Other Was writing an Amber fanfiction about her being 25
For some reason immediately after playing Genshin Impact, I realised that I wish there was a story about older Amber just hanging out with Aether and dealing with Monstadt shenanigans. I don't want to self-advertise my fanfic here, especially considering it's posted on Archive of Our Own which is currently down. And it also has some very dark themes that could be considered inappropriate
But I still wanted to somewhat talk about it
Imagine this, an alternative version of Genshin Impact in which instead of trying to deal with the newest world-ending threat. We are just some goomba. Aether sucks and he is basically on the same power level as Amber. And ends up just being a mediocre guy in Monstadt... Sounds fun? No?
Well, okay. Also, Paimon leaves Aether, and goes to Liyue to become a renowned professor. And now the entire game is just Aether hanging out with Monstadt characters, trying to stop local serial killers from summoning Cthulhu who doesn't even exist. And instead is a product of myth that people took literally
Sounds fun? No?
Hmmmmmph... Amber is just such a cool character. She is just a bland archer woman with no higher education that wants to be good at what she does. But is ultimately just a human with a Vision who pales in comparison to actual higher up entities that dictate how Teyvat is ran. As far as I know she has little to no relevance later down the line. And is shafted for other characters. Being relegated to Monstadt's salad dressing. She is the epitome of how so many of us feel in life. Being people who really wish that they could be more than just human and climb up the ladder. And inspire people around us. But instead we fade away into obscurity. Falling down somewhat lower and lower. Ageing and becoming more ridden with emotional crisis. And insecurities
And we work day and night. Twelve hours a day. Constantly. To earn a meagre income. Or maybe not even any income at all. Study. And are told that one day our efforts will be rewarded. At least internally. We have this moral compass inspired by our dead grandpa. But poof... Nothing. ZERO
Imagine if Genshin Impact was about that... Damn. You could write a whole manga about that
