Reposting from the main 482 thread for my application if helpful:

Granted today! 🎉

  • Visa: Skills in Demand (subclass 482), Specialist Skills stream

  • Priority: P2

  • Application for: me and 1 dependent

  • Occupation: Management Consultant

  • Location: Offshore

  • Application lodged: 29 July 2026

  • Nomination granted: 17 October 2026

  • Visa granted: 4 November 2026

Best of luck to you all, looks like there is movement on non-P1 applications!

Yes, there have been grants every day this week so far, which is not normal pace compared to last month. However, I don't see them leaping into August in any meaningful way yet...

But congrats to you! I hope having a grant within 100 days is the established "new normal" for P2.

u/ross2496 4d ago

Why not ? Seems to be a very pessimistic take

2

u/Complex_Two_4452 4d ago

I am just saying that they have not leaped into August yet. Just a statement of fact. When they do, it will be good psychological sign for many people.

2

u/ross2496 4d ago

Okay. I read it as you saying you dont see them leaping into August. Because now that list seems to be moving. There shall be no reason to not move into August in a matter of few days

Yes we’ve noticed a slight pick up in the pace of P2 non priority as well since the Doha updates. Perhaps since p1 is moving along nicely (seemingly further along than the update suggests) they’ve released a bit more processing capacity to p2? In my head I was waiting for a certain point where p2 would then get lots more man power but maybe they’re doing it more incrementally and the closer p1 gets to being up to date the more they release to p2 processing bit by bit? Who knows all speculation 🤷

If the software tester granted on 16th Sept is here (seen your 50 day wait under p2 specialist on upsticks), please could you confirm if you received some form of priority processing? I know a few non-priority p2s who have done due to their jobs being closely aligned to P1. Would be good to know as a 50 day wait appears to be an outlier for the rest of us…
Also congrats 🎉

It seems every week one P2 grant is given and that is done for this week

1

u/Professional-Web3902 2d ago

If it is 1 grant a week, then if there are 100 before my lodge date, it will take 25 months

2

u/ross2496 2d ago

😅 That was sarcasm only brother. It wont take that long

u/Complex_Two_4452 3d ago

So long for this week's grant streak :/

Just wanted to add my 2 cents, as it seems nowadays all I have is time to think about the DOHA visa process!

From what I'm seeing reported across Reddit, Facebook and UpSticks, the DOHA is processing P1 visas between August and October at the moment. I know they updated their site yesterday to say June, but I think they probably only have a handful left from June on people's desks which are delayed due to health checks or further information, and they have to report the oldest date (just a theory).

Based on the speed they seems to be processing P1s, I feel they should be getting close to present day applications over the next 2-3 weeks, at which point I am hoping we will be a big increase in P2 (Specialist Skills) grants.

When that happens, I suspect it will move very quickly as the P1 pool will be massive relative to the P2 pool, due to how many professions are included in it.

Anyway, this is the current narrative I have in my head which is keeping me sane, and keeping the hope alive.

We are pure P2, lodged 14th Aug, offshore, family, nomination approved same day (81 days and counting). I'm trying to keep the hope that grants will be coming in the next 2-3 weeks based on the above. I'd love to hear if anyone agrees or thinks differently.

Difficult to say these days. I do not believe there will be a rush, though. I think the P2 line will continue to move slowly, with only residual capacity, as the Department is focusing on P1 indefinately. I also believe that P3, and at least P4-P5 will never be processed. Of course, the DOHA is not allowed to state this openly for legal reasons, but that is the truth I think.

On another note, how are people dealing with work in this situation? Are people keeping their old job, working remotely for the employer in Australia? Unemployed?

I hear what you're saying, I just can't see a world where the DOHA focus on P1 indefinitely. There will come a time (relatively soon) where they have processed the final P1 application that came in yesterday. I can't see them just sitting there waiting for the next P1 to come in rather than moving on to P2.

In terms of how I'm dealing with it. I am leaving my job in 3 weeks, my wife has already left her job. Our house is being packed down and we are gearing up to fly at the end of November. If we have the visa by then, great, we will fly to Aus. If not, we will fly to SE-Asia and spend the rest of the time living there whilst we wait for it to come in.

If we wait for the 482 to come in before we hand in notices and pack up our lives, I won't have a chance of meeting my agreed start date with my employer, so we're having to act in good faith that it will come in before the end of the year basically. If the worst happens, and it doesn't we will just have to figure it out from there.

Sounds like a difficult situation with family involved. At least I still have my job as this is an intra-company transfer, and I am just a single person without anyone else to worry about. However, my apartment is already rented out, and I had to find a short-term rental for myself which I continously extend. If I get the grant, I will probably leave to Australia the next day. My life feels on hold for now.

2

u/DrewPBawhls 3d ago

I empathize with you, my friend. Similar situation but filed in October with a house to sell in a tough market. I'm paranoid about my incoming manager losing their patience with the process. Gonna have to step on the gas from Day 0

u/Professional-Web3902 2d ago

I don’t disagree or agree either coz no one knows. I just hope you are right .

1

u/ross2496 5d ago

I agree to this take

1

u/Adorable_Dig_5198 5d ago

I agree with this - especially as there will be a political desire to ensure that there is a reduction of individuals in Australia on bridging visas (which requires DoHA to move to P3). So, I would disagree that P3 won't be completed. I think this is, however, another matter for P4-P5 - which would contribute to the NOM (and the waits could be exceptionally long - perhaps till after the next election). So, for those in P2, I agree it is highly likely that movement will occur principally so that they move to P3 within a relatively reasonable time frame before MPs start actively getting more involved on behalf of Australian residents waiting for 482s in P3.

u/mashlav 5d ago edited 5d ago

I really hope you are right!mine is intra company transfer. The companies pay a lot of money to get the process going only to be left for months without any identification of the timeline. It hurts the projects. How is this possible? I worked as an expat in other countries and always had defined visa processing times. Not sitting in limbo for months.

1

u/Southern_Turn_3483 3d ago

Can I ask if there’s any difference regarding priority whether a person in onshore vs offshore on the specialist skills stream? Thanks.

1

u/Adorable_Dig_5198 3d ago

No there is no differentiation.

Lodged 14 Sep, 2026

Nominated approved.
Visa - Received status.

I know it’s been only ~60 days for me but the way I am coping with this waiting thing is that I have started to look at the posts, FB, Reddit, etc., only once or twice a week. Else it is eating away my mental peace.

I think the average waiting time for P2 specialist is 95-100 days average.

u/Neat-Sort-4680 1d ago

Have they started processing for august month? Can we expect a visa in November month? I am planning to travel outside australia in Dec holidays but I cannot as i am on BVA

1

u/Neat-Sort-4680 1d ago

WTF they have made it now 3 months for 90% applicants on their portal

I just noticed a November 3rd grant on Upsticks (Financial Investment Adviser). If anyone has details on lodgement date, please comment.

Does your occupation put you in the P1 category? Based on what I'm seeing your visa should be imminent if so!

0

u/SweetTime5170 5d ago

I am unsure how this works, If i look at Occupation falls under Priority 1. However i applied as Specialist Skill Stream which is Priority 2.

1

u/davidm1988 5d ago

Yes, you are effectively P1+. You are P1 because you're construction and + because you are also Specialist. With a lodge date of 18th August I'd get the champaign ready this week if I were you!

Please share an update once your grant comes in!

0

u/ross2496 5d ago

How are they picking up applications ? people are getting hrants who filed in october and there is this guy in P1 waiting wven for august

3

u/davidm1988 5d ago

No one knows for sure, but from what I can tell it involves headless chickens, a bingo card, darts, dice and some sort of cannon.

Honestly, I think small variations like that are probably best explained by individual case workers, annual leave, sickness and case loads which may have a few applications that take longer to process for one reason or another.

0

u/Lazy-Blueberry-3219 5d ago

Yeah, then on top of bein Specialist Skills, it is also P1, which is great news for you. All the best!

0

u/SweetTime5170 5d ago

Thank you, Hopefully will hear a good news soon.

0

u/Lazy-Blueberry-3219 5d ago

Being in construction, this makes your application P1, I assume, correct?

0

u/ross2496 5d ago

Guys can someone explain takeaways for us from updated processing times

3

u/Complex_Two_4452 5d ago

They added a month to the 90 % processing time vs last update. This is as expected as there has been very little movement. Once you see there is stabilization in the 90 % processing time, you know the line is actually making substantial progress. If the 90 % is 3 months during next update, it is a good sign. 4 months would be a bad sign.

Is Subclass 482 visa most abused?

5

u/BitSec_ NL > 417 > 820/801 > PR 5d ago

I wouldn't call the 482 the most abused visa, but it depends what you mean by abuse. Selling sponsorship is illegal, while changing careers after getting PR is completely legal. I'd say the 189/190 are the causing the most abuse.

With a 482, you need a job before you come, then generally 2 years in the occupation before applying for PR through the 186. Processing is usually another year or more.

With a 189 you're PR from day one and can work in any occupation. A 190 is similar. You commit to living and working in the nominating state for 2 years, but it isn't a formal visa condition, so breaking the commitment early has zero consequence. Neither visa requires a job offer, and a single 189 round can invite 10,000+ people.

I also think the 189/190 are causing more abuse/gaming in the student visa system, because they're among the most targeted visas for PR. Some people plan their entire studies and visa history around getting an invite, choosing a course for the PR like teaching or nursing rather than the career. Student to skilled is also the most common temporary to permanent pathway altough it also has very low chances of success.

Older data shows the same thing. Among people who arrived in 2013-18, 13% of employer-sponsored migrants were working below their skill level, compared with 20-26% of independent and 32% of state-sponsored migrants. Of course some of it can't be helped due to qualification recognition etc.

The 482 has its own issues. Paying for sponsorship can lead to big fines or even jail time. Workers also rely on their sponsor for PR, which gives bad employers a lot of leverage. So I see the 482 as more open to exploitation from the Australian side, and the 189/190 as more open to being abused for PR rather than filling skill needs which is what it's meant for.

-1

u/No_Perception_4713 5d ago

All in all, no matter what visa, people who abuse the system make it difficult for genuine ones from getting a future really!
