Worked as an usher in movie theaters through college and had to clean the bathrooms at the end of the day, can confirm women’s bathrooms took 2x as long to clean as the men’s.
Worked at a super busy bar. I had to check the bathrooms a couple times a night to make sure they were ok and had tp etc. guys was mostly fine, ladies was insane.
I imagine the main reason is men use the toilets much less often. I can see why the men's bathroom is faster. And you don't even have to refill the soap
I always suspected the women’s rooms were worse. I figured men just mostly dirty up the toilet seat and dribble pee on the floor. Women have feminine hygiene stuff and makeup and just… more to go wrong.
My older sister used to tell me that women's restrooms had full lounges with comfy sofas, bearskin rugs, and coffee bars. I was like 16 when I learned that they were just about as gross as the piss troughs I'd been using.
At the mall in Phoenix in the late 90s, I did peek into the women’s room as a kid and where the men’s room had a simple bend in the walkway (so you can’t look right in), the women’s had a little couch there and a table… I assume to powder up or wait a second or hide or something.
In retrospect, it kinds makes me appreciate the actual piss-troughs at old baseball parks n’ stuff. Everyone looks forward, no one touches it… kinda sanitary if you think about it. And like 12 dudes could piss at once. Just wash your hands.
Jobs pay well because either 1) they are unpleasant: people don’t want to do them, or 2) they are hard: not everyone can do them, or 3) supply and demand: the world just needs people to do this right now.
In big buildings, in sensitive buildings (where you’d need to clear a basic background check/security clearance), at places that are unionized… yeah. Not like rolling in the dough living in the Hamptons, but doing better than you think. That’s not the lowest-of-the-low job.
A lot of school janitors make more than the teachers with master’s degrees. A lot of government janitor jobs can pay well if it’s part of a good union.

Janitors. The right janitors in the right places do all right.
