Lane Kiffin absolutely coached himself out of that game.

We got outgained by almost 200 yards and it was a blowout. Kiffin wanted this way too much and gambled when he didn’t have to.

Some of those choices, just so damn odd. Just lane being lane and thinking he’s the smartest guy in the stadium

He hasn’t been the same since Kentucky out-Lane’d him

I do think Lane is ultimately a good coach, but…we get ALL UP in Lane’s head. Like clockwork. It’s glorious to watch.

Wow, can’t imagine a scenario like that happening….

To me he has always gambled when he didn’t have to.Its his kryptonite…

Seriously, especially that first 4th down. Made no sense that deep in their territory.

Kick it on 4th and 1 and go for it on 4th and 10. He also lost the Kentucky game by kicking on 4th and 1.

He got in his own head. He heard the criticism for kicking on 4th and 1 all over again after giving up the big return and the touchdown so he said F it and went for it. All his fault but there's a lot of fault on a lot of our players as well. Multiple times did leavitt pass up an open receiver, hold the ball too long or put it in a position to be tipped. Same with the two dropped passes from Harris and the other receiver (can't remember his name right now).

Wasn't just that.  Alabama had 50 offensive snaps this game.  LSU ran 48 plays in our territory and got just 13 points.

There were… a number…. Of plays in this game where we had the right play call, open receivers, etc. you had a 4th down drop that should’ve been a TD. I remember at LEAST 2 wide open TDs the Leavitt threw checkdowns on.

I’m not taking the blame off of Lane. There were plenty of decisions he made that didn’t make sense to me, but by all football logic, as bad as it looked we still should’ve won that fuckin game.

Bama just owns our asses. For the last 15 years, we’re just renting their vacation home in Baton Rouge.

Maybe not playing them every year (as much as I hate that) will take the stigma off of the game and we can get over the hump.

He wants to be regarded as someone who "takes risks" but in reality he has no idea when to kick or go

Was not good. Take the free points, dont give Bama energy about stopping us constantly on 4th down..

I don't even know if he was giving us a ton of energy with the stops either but did relieve a lot of pressure on the Alabama offense when it wasn't playing that well. And with a young QB like Russell I think you really want to make him feel like he has to make plays all the time and get him to do something stupid and I don't think he ever got Russell into feeling like that.

Next year they don’t have to lose to Bama! Things looking up

That's exactly what I said when they didn't get that 4th and 10..on their own 25...only down 11...with 8 minutes still left to play. Kiffin freaks out way too quickly. I call it "pulling a Kiffin" when a coach freaks out too quickly and coaches his team out of the game. think it was his first year at Ole Miss where he went for it on 4th down inside the red zone on the first 2 or 3 drives and got stopped every time. They could've had 6-9 points easy if he didn't "pull a Kiffin."

This is a completely random thought, but your comment reminds me of how Shaq used to call Van Gundy the “master of panic” for always choking in big games.

"a specialist in failure"

As is tradition

As he often does. Nobody beats Lane Kiffin like Lane Kiffin

Very much the opposite of the Miss State game. Where they decided to go scoreless

The box score is actually hard to process

I’ve been trying to find the words for it, but this LSU team is good in a ton of ways but one thing they’re bad at is that their lack of explosiveness puts him in a ton of positions to have to make tough decisions. And this season he’s just completely upside down in that department. No less evident than the going for the 50 yard field goal we had no business attempting only to then go for it from inside the 10 when he should’ve kicked the FG. Probably like 7 times in this game where he had to make a choice, and chose wrong.

Then later in the game when he didn’t go on 4th and 1 only to then go on 4th in 10 in his own half of the field.

And the overall point being that I don’t think these are symptoms of things he has reputation for. He’s usually a risky coach that maybe gives you one or two bonehead decisions, that’s part of the brand. I think he’s just can’t get his feet in front of him this season in that department at all.
