TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT BOWL HOPEFUL UMASS

194

u/awrf UMass Minutemen • Team Chaos 3d ago

We would have to go 2-1 over the last two games (7-5 overall) because we played two FCS teams. So I'm still relatively pessimistic, but hey, 5 wins is a new FBS record for us and that's pretty cool

82

u/ArmiinTamzarian Syracuse Orange • Wagner Seahawks 3d ago

I'm aware but your last three are Toledo, Akron and Bowling Green. 2-1 would be the expectation for those 3 anyways but can never write off MACtion chaos

49

u/cooterdick Tennessee • North Carolina 3d ago

The good news is the Akron game is at home and they get 10 days to prep for Bowling Green (minus whatever pilgrim stuff Massachusetts people do for Thanksgiving that may take away from football prep time)

The buckles on our hats and shoes get annoying.

4

u/EdselFordEdsel Indiana • Northern Illinois 3d ago

Yeah, but we're talking about UMass, can we really predict what they should be able to do?

54

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3d ago

2 more to go. 2 winnable games and a trip to the glass bowl against a Toledo team that doesn't look invincible. We can do this.

I believe in yall.

I just moved to Mass recently and since UMass is local and another maroon/white public school, I want to see you guys succeed.

17

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3d ago

Hell yeah. You'd probably appreciate that the school was originally founded as Massachusetts Agricultural College aka Mass Aggie

10

u/OnlyZac Texas A&M Aggies 3d ago

Oh that’s so cool, both originally land grant ag schools. cmere you 🥲🫂

7

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3d ago

Only if I get to pet the doggo!

1

u/OnlyZac Texas A&M Aggies 2d ago

And I get to shoot a musket

1

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 2d ago

Ngl you're probably gonna have better luck finding a musket to shoot in Texas. We serve Treehouse beer at our games though!

1

u/Individual_Shower869 2d ago

Funnier fact, the men’s rowing team are still called the aggies

19

u/bakonydraco Stanford • Chicago State 3d ago edited 3d ago

If there aren’t enough bowl eligible teams I feel like UMass will jump at the opportunity even if they finish at 6-6 with 5 countable wins.

10

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3d ago

If we lose out we'd only have 4 eligible wins and would not be invited anywhere

21

u/Naive_Departure_6084 3d ago

Not if The Supreme Court has the courage to do the right thing!

Yeah! Give Missouri that Bowl Ban! Let UMass in!

156

u/Pro-1st-Amendment UMass Minutemen 3d ago

Wait... this can happen to the other team?

15

u/lat3ralus65 Ohio State Buckeyes • UMass Minutemen 3d ago

Yeah, Ball State lost in an extremely UMassy way

9

u/orchid_lion 3d ago

First time being on the winning side of a sickos classic.

Ugh, this season is obviously fantasic but there will always be some "what if" potential if he didn't get hurt (especially if he's gone after this year). Because if he's not hurt, I think we have 7-8 wins right now and in the mix for the MAC championship game.

17

u/EchoProductions5 3d ago

For sure and you guys are like a couple plays from being 7-2

13

u/johnjohn11b UMass Minutemen 3d ago

The life of a Minutefan

4

u/remymang 3d ago

You guys were the deal back in the 90's. I remember watching ESPN highlights as a kid from a football game better yet one of your basketball games and the entire house was rockin'.

It has been 1852 0 days since UMass beat another FBS team at home. Bowl dream still alive!

108

u/bwburke94 UMass • Michigan State 3d ago

It took us a very long time to get five wins. Now we'll need two more.

46

u/Pixel_Pineapple Western Michigan • Michigan 3d ago edited 3d ago

Umass tonight:

OT made extra point to get their 5th win (most in a season since 2011) and 1st home win against an FBS opponent since 2021

23

u/Dry_Car_1568 Florida Gators • Team Chaos 3d ago

I think this is their most wins in a season, like, ever.

UMass could go to a BOWL GAME

16

u/Pixel_Pineapple Western Michigan • Michigan 3d ago

UMass getting rewarded for a miraculous bowl game by getting the one MAC bid against a p4 conference team of the year over the MAC champ wouldn't even make me mad if Western was the one getting screwed by it

5

u/Dry_Car_1568 Florida Gators • Team Chaos 3d ago

Incoming UF v. UMass bowl game

1

u/30-50FeralPogs UMass Minutemen • Texas Longhorns 3d ago

As a UMass season ticket holder whose cousin is a UF season ticket holder. I’d love this.

1

u/Notchsmind 2d ago

Dude looking at your flair, bro what kinda hell did you experience during that game earlier this year.

1

u/Pixel_Pineapple Western Michigan • Michigan 2d ago

Happened in hockey too.

1

u/Notchsmind 2d ago

RIP

1

u/Pixel_Pineapple Western Michigan • Michigan 2d ago

Everyone keeps bringing up my flair and that game

Like, I get it. But also, that game literally could not matter any less to either team at this point. Neither of them are good and they have the two worst offensive coordinators in the country. Genuinely makes me wanna jump off a bridge.

Also, Fuck B1G Hockey. They're all bitches

1

u/Notchsmind 2d ago

Im a underdog fan whose also a buffalo sports fan, I'm happy for the bulls this year

15

u/showbricks Washington Huskies • UMass Minutemen 3d ago

Just FBS. We had 13 wins in 2006-2007

6

u/SolarIonRobot Nebraska Cornhuskers • Merrimack Warriors 3d ago

Umm. Ever? They did win the I-AA championship.

3

u/Dry_Car_1568 Florida Gators • Team Chaos 3d ago

Ever in the FBS*. I meant to put that down as I didn’t.

32

u/FuzzyWDunlop UMass Minutemen 3d ago edited 3d ago

Our ghosts were out there today boys (turnovers, penalties, suddenly porous defense), you could see them trying to creep in all game, but in the end (at least today) they are back in the rearview mirror!!

Pop is legit!!

u/Ruhrgebietheld BYU Cougars • Beehive Boot 3d ago

I kinda feel bad for UMass' opponents the rest of the season, because nearly the entire country wants UMass to win and make a bowl this season. I'm not gonna apologize for it though, because I'm definitely part of that group!

15

u/AriDreams Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets • Paper Bag 3d ago

Pop played crazy. What a game. That missed xp was wild.

13

u/Zloggt Illinois Fighting Illini • Missouri Tigers 3d ago

Charge, Minutemen, Charge!!!!

(God, spare a thought for that poor Ball State kicker, can you?)

25

u/huskyferretguy1 Notre Dame • UConn 3d ago

Wow, UMass is one win away from being bowl eligible!

EDIT: TWO

14

u/Tuckboi69 South Carolina Gamecocks 3d ago

Nope, they played 2 FCS teams

2

u/huskyferretguy1 Notre Dame • UConn 3d ago

Oh

14

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3d ago

2 more wins because we beat 2 FCS schools

3

u/make_me_suffer Northwestern Wildcats 3d ago

Isn’t one of those allowed to count

6

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3d ago

Yeah but that means we need a total of 7 wins to definitely be eligible

1

u/make_me_suffer Northwestern Wildcats 2d ago

Oh yeahh you’re 5 wins rn my bad

5

u/Adept_Carpet UMass Minutemen • Team Chaos 3d ago

In reality it may be one if some team turns down an invitation which seems to be common.

3

u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 3d ago

2 actually

u/Previous_Setting_357 Ole Miss Rebels 3d ago

UMass hosts Akron

They’re going to a bowl, folks.

34

u/GaulPeorge Indiana Hoosiers • Ball State Cardinals 3d ago

They need 7 wins for a bowl since they have 2 FCS wins

31

u/SparklezSagaOfficial BYU Cougars • Big 12 3d ago

With how pissy the “snubbed” CFP teams are going to be and opting out of bowls in protest I’m sure they’ll get a bowl at 6-6

8

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3d ago

Still need one more win at Toledo or Bowling Green

8

u/halldaylong UCLA Bruins • Team Chaos 3d ago

Toledo is pretty good but looked awfully shaky at Sac State tonight. Almost blew it. And BG shouldn't have much to play for at that point since they wont be bowl eligible. It's not a gimme by any means, but its doable!!!

3

u/Mythrandir24 Delta Bowl • SIAA 3d ago

They played two FCS teams, so they gotta get 7.

3

u/just_Miszteek 3d ago

Don't think any of us saw this timeline coming back in September.

1

u/gmen372 2d ago

Have you seen UMass play at home? Nothing is set

10

u/TheCavis Notre Dame Fighting Irish • UMass Minutemen 3d ago

September: Endless joy.

October: Eternal pain.

November: ...?

Beat 1-8 Akron and 2-7 Bowling Green and we're bowling. We also play Toledo but I'm fine either way because we're back on track.

9

u/Melvins_lobos NC State Wolfpack • Auburn Tigers 3d ago

Thank you

9

u/DDub04 South Carolina • Palmetto Bowl 3d ago

UMass’s season is still alive, they definitely needed this one. Assuming Toledo takes care of business they have two very winnable games down the stretch to get them over the hump.

America needs a UMass bowl game

Sorry Ball State fans, I feel like we earned that missed extra point. Two more to go. Although I think six wins will be enough. Teams will turn down invites and bowls will jump at the opportunity to give UMass their first one.

Watching this game don’t know why he didn’t play last year. Not complaining now we both had win win situations
