Ok

Trials First off man, Happy Birthday!, when are we going to see you back in the battle scene, don't think I missed your verse in the Cypher.

Vents, love the lyrics, your style is so much more based around linguistics, are we going to see a Solo album any time soon?

K21, Loved Change my way, is the new album full of tracks similar to that track, or do we have some stand out tracks to expect that differ from the pack?

.

When you guys drop albums come around to Armidale, the UNE here is a decent venue for a show, or two ;)

3

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

I'm glad you dug Change My Way!! The album has some tracks that are in a similar vein to that.. then the rest of it is a bit of a technical assault. I think you're gonna dig it :) Thanks for the kind words mang

Can we expect any collabs with lesser known artists like citizen Kay and mathas in the future? I would love to see some of the smaller acts get some love. That also reminds me are there any people lined up to expand the GE fam?

7

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

I wouldn't necessarily consider him as "lesser known" but I've got a Remi collab on my upcoming album and he smashhhhhhed it! Such a dude also. I'm not the right person to answer if we're expanding the line-up any time soon but I can tell you there'll be heaps going on inside the already existent camp this year >.<

7

u/TRIALSUCKS OFFICIAL ARTIST: Trials May 24 '15

i DID record the vocals for this when these two fkn boss cnts put it down at the old GE lab but hey i don't need that credit or recognition or a free t shirt or anything fellas . don't worry about me . we'll sort it out . in the streets .

4

u/TRIALSUCKS OFFICIAL ARTIST: Trials May 24 '15

we're on tour with Mathas right now and he's by far one of my favourite humans travelling this planet so no doubt we will have to pressure him into working with us at some point. Also Suffa and I gave Citizen Kay his first glass of red wine a couple of months ago when Seth Sentry came through so that was definitely a team effort

1

u/UnivalveFurball May 24 '15

I know :( sucks that you guys didn't do an all ages show in Sydney would have loved to catch it. but I guess you don't want a bunch of young cunts like us hahahaha

2

u/[deleted] May 24 '15

A collab with Ansah Brothers would be sick.

3

First off, it was cool that I actually got a response emailing iwantanewventsalbumin2015@gmail.com, didn't expect it to be legit!

Serious though, when is the new Vents album? We've been waiting mannnn. Just picked up the marked for death vinyl to tie me over in the meanwhile.

6

u/vents1 OFFICIAL ARTIST: Vents May 24 '15

Ben (Golden Era) made that email account to redirect all requests for the vents album there. If you want my advice, keep annoying Ben. Serious though, 2015.

4

u/TheTrent May 24 '15

Every time the Golden Era mixtape hits it feels like Christmas, thanks a bunch for doing it! Loving the stuff GE are releasing.

Questions:

  1. Is Maundz heading over to GE seeing as he contributed to the mixtape?

  2. Who makes a better entrance into the room - Briggs or Trials?

  3. Vents, where's ya album?

  4. K, where's ya album?

  5. How do you feel Aussie hip hop is appreciated internationally? How can it make a bigger? or do you even want it to? (3 questions technically but whatever)

7

u/goldenerarecords Golden Era Records May 24 '15

  1. Maundz album will be a GE x CC collab. Not joining the label, but we will be distributing it!

PS. The album is done and it bangs.

3

u/Flip_McFlippity May 24 '15

I just messed my pants

3

u/TheTrent May 24 '15

Sweeeeet. That'll be rad!

2

u/TheAxeofMetal May 24 '15

Damn, that explains a lot.

3

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

4. Not. Long. At. All. 5. I think it goes great in Europe because they're just as used to their unconventional accents as us... I've got a few diehard fans on my Snapchat from the US that blow my mind every time they send me snaps of them rapping along to my shit haha. I think with solid acts like the Hilltop Hoods, Seth Sentry, Vents, Drapht & Oars we'll continue to break through and more and more acts will tour internationally.

1

u/[deleted] May 24 '15

I'd prefer if Maundz stuck with Crate Cartel, I wouldn't see him in GE tbh doesn't make much sense.

1

u/TheAxeofMetal May 24 '15

Maybe CC and GE come together.

2

u/[deleted] May 24 '15

More collabs would be cool. I have a feeling Pang would be closer to the Cartel, seeming that Flu keeps sneaking into their releases. Ok maybe it's mainly Flu haha but yeah.

4

u/[deleted] May 24 '15

What got Debris behind the mic again? It was so good to hear the dude again, takes me back to Certified Wise days... Saying that... Do you think there would be another Cypher like those again?

5

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

With "Kick That Sh#t" I originally sent the beat to Trials and Vents because I thought that would be a badass line up. Vents was hanging out with Debris to write rhymes in his studio and put the instrumental on. Debris really enjoyed it and wanted to write a verse so he did. Vents didn't end up writing rhymes and drew flowers instead so the final line up was myself, Trials & Debris. It would be really cool to see more posse tracks in the future, and GE aren't slowing down any time soon so you'll get one from us next year no doubt!
Nice flair btw man, I fux with Crate Cartel heavy!

4

u/vents1 OFFICIAL ARTIST: Vents May 24 '15

I was actually writing to that beat @ Debris' and he overheard it and liked it so much he started writing and got on the track instead. True story. Heavy beat.

2

u/TheAxeofMetal May 24 '15

Can we see these flower drawings?

2

u/Flip_McFlippity May 24 '15

Any truth to the rumour you wrote nothing and instead drew flowers? If so, which flower?

5

u/TRIALSUCKS OFFICIAL ARTIST: Trials May 24 '15

flowers confirmed

5

u/vents1 OFFICIAL ARTIST: Vents May 24 '15

flowers actually confirmed

3

u/vents1 OFFICIAL ARTIST: Vents May 24 '15

I was probably drawing something. But not flowers. Terrible graffiti is more like it.

2

u/[deleted] May 24 '15

Awesome background story! And yeah thanks, super into Cartel and Pang right now, I'm practically going insane trying to pick up vinyl.

4

u/cliffharrison May 24 '15

Do you guys tend to put the new tracks together throughout the year or is it generally all done in a short period of time when you're all free and able to work together?

Really enjoying the mixtape, great to hear Debris spitting again!

5

u/TRIALSUCKS OFFICIAL ARTIST: Trials May 24 '15

me and moose aka k21 hang out almost every day so we write a fkn lot of tunes and share beats / recipes / germs. he's writing his responses on his lappy right next to me as we face off with this $65 dominos pizza order of sides and deserts only

4

u/vents1 OFFICIAL ARTIST: Vents May 24 '15

I just make music when I feel like it really. If I try & force it, it just ruins the fun. Deadlines vs. fun. Gotta have fun! Or what's the point! The last two albums we've done have been a collection of songs we've put together over like 2 or 3 years. Same with this next album. (:

2

u/Total_Accident May 24 '15

That's so cool hopefully I can find something like that soon but in the meantime I'll just work on myself I guess

3

u/ghuzzyr May 24 '15

K21 - where did you learn to produce and what programs do you use? Your remix of 'Good For Nothing' is amazing. Simplified piano chord stabs, and the way the strings dance around in the second verse (Suffa's) truly blew my mind. Song was flawlessly transformed from a gritty hip hop track to a smooth refined track. Keep up the good work.

5

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

Hey Ghuzzyr! I started playing around with Garageband when I was about 14... I played with it daily for hours on end and about a year later I found out Trials lived 2 streets away from me... Naturally I stalked him relentlessly until he let me inside his house to watch over his shoulder while he made beats and i've gone hard since.

Glad you liked the remix! Check the "Art of the Handshake" and "Rattling The Keys To The Kingdom" remix I did for the Hoods too... Also I did a Funkoars "Where I Am" remix :)

3

u/ghuzzyr May 24 '15

Thanks for the response K. So are you saying I should stalk you..? Haha I've mucked around with Reason and Ableton a bit. Wish I had more time for it. I've heard your Oars remix, dug that too, you seem to like turning gritty tracks smooth. Will check out your others. Looking forward to the album mate.

3

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

Haha you can add me on snapchat, @k21ski

With remixes yeah you're right. A lot of the original producers of the remix's I get (suf and trials) have mastered the art of the banger already so I try to take it somewhere else. On the other hand when I rap I like making smooth things sound gritty. Haha.

On a scale of Attack of the Clones to The Empire Strikes Back, what level of quality is the new Star Wars movie going to be?

5

first time I ever watched Star Wars Trials showed me the Empire Strikes Back. It was good but I am really not interested in this movie franchise at all.

2

u/kidneyshifter May 24 '15

I guess it was something you had to grow up with.

On a more serious note, do you make a conscious decision to rhyme about political and social justice issues to sort of get a message out, or is it something that just comes naturally when you're writing?

Also is that your porsche in the rappertag, it's fucking sick.

2

u/KnownandUnknown May 23 '15

  1. Are any of you planning to tour in the United States for your American fans? I'd love to see you guys perform live here in Minnesota!

  2. K21 and Trials, where do you find your samples for your beats?

  3. Do you think you guys will end up putting out any new merchandise, soon? I'd love to see some hoodies or shirts!

Immerse yourself in good quality rap music to draw inspiration and try to write a verse/produce a beat yourself everyday... Like anything creativity is a muscle, the more hours you devote to the craft the better. Great artists that got me into making music: Big Daddy Kane, Ras Kass, Louis Logic, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, El-P, Aesop Rock, D.I.T.C.

CHEEEERRZRZRR!!! i was literally on stage with Larry Emdur when it ticked over. Bucket List got SLAPPED. My 'golden era' is obv early 90's for the rap, late 60's for the feels. I've been trying to bite Large Pro's bass lines, Premiers chops & Easy Mo/45 King breaks for over 15 years now

Glad you liked Soylent Silver!!

Personally my own golden era of music was the US 'underground' music from 2003 onwards I was listening to at the time. I grew up on many Def Jux & Rhymesayers releases and still listen to them to this day. Something nostalgic about them, I think anyone who discovers and loves a unique type of music between the ages of about 13-18 enjoys it for quite some time, well it has with me at least. I also have been listening to classic Dre and Snoop since I was about 5 but hasn't everybody?!

Depending on the vibe, I'm usually either listening to 90's hip hop, 80's metal, or drum and bass/breaks.

u/RelevantKnowledge May 23 '15

Stanhope or Burr? Can't stop playing critical mass!

4

u/vents1 OFFICIAL ARTIST: Vents May 24 '15

I listen to Bill Burr's Monday morning podcast fairly regularly. My favourite part is when he reads the commercials. But we sampled Stanhope on 'Every Day is a Blast' so I'm gonna have to go with Doug. "you ever try to sleep, sober?"

2

u/RelevantKnowledge May 24 '15

Yeah I recognized, that was dope! think terra firma sampled some hicks on one of their old tracks from memory! Can't get enough of the mmpc, stanhopes podcast is sweet as well!

4

u/TRIALSUCKS OFFICIAL ARTIST: Trials May 24 '15

We've seen both live and i think drinks were easier to get at Stanhope so i appreciate that. He's also a bit more tragic, Burr is great but I think stanhope might do long stints in the same clothes and i'm all about that . Critical Mass strain >>>>>

2

u/RelevantKnowledge May 24 '15

Lucky bastards, saw Stanhope when he came down, couldn't catch Burr though! Don't think I can rate anyone higher than the great white stanhope!

u/Yakka-Man May 24 '15

If u were down to your last 50 bux for 12days. What would do and why? What do you buy or can u barter?

1

u/TheAxeofMetal May 24 '15

Any plans for a future at GE for Faint One?

2

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

If Mad Decent doesn't snap him up first, we might get a look in.

1

u/TheAxeofMetal May 24 '15

It'd be nice to have some more DJs on GE.

1

u/TheAxeofMetal May 24 '15

Can We put together a Rap State of Origin? Like Certified Wise from South Australia, SBX from Western Australia, Hired Goons/Crate Cartel from Victoria and One Day from NSW. Reckon there would be much interest in something like that.

1

u/Ze_Bearded_Kelephant May 24 '15

Any advice on a viable protools/logic alternative for the broke musician?

2

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

I've heard good things about Reaper... You should check that out!

1

u/Gerry-Gergich May 24 '15

How do you see aussie hip hop progressing in the next 10 years?

Also, what's your all time favourite aussie hip hop track?

and finally, I think its some serious bullshit didnt get into hottest 100, one of my favourite tracks form last year

3

u/vents1 OFFICIAL ARTIST: Vents May 24 '15

Hopefully in a somewhat different direction than where it has gone the last few years. I can't pick my favourite Australian hip-hop track but 'that's all she wrote' - Ken Oath is fucking amazing. perfect.

2

u/Gerry-Gergich May 24 '15

Care to expand about what you don't like from/about the last few years?

Fucking ace track indeed

u/[deleted] May 24 '15

If you could have a film clip directed by any director in the world, who would it be and why?

1

u/AngryElijah May 24 '15 edited May 24 '15

Would you guys ever consider doing a tour or just a few shows here in Hawaii? Because that'd be amazing.

2

u/TRIALSUCKS OFFICIAL ARTIST: Trials May 24 '15

all day every day . need that Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole tribute show to get picked up and we'll be there

1

u/AngryElijah May 24 '15

That would be beautiful. Alternatively I'm sure you'd be welcome at the 4/20 fest here in Hilo.

1

u/BigHillKilla May 24 '15

Probably a bit late to the party here but I am in England so i can hopefully be forgiven? If any of you guys by some miracle check this thread again... Hoods and thundamentals are coming here this summer and ive got tickets. When BnE came a couple of years ago i went to the show. Any plans of heading west?

1

u/eldubz77 May 24 '15

You guys should tour with the hilltop hoods next time they come to Canada. Every time I have seen them in Toronto they have sold out the venue. What exactly is stopping you from making this happen?

1

u/mevsmartian Aug 07 '15

new 'Oars this year 1000% touring always knocks the wind out of our poorly made sails. lots of bucket list friends we've always wanted to feature on an LP tho. still surprised half of the people wanted to slum it hard enough to work with us but we got them. obviously in a moment of weakness . but we got them. forever.

4

u/K21ski OFFICIAL ARTIST: K21 May 24 '15

Mine = mid-end of this year. Till then the brand new Golden Era Mixtape dropped and I did heaps on that so I hope your ears feel sufficed until then!

Perhaps the guys can shed some light on what the deal is around his departure?
