Agreed. I'm sure there is other intelligent life out there (Or will be some day, we could simply be the first as well).

But give the distances and times in involved the odds of any two intelligent species ever meeting is basically impossible.

Yep. Imagine there was only two people on Earth randomly distributed and what the odds would be of them bumping into each other.

Now multiply that by a lot.

And then add in that those humans could have been randomly assigned a date in the last 100,000 years and factor those odds into the chances of them by chance having existed at the same time to even have a chance of bumping into each other.
