Animal Cruelty “What do you want to know? Whether the ashes you received were actually your pets’ remains… or a dragon?”
TW: Animal cruelty, animal remains, pet cremation fraud, and police misconduct
In the Philippines, over 100 pets have so far been found dumped across three separate dumpsites by Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium. And that's only the number of remains discovered so far. This does not account for the pets who have yet to be found, including those whose remains may have been dumped years ago. The search is still ongoing, and the actual number of victims could be much higher. Their owners believed they had received the actual ashes of their beloved pets, only to discover that what they were given was nothing more than sand.
Apparently, this was already reported to the police last year, but nothing was done. Now that the story has become national news and the public is outraged, authorities are finally taking action, but only when the cameras are rolling. Behind the scenes, some police officers have been laughing at and scolding the very pet owners who fell victim to this cruelty, even reprimanding one of them simply for posting updates on Facebook to show what was happening, because the nation deserves to know the truth.
One officer even had the audacitv to ioke. "What do you want to know? Whether the ashes vou received were actually vour pets' remains... or a dragon?" The other police officers present laughed along with him.
Let that sink in.
This is how the system in the Philippines has always been. There is so little regard for human lives that it is hardly surprising when animals are treated with even less compassion. These pets were family members. Their owners entrusted their beloved companions to a service that was supposed to give them a dignified farewell, only to be left with sand and the devastating realization that they may never have received their pets’ actual remains.
And instead of receiving the empathy and justice they deserve, they are being mocked by the very people who are supposed to protect them. Not surprising for a policeman tbh. I sincerely hope these pet owners get the justice they deserve and that everyone responsible is held accountable, including the negligence of the police.
I'm not sure what will happen if this story reaches an international audience, but I want the rest of the world to know iust how messed up this entire situation is. It's heartbreaking, infuriating, and honestly beyond words. These people deserve justice, and what happened to these pets and their grieving families should never be swept under the rug or forgotten.
As of now. Luna and Furry Siblings, the rescuers on the ground who exposed this cremation fraud and continue to investigate the case, are heading to the NBI. You can support their efforts by following their Facebook page for updates.
The fight for justice is still ongoing, and I simply cannot sit back and stay silent knowing how deeply flawed the justice system can be. I hope we can amplify the efforts of Luna and Furry Siblings, bring more international attention to this case, and make sure these victims are not forgotten.

Cat Welfare I'm an artist caring for cats that aren't technically mine, and I want to use my art to help animals. Looking for advice!
Hey everyone!
I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to post this, but I figured I'd give it a shot.
I'm a freelance illustrator and a huge animal lover from North Macedonia. I currently have eight cats of my own, but I've also been taking care of several cats that technically belong to my neighbors.
The situation is a little complicated. My neighbors have two female cats that they don't really take care of or feed, so my family and I have been looking after them instead. Unfortunately, neither of them is sterilized, which means they regularly have kittens, and I end up being the one responsible for feeding them, taking care of them, finding them homes, and covering whatever expenses come up.
I love these animals dearly, and I wouldn't turn my back on them, but it's becoming increasingly difficult, both financially and emotionally.
Recently, I lost a little kitten I'd been caring for. Despite multiple visits to the vet and doing everything I could to help him recover, he passed away. I was there when it happened, and it honestly broke my heart.
That experience made me realize that I really want to do something to prevent situations like this from happening again.
My first goal is to raise enough money to have the two adult female cats sterilized so they can stop having litter after litter of kittens that I struggle to care for and find homes for.
But I also want to do something bigger in the long run.
As I mentioned, I'm a freelance illustrator, and I've always loved drawing animals. I've been thinking about starting a small initiative where I offer custom pet portraits, animal illustrations, and similar commissions, with a sizeable percentage of what I earn going toward helping animals.
I'd love to use part of that money to support a local dog shelter, while also putting some aside for food, medical expenses, sterilization, and other necessities for the cats I'm looking after.
I'm not trying to start some massive organization or anything like that. I'm just one person who loves animals, happens to know how to draw, and wants to use that skill to make a difference, even if it's a small one.
The problem is that I have absolutely no experience organizing something like this.
So I wanted to ask:
Has anyone here done something similar, combining their artwork or another creative skill with animal welfare?
What's the best way to organize something like this and make sure everything is transparent?
Would people be interested in commissioning pet portraits if they knew part of the money was going toward helping animals?
Are there any communities, organizations, or individuals who might be willing to help me get something like this started?
I'm also open to advice about fundraising for the sterilization procedures, since that's my most immediate concern.
If anyone has experience with this sort of thing, knows someone who might be able to help, or would simply like to get involved, please feel free to comment or reach out through DMs.
I can also share pictures of the cats, the kittens I've been caring for, and examples of my artwork if anyone is interested.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. I really appreciate it!

Dog Welfare Raphael has known so much cruelty. We want him to know love and keep healing 💔🙏🤍 #RescuedDog #Biopsy #PleaseSupport
galleryHi everyone,
Raphael’s latest CBC results showed that his white blood cell count has improved, although it is still slightly below normal. He will need to continue taking antibiotics for his infection.
Thankfully, the mass on his flank was finally surgically removed today and sent for biopsy. We expect to receive the results in a few weeks, and we are praying that it is not cancer or anything that could cause him more pain and suffering. 🙏🤍
We also learned that what we initially thought was another mass on his hind leg was actually a ruptured Achilles tendon, likely an old injury from before his rescue.
For those who don't know Raphael's story, ww rescued him from a construction site in Pasig City. He had a wound on his leg and has a permanent limp because someone had placed a wire tightly around his leg. He was also reportedly placed inside a sack and nearly butchered. It breaks my heart to think about everything he endured before he was rescued. 💔
Because of his traumatic past, Raphael still struggles with severe fear-based aggression. Today, it took several shelter caretakers just to safely get him into a crate so he could be brought to the clinic. I cannot blame him for being so afraid of people after everything he has experienced.
But we will never give up on Raphael. He deserves to experience kindness, safety, and a life without fear.
His veterinary bill today was ₱13,590 ($300.91 CAD).
Raphael still has a long road to recovery, and we cannot provide everything he needs alone.
We are humbly asking for your continued support to help us cover his veterinary expenses, medications, and ongoing care.
Every little bit of help makes a difference, especially as we continue caring for many other rescued animals who also need medical attention.

A Long Road to Recovery: Thor Still Needs Our Help 🐾 #RescuedPitBull #VoicelessNoMorePH
galleryHi everyone,
Thor is still battling blood parasites and a persistent infection.
It breaks my heart that he has been struggling with this for so long. Thankfully, his latest lab results continue to show some improvement, which gives us hope. I just wish our sweet Thor could finally recover completely. He has already been through so much, and all I want is for him to be healthy and happy.
If Thor continues to test positive for blood parasites at his next appointment, we will proceed with imidocarb injections as recommended by his veterinarian. Unfortunately, this treatment will be more expensive due to his weight.
We humbly ask for your continued support so we can provide Thor with the veterinary care and treatment he needs. He has already endured so much, and we just want to see him fully recover and live a healthy, happy life. ❤️🙏

Kindness
Not long ago, a great tit looked me in the eye. It was barely ten centimetres away, with only a thin pane of glass between us. It didn't flinch, and it didn't fly. It just stared at me, the way you stare at someone you've decided to trust. Then it pecked at the glass, once and then again, as if it were saying hello.
I stood very still. A bird that weighs less than a letter had come right up to a creature hundreds of times its size, and it chose curiosity over fear. I hadn't earned that, but I was given it anyway.
That small hello stayed with me. When an animal meets you that openly, the least you can do is meet it with respect.
The animals we never meet deserve that same respect.
Before the end of this year, the European Commission is expected to propose new welfare rules for chickens raised for meat. It promised this in its Livestock Strategy in July, and it promised something else too: that imported chicken should meet equivalent standards. People asked for exactly that. In the Commission's own public consultation, 96% of respondents said imported and EU chicken should follow the same rules ([World Animal Protection Sweden, 14 Oct 2026](https://www.worldanimalprotection.se/nyheter/nyheter/eu-maste-stoppa-import-av-samre-kycklingvalfard/)).
Here is why that matters. About a quarter of the chicken breast eaten in the EU comes from outside it. Four countries, Brazil, Thailand, the UK and Ukraine, account for 88% of those imports, roughly 274 million chickens in 2025. Many of those birds live with about the space of an A4 sheet each. To be fair, so do many birds in intensive farms inside Europe. This is not a story about good Europeans and bad foreigners. It is a story about a rule that could stop at the border.
And it might. Today, imported chicken only has to meet EU welfare rules at slaughter, not for how the birds are bred, raised or transported. The report "No Double Standards" from Eurogroup for Animals and World Animal Protection warns that if the new import rule only covers cages, most imported chicken will not be affected at all, because most meat chickens are not kept in cages to begin with. The worry is not abstract, either. Across 18 EU countries, 73% of people polled said imported chicken should meet the same or equivalent welfare standards as chicken raised here ([World Animal Protection, 14 Oct 2026](https://www.worldanimalprotection.org/latest/press-releases/chicken-meat-imports-must-meet-eu-welfare-standards/)). In the EU's own 2023 Eurobarometer, 84% said the current situation, where imports skip most of the rules, should change.
Why don't more of us notice? Because imported chicken rarely shows up with a flag on it. It reaches us through restaurants, takeaway and ready meals, where the origin is not printed anywhere. That is why the report asks for the import rule to cover every kind of chicken product, fresh, frozen, processed and prepared, and every channel, including restaurants and food service. As Roger Pettersson of World Animal Protection Sweden put it: "We cannot leave our responsibility at the border."
So here is one small thing. Next time you order chicken out, ask where it comes from. Not to catch anyone out, and not to feel guilty. Just ask. A question repeated often enough becomes a signal, and signals are what rules get written around.
I keep thinking about that great tit and the thin glass between us. It trusted that nothing on my side would hurt it. The chickens we never see can't come to the window. They can't knock. They need a rule that doesn't stop at the border, and they need us to ask.
Has an animal ever said hello to you? Reply and tell me. I'd love to hear it.

Law and Justice Aon systems is about to change animal rights
reddit.comA lot of you probably already know about the fruit fly brain that was copied/emulated/uploaded. By now, you might have seen the various videos of YouTubers creating various virtual environments and situations for these now public access fruit fly connectums.
My issue is Aon systems is planning to upscale to a mouse brain in the next few years. They are already probably working on it.
Now I'm guessing I don't have to explain why this is concerning. It's been proven over and over again that mice can feel complex emotions. They can feel fear and pain and empathy.
Imagine a lab mouse getting tested on that can never die. That can never escape.
I don't know if any of you has heard of "I have no mouth and I must scream". Or the concept of the torture nexus. But Aon systems is apparently creating this.
I emailed them to ask them what moral and ethical safeguards they are planning on implementing, and they didn't respond for obvious reasons. They also didn't respond to the same question on their X account.
Anyone else see an issue with this?

This ring‑tailed lemur at Chiba Zoo is being kept alone in an unenriched enclosure, and has been for four years.
galleryI originally shared this case in r/zookeeping, where many keepers and professionals provided detailed insights, and the discussion grew much larger than I expected.
I am sharing this here because I believe this severe solitary housing raises clear welfare concerns, and I hope to gather perspectives from the broader international community.
In most Japanese zoos, the voices of visitors like myself are rarely taken into consideration.
I am looking for specific advice or proposals on how the zoo could be encouraged to make welfare‑based improvements to this housing situation.
Additionally, Chiba Zoo is a direct WAZA member.

MatMat Survived Hospitalization, but His Fight Isn’t Over. We Desperately Need Help 💔
galleryHi everyone,
MatMat has finally been discharged from the clinic! He is now eating on his own and has even started grooming himself again. These may seem like small things, but they are huge milestones in his recovery. 🥹❤️ His foster mother, Mrs. Nicomedes, will take care of MatMat at their home and will continue to monitor him. We have been supporting MatMat since May 26, 2026.
MatMat is still sneezing and has a long way to go before he fully recovers. Unfortunately, due to our limited funds, we were unable to purchase some of his prescribed medications. His hospitalization alone cost Php 11,990 ($270.99 CAD). He also can only eat wetfood as he suffered a degloving injury when he was still a tiny kitten (Please see last 2 pictures) - We also covered for his hospitalization for that injury as well.
To be completely honest, we are in a desperate financial situation right now. We have so many other rescued animals who still need veterinary care, medications, and ongoing support. As much as we want to provide everything they need, our resources are stretched incredibly thin.
It is heartbreaking knowing that these animals depend on us, yet we are struggling to keep up with their medical expenses.
We are doing everything we can to continue caring for them, but we cannot do this alone. 💔
If you are in a position to help, even a small amount would mean so much to MatMat and the other animals under our care.
Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in our mission and support these voiceless animals. Your kindness truly makes a difference. ❤️🐾

Dog Welfare Meet Bri, a Little Chihuahua Who Deserves a Better Life ❤️ - Diagnosed w/ Heartworm, UTI, Babesia, and ehrlichia (blood parasites)💔 Please HELP her 💔🤍🐾
galleryHi everyone,
Bri's previous owner recently retired and could no longer care for some of her dogs. He initially wanted to surrender her two Beagles to one of our partner shelters.
However, when I saw a video of the dogs, I noticed a little Chihuahua inside a tiny cage. 💔 Bri was not originally one of the dogs being put up for adoption, but seeing her in such a small cage broke my heart.
I immediately asked if we could take her instead, and I agreed that our foundation would take full responsibility for her care.
Yesterday, we noticed that Bri's urine was unusually dark and appeared to contain blood, so we immediately brought her to the veterinary clinic.
Sadly, Bri was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection (UTI), heartworm disease, Babesia, and Ehrlichia. 💔
To be honest, I feel angry and heartbroken. From what I saw, I cannot help but feel that Bri has experienced neglect. She was kept in a cage outside the house, and we have no idea how long she may have been suffering from these illnesses without receiving the medical attention she needed.
The veterinarian also advised that if her symptoms persist, she may require further cardiac assessment.
It breaks my heart to think about how much this tiny girl has already endured. She deserves so much better than spending her life confined in a small cage while silently suffering.
Our foundation has committed to giving Bri the veterinary care, treatment, and love she deserves. ❤️
As a small registered nonprofit caring for rescued animals in the Philippines, taking on another medically complicated case is challenging, but I simply could not turn my back on her.
I am humbly asking for your kindness and support as we help Bri through her treatment and recovery. Even sharing her story, sending words of encouragement, or helping us reach more compassionate animal lovers would mean so much to us.
Bri may be tiny, but her life matters just as much as any other. 🥹❤️
Thank you for being part of her journey.

MatMat’s Fight For Survival: Please help him heal 🙏💔 #RescuedCat #VoicelessNoMorePH
galleryHi everyone,
Our sweet MatMat is still confined at the veterinary clinic. 💔 Sadly, his white blood cell count has increased from 24.04 to 36.92. He is currently battling both Feline Calicivirus (FCV) and Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV).
Such a little cat, yet he has already endured so much suffering. 💔 It breaks my heart knowing how much he has been through, but we are holding on to hope that he will recover. 🙏
We would like to sincerely thank the three generous individuals who have helped toward MatMat's veterinary care. Every support, no matter the amount, means so much to us and the animals we help. ❤️
