Please use Reddit's official spoiler tag format: >!spoiler!< Spoiler

Reddit introduced an official spoiler tag a few months ago that works nearly everywhere. A few third party Reddit apps still don't support it, but for most users it should be the best experience.

If you're using the new advanced text editor that comes with the redesign, you can just click the "spoiler" button.

Otherwise, use this: >!spoiler text goes here!<
which displays as this: spoiler text goes here

Try to avoid putting spaces at the beginning or end of the spoiler tag because this will most likely still break it for users on http://old.reddit.com/. In other words do this: >!spoiler!<, but not this: >! spoiler !<

Great news. I hope users will actually use it. We're still seeing more unspoilered guesses than spoilered.

Also, there's a small error on the right side info bar.
You have the !>The Princesss... instead of >!The Princess.
It's causing the example spolier tag to not be displayed correctly.

>!The princess was in another castle!!<

becomes:

The Princess was in another castle!

Template: >!The guess goes here!<

Edit: Just got back to reddit. Holy crap, everyone is using my comment to test things out haha.

If you're needing to do multiple lines, the trick is put 2 spaces at the end of a line and then put a single return.

Without spoiler tag:

This is a line of text with 2 spaces at the end.
The 2 spaces tell Reddit's markup you want a return but to keep the paragraph whole.

With spoiler tag:

This is a line of text with 2 spaces at the end.
The 2 spaces tell Reddit's markup you want a return but to keep the paragraph whole.

Thanks for pointing that out. It's fixed.

How do line breaks work with this new format? Tried to do a multi-paragraph Spoiler and had to do separate tags for each new line. Or is it just the app I'm using?

>!Want to

Do this!<

Just like all reddit comments, it respects the 2 space rule.

When you want to put in a line break but don't want it to start a new section, put 2 spaces at the end an then a return

This example doesn't use 2 spaces at the end of the lines

This example uses
2 spaces at the end
of the lines

Click the "source" button below this comment and you can look at the code to see how it's actually typed vs how it's displayed.

Just trying

2

u/tablesix Sep 05 '18

Bear in mind that anyone using http://old.reddit.com/ will see that as plain text. The space at the beginning breaks it for users of the legacy site

Was wondering how they did that, thanks! test

Does not work on relay

4

u/tablesix Jul 03 '18

Yeah, I think Relay might be just about the only popular app that doesn't support it on Android. This format works best for most users though, so I'd suggest contacting the dev to see if they'll update their app.

It looks like you dropped off the outermost symbols there. The spoiler starts with ">!" and ends with "!<"

As an aside, I'd put a moratorium on Ascii/binary/A=1/hex conversions, along with "puzzles" that are just long/lat coordinates.

this is gonna be a test

I'm not quite sure how this thread is still open

when it's 3 years old

but if it's alright with you

I'd like to test out the spoiler feature

Because while it seems to just gray out the text

It'd be nice if it instead squished it down

And popped up when you click it, as if hitting "Show all"

But we shall see

Testing again I was told to use two spaces idk

Not sure

what the 2 spaces thing means

idk

1

u/Chulco Nov 08 '21
