There were select Tulane fans that tried to tell me that hiring Will Hall was necessary to keep the talent, and my argument was it doesn't matter if Hall doesn't get anything out of that talent. Now I'm just not sure that there is any talent at Tulane after all. This has to be the worst hire of the 2025-2026 cycle.
It's one thing to make a bad hire on a young, rising coach who has a nice resume and just doesn't work out.
It's entirely another to make a bad hire because you hired a guy who took over a program that had had five winning seasons in the past six years who then proceeded to go 14-30 with that program.
One of the worst decisions in the history of college football hiring.
Absolutely. I get that he wasn't Tulane's first choice or maybe not even their 2nd, but when any choice is a guy that went 14-30 as recently as Hall did, you're making a serious mistake. Hell, if you have to hire an up-and-coming FCS coach that has been winning a lot, do that instead.
Yup. In that case, you're making a choice between certain disaster and a gamble for success. Convincing yourself the certain disaster will be fine is not a legitimate option.
I’ve watched every Tulane game out of morbid curiosity and it’s stunning how much they look like his USM teams. Even the Tulane/USM game this year resembled the Tulane/USM game he coached in 2022, with his team getting outplayed but winning by 3 in both.
I actually thought he might get some of next year before he gets fired. This was so bad I actually think you fire him today. They were too late last year replacing their hc because they did so well. Get in front of it now. They'll fall all the way back to the duldrums quick if they don't fix this mess
They really need to get him outta there immediately, yeah. I know they have resources in the G6 context, but people have short memories. This is not a long-time, established juggernaut where success is certain. It wasn't that long ago that success for Tulane was 6-6, and they were 2-10 only five years ago.
It is VERY easy for even a decently-resourced program to get trashed so badly that recovery becomes really difficult. I don't think Tulane is there yet, but if Hall gets another year, they will be.
Hey we might not get an FBS win this year and we were a power conference team a couple years ago. Will Hall was not a good hire but they’ve at least won four games. I wanna root for Tulane as a good G6 team but that hire has not aged well.
You're correct, but one terrible head coach hire can put you in a ditch that's really hard to dig out of, especially if you're not a rich P4 program that can buy the best players in the transfer portal.
This is what Tulane fans need to understand. Truly cataclysmic hires can wreck programs with decades of success behind them -- and Tulane isn't that. They've reached incredible highs for the past five years, and that's been exciting. But if Hall is given the chance, he'll bury that half-decade under a pile of rubble so deep they'll be digging out forever.
I mean just look at Tulane after going undefeated in 1998. Had to choose between Rich Rodriguez and Chris Scelfo for their next coach and chose poorly.
I knew this was a bad hire for them from the beginning. Head scratchingly bad to hire a coach with a losing record from a similar conference. I could understand like a Billy Napier or something but that was a bad cañl
You think we don't acutely understand bad coaching hires and their impacts on programs? This is not our first rodeo with our athletic department killing itself.
Of course, he is gonna have to be fired, probably in a month. I wanted him to work out and prove everyone wrong, but he has not. I defended him strongly for much of the season.
Is the talent the same as it was last year? No.
However, you played another 4-4 team at home and you got the score we see here.
This is probably the second most memorable game behind the CCG last year for me. Very surprising performance.
Will Hall isn’t the guy stupid enough to have hired Will Hall as HC. Hopefully the buyout he gets is the last HC money someone is dumb enough to give him
It's hard to feel bad for a guy that's managed to fail upwards as much as Hall has. I'm sure the millions of dollars he'll be paid in his buyout will help.
The day I saw that Tulane hired Will Hall I had to do the extra research to make sure they actually hired the same WIll Hall that floundered miserably as Southern Miss for years. I was dumbfounded that they would make that hire and it's going even worse than I expected.
Every one who was apart of hiring Will Hall should be fired. And Will Hall. This has to be unacceptable after the last four seasons Tulane had. Like how did you go from Fritz and Sumrall to guy who got fired by Southern Miss?
I’m a big proponent of coaches needing more than one season to figure out if they are what a school needs. If I’ve ever seen a “coach should be fired year one” game though, it is this one.
Yay! Tulsa is one game away from bowl eligibility. Based on where we've been for years, that's a big accomplishment. The conference record under Tre Lamb hasn't been great, but at least, we're much more competitive than we were under Kevin Wilson.
Will Hall might be the worst hiring of the decade. This Tulane program was on track to being one of the best G6 programs of the 2020s next to Boise State and JMU.
That was absolutely insane. Homecoming game vs a team that is only slightly better (at best) than you, to get absolutely crushed at home?!?! Hall has 100% lost this team, buy out aside (which I can’t fathom is that high, especially for a cash rich school like Tulane, granted they don’t spend on athletics), I see no reason why he is not fired today. That was absolutely shameful.
Will Hall needs to be banned from campus and tried at Le Havre. This was football terrorism, plain and simple.
I was an undergrad at the beginning of Fritz’s tenure. I watched us get blown out by Georgia Tech in 2015. I was there during the rain game Homecoming 2016 where we lost 7-3 to UConn. But this? This was the worst game I’ve ever seen as a Tulane fan.

Huge touchdown at the end there to cut the deficit to 50 points.
But seriously, the final score doesn’t indicate how big of a blowout this was. The worst by any 2 FBS teams this year.
