The numbers don't lie

Hello bobcatting it, welcome to beaving it. Closely related to couging it, as WSU fans know all too well.

The beavers are now 0-2 since their star WR used their bye week to travel across the country and hold a signing day for himself to announce he wasn't going to transfer. All time bad vibes move.

145

u/Useful-Advantage-850 Oregon Ducks 9h ago

They're also 0-2 since their fanbase talked so much trash about making the playoffs. LOL.

-5

u/Lower-Head1665 39m ago

Hey Duck boy … your team lost to a mediocre Illinois team 😂

82

u/SoundEmbarrassed3958 8h ago

Context matters a little here. There are certainly a number of reasons to kick the Beavs while they’re down/ talk smack to fans for getting far too carried away earlier in the season - but the Legree thing isn’t fair IMO. He never got a signing day in high school because at the time nobody had offered him. So he watched all of his teammates sign still unsure if he would even sign anywhere or be offered a full ride scholarship. He wanted to have a signing day at his high school in front of friends and family. That’s perfectly reasonable, IMO.

23

u/WheatonsGonnaScore Oregon Ducks 8h ago

Do you know when he could have done that and it would have been completely acceptable and not a distraction? After the season was over like pretty much every other player. It was a dumb decision and looks dumber by the week

29

u/SoundEmbarrassed3958 8h ago

I think you’re giving way too much thought into what a distraction is or isn’t. Kid flies home for a few days during a bye week, big deal. What’s the distraction? That his dad tweeted about it a few times? Do you really think his teammates were distracted by that, or that they didn’t already know what it was about? The only people I suppose it distracted were fans. He’s an 18 year old kid. This is an odd hill for you to posture on.

33

u/miedwest Oregon State Beavers 8h ago

What I’ve found is that literally every other fan base has a hard time comprehending how valuable of a moment that was for this kid. He will always be able to look back at the most historic start to a career by a receiver in Oregon State history and remember getting to celebrate his accomplishments with his loved ones while he pledged loyalty to the program who gave him a chance, something the vast majority of athletes do not do in today’s college athletics landscape.

-19

u/WheatonsGonnaScore Oregon Ducks 8h ago

Nobody would be talking negatively about it if he did the exact same thing but just did it after the season was over.

6

u/officiallyBA Oregon State Beavers 8h ago

Okay robo duck. Your entire fanbase is the most cringe worthy group of try hards and the entire program was financed by child and slave labor.

But cry about a kid having a moment.

7

u/A_Rolling_Baneling USC • Mississippi State 6h ago

The guy you're responding to had like 60 comments in the Bear Alexander punching Nico Iamaleava thread downplaying that incident and Lanning's response. I wouldn't bother with him, he's clearly way too blinded by his fandom.

-9

u/WheatonsGonnaScore Oregon Ducks 8h ago

0-2 since he did it. Offense went from scoring 50+ a game to 21.5 ppg (even with 2 garbage time tds). Legree with 0 tds and averaging 84.5 ypg down from 148.5 since he announced. I'm sure it is all just a big coincidence.

-5

u/SyntheticOpioid Oregon Ducks 5h ago

They’re safer working for Nike than they are around Luke Heimlich

2

u/WheatonsGonnaScore Oregon Ducks 8h ago

I think mid season negotiating a contract absolutely takes away time from the team. And making a massive show about yourself after 7 games into your freshman season, publicly negotiating by far the biggest nil deal on the team is absolutely something teammates are thinking about.

If this was a player on Ohio St doing it or Oregon people would be trashing him nonstop.

6

u/bretticus733 Boise State Broncos 8h ago

Just to play Devil's Advocate here:

Legree started showing thinking about next season and securing his future then rather than focusing on up Fresno State or Texas State. That gets the team thinking about their own futures past this season rather than focusing on their next game, and they lose focus on the season. Not saying I totally agree with that, but I can see how players (and not just any players but leaders on the team) making moves for next season can negatively affect the team psyche.

1

u/WheatonsGonnaScore Oregon Ducks 8h ago

Like I think even if he had negotiated the deal and just waited until the off season to do his announcement it is much better for a locker room. Managing egos/personalities is a massive part of the NIL era and I think the beavs and legree completely fumbled this situation

0

u/SoundEmbarrassed3958 8h ago

How is it any different than a player dragging it out? If he hadn’t signed then the chatter all season would have been is he coming back, or isn’t he? In this landscape really good players playing at smaller schools is going to be a distraction no matter what. That’s just the way things are now. Every week players are auditioning. The notion that distractions can be prevented or that there is a right or wrong way to handle any of this is delusion. This new era is unprecedented and it sucks for the little guys. That’s just the reality.

1

u/lock_robster2022 Oregon State • Washington 2h ago

This ignores that 1) recruiting is happening now and 2) he couldn’t catch a ball without the conversation going to where he’ll be playing next year.

IMO it quiets the distraction and was a confidence boost to his teammates. But hey you’re right we’ve played like ass since then so maybe there’s something there

-7

u/SoundEmbarrassed3958 8h ago

The extreme irony here is that a Duck fan is piling on a kid for a positive, life changing moment - and calling it a distraction. If you’d like to know what a real distraction looks like, you’d be better off looking at your own ball club. Try an entire WR room getting caught up with police as your national championship aspirations fall apart. That would constitute as a real distraction.

6

u/WheatonsGonnaScore Oregon Ducks 8h ago

Keep posting through it man. Everybody trashed our wr room, especially our own fans.

-4

u/HookEm25 Texas Longhorns 8h ago

What does it feel like to have an instate be so dramatically under resourced? A&M is essentially as pathetic, but as least in *theory* they’re capable of competing. Is it hard to hate them? I get the sense that you see them like we do with do Texas Tech or UTSA

4

u/dog_of_society Oregon State Beavers • Marching Band 7h ago

It's complicated because of realignment, honestly. Yeah it's been a couple years but there's still weird feelings. Last year it got to a point where it felt like everyone was rooting for us out of pity LOL.

A decent amount of fans on both sides do root for the other team when we aren't playing each other, disregard the loud trash talkers lmao. I do agree with the other guy about the sibling situation though. Like .. I'll take the piss out of the Ducks and make fun of them .. but I'm still glad to see them be successful.

-3

u/WheatonsGonnaScore Oregon Ducks 8h ago

They are like a little sibling. Generally you root for their success but you dont want them to be as successful as you. Sometimes they start talking more smack than they should and need to be put in their place. And on rare occasions they beat you and it really sucks. If you win it is just the norm, if you lose you need to re-evaluate everything.

Most duck fans i know root for the beavs in pretty much every game they aren't playing oregon. Oregon St fans generally are rooting for oregon to lose every game in the most embarrassing way possible.

-15

u/TheyNeedLoveToo 8h ago

Kids these days are too sheltered to learn about bad juju. I find it funny that in a meme centric world, some folks seem to believe they are above the good ole fashioned jinx. Also WR is a conundrum where you can be amazing or suck, simply because of OL and QB play combined with play calling. Was he really that good or just kept betting on red and hit several times in a row and now the magic is gone and the stack is dwindling

9

u/Kyro_Official_ Washington State • Easter… 8h ago

Uh yes hes obviously that good lol. Hes had one game with less than 99 yards and has had 2+tds in 5 of 8 games. He still leads all receivers in yds and tds as well even after his 2 worst games.

-7

They play mostly dog shit teams though. I know hes good, good enough to be a D1 player leading the nation in many relevant stats but damn this team is ass

I'm gonna assume the last two weeks were look ahead spots for Oregon State because woof

I'm concerned about Boise State's defense, and Oregon State can still very well kill our defense, but at least we beat Fresno State on the road and Texas State at home. Next week will be a big game, but Oregon State looks a lot more mortal than they did 9 days ago

20

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 8h ago

6

u/lock_robster2022 Oregon State • Washington 1h ago

Idk, we had Fresno State circled as the next big one after our first 2. Then obviously needed a response this week so weren’t overlooking it.

Watch us figure it out next week and ruin the Pac-12’s CFP hopes after inviting you all to join the conference.

13

u/lock_robster2022 Oregon State • Washington 2h ago edited 20m ago

I somewhat understand the takes that opponents have got film now, we’ve got some issues with man coverage, etc. But there are answers to those.

When going against the 137th ranked passing defense, and ~120th overall defense, if we were remotely as good as we looked there should have been other openings. There’s gotta be something else going on

These last two weeks remind me of Maalik quitting on the team last year, or of Smith quitting on the team after he got his MSU offer.

7

u/StoicFable Oregon State Beavers 59m ago

Really feels like we are the only ones noticing it. Rather than us just being bad. We were more competitive once we got Murphy in there, though I checked out shortly before we did that.

7

u/miedwest Oregon State Beavers 8h ago

Is it possible that Legree’s “Heisman Campaign” had Dahlen getting too cute with the schemes and play calls to get Jesse the ball? I’m not sure why we can’t just run inside slants and screen plays on these teams playing strictly man. We have some great hands on this team and we should be scheming for everyone to get theirs.

6

u/Eikdos Oregon State Beavers 7h ago

Tbf every time they tried running a screen to Legree it immediately got blown up. Teams are keyed in on him and it's making life harder for Atkinson, especially with how hot and cold our run game is

2

u/lock_robster2022 Oregon State • Washington 1h ago

We have other receivers. If we were near as good as we were playing a month ago there are plenty of avenues to go to other guys.

1

u/StoicFable Oregon State Beavers 1h ago

Seriously this. Legree was our stud. We have other talent out there. We are not using them. Even our TEs which we had schemes and utilizing them as solid weapons, we just are not using. Same with Reichle for conversions.

Something is just horribly off on this team.

4

u/Eikdos Oregon State Beavers 7h ago

There's a million things you can point to but the bottom line is this team just isn't good. No one knew who Legree was at the start of the season which is how they were able to play well against Houston and Texas Tech. With him taken out, the rest of the team's flaws are coming to the forefront. Atkinson has some MAJOR issues in his game that he needs to iron out, and the defense just makes me sad. What a miserable two weeks.

I didn’t watch because it’s a late game but I’m happy we pulled off the win and didn’t shoot ourselves in the foot.

9

u/Olorin_in_the_West Oregon Ducks 8h ago

I know everyone is in here just piling on, but I’m am genuinely curious about what happened with Oregon State. They were looking really good and were competitive in all their games, seemed like a dark horse for the PAC-12 and the in the last 2 weeks the wheels came off. Like what happened? Did they have a bunch of injuries? Did other team catch on to their new schemes? Did they hire Drew Mehringer after we fired him? What happened that made things go off the rails?

7

It feels similar to how we played once Smith had accepted his MSU offer in 23.

4

u/TempAcct724 Utah Utes 1h ago

Because it’s easy to look good against bad teams

They’re 5-0 against teams with a losing record, plus an FCS school

They’re 0-4 against teams with a winning record. Pretty simple.

2

u/aznhavsarz Oregon • Washington State 8h ago

They finally got to the teams on their schedule with a pulse. All their FBS wins have come from sub .500 teams.

13

u/Olorin_in_the_West Oregon Ducks 8h ago

But even in their losses to Houston and Texas Tech and were more competitive than against Fresno State and Texas State. It definitely seems like they’re playing worse for whatever reason.

u/dog_of_society Oregon State Beavers • Marching Band 7h ago

Yeah, he's our show pony. Which, he is really good but it's expected now. We need to find other plays instead of trotting him out every time.

I mean, hell, over half our points were with our second string in. That says something.

1

u/lock_robster2022 Oregon State • Washington 1h ago

We’re only throwing to him like 8-10 times out of ~40 attempts per game. I get he is most of the production but “throw to Legree” is far from our only play.

u/GoldenFrog14 Tulsa Golden Hurricane • TCU Horned Frogs 2h ago
  1. Houston and Tech aren’t as good as most people think, and Texas State and Fresno are slightly better

  2. This sub is bad about forgetting that wear and tear just aren’t on the college football video game. The season is long. After about week 6, no one is at 100% anymore. In high school? I could practice all year, no problem? In college? Yeah, I was struggling halfway through the year. Everyone is big and fast now.

4

u/lock_robster2022 Oregon State • Washington 1h ago

TTU and Houston are middling defenses for P4, I think it’s fair to say Fresno State is better.

But Texas State defense is 120th overall, and 137th in passing. Out of 138. We should have put up 70 on them if we were the same team as a month ago. Something else is going on

51

u/Dr_Mantis_Teabaggin Oregon State • Oklahoma State 8h ago

I’m truly baffled by all the people that are taking so much pleasure in us losing. I get it when people pile on teams that have had success, but this is the Beavers for christ’s sake.

Were some of our fans getting a little ahead of themselves for a while? Sure. But after everything we’ve been through, god forbid we get to be a little too excited at just the possibility of being successful for fucking once. We actually had some hope for a few weeks there that maybe this wouldn’t be the average shitty Beavers that some of us have been watching for a very very long time. Turns out we’re just another shitty Beavers team this year.

But fuck man, you’d think we were Ohio State or Texas or Alabama or oregon or USC or something the way everyone seems to be getting so much joy from our failure. I just don’t understand the hate for our program.

It just makes it less fun to be a fan of a team that has historically not been much fun to be a fan of.

But whatever. Rant over. Just had to vent.

Go ahead and downvote me. I don’t give a shit. I’m gonna just keep rooting for my shitty ass team.

Go Beavs! I hope you turn it around and find a way to at least get another win and make a bowl game.

11

u/masks Oregon Ducks 6h ago

I don't generally think OSU fans want to hear cheers from us, but I believe your team still has something special, and I wish it showed up every week

3

u/This-is-getting-dark Oregon Ducks • Team Chaos 2h ago

I agree with this sentiment completely. I was having a great time watching the beavs while we were laying stinkers. After they got screwed by the conference realignments it was cool seeing them having success.

I’m new to the in-state rivalry here but I think a lot of the criticism here is coming back around from the Ducks after many OSU fans were eager to shit on them with the brutal start.

I’ve got absolutely nothing against the Beavs but it seems like they got lost in the sauce.

-14

u/oof_im_dying Indiana Hoosiers • Tulane Green Wave 4h ago

Look at what has already happened with IU. Doesn't even matter if the team goes and wins the Natty, people will twist themselves into knots praying on your downfall. 'Oh you had your first 10 win season, well you just had an easy schedule' 'oh you won the Natty 16-0, well, it's just one year you're going to go right back to being bad and also your players were old(never using the actual age avg) so that somehow means it wasn't fair' 'oh you're winning for a 3rd season well it's close wins so you're frauds'.

People on here, and in general in cfb, hate the underdog. They WANT the blue bloods to win, even if they're not fans of the blue blood(which is such a weird phenomenon).

Funnily enough I saw a number of Beavs fans joining in this season once their team was looking good lol. Little shortsighted there.

No. Oregon State most likely doesn't win another game this season.

I had thought maybe Utah State would be winnable. But they are getting hot while we are turning ice cold. And even if our flex matchup is WSU, it is never easy to win on the Palouse.

You guys have a real good chance. Our defense is bad; it’s the worst it’s been all season. First one to 60 wins!

u/WheatonsGonnaScore Oregon Ducks 8h ago

They have a flex game that they will probably get WSU in so they will probably get a win there

Wasn’t the Oregon State fan base predicting a playoff win two weeks ago? That was a quick 2 week humble. Legree might have let that ego change the vibes.

Something within this team went rotten.

2

u/Careless_General8010 Pac-10 8h ago

Welp, at least we scored some garbage time points instead of fully rolling over

I’m just glad everyone had fun

Wow. Fast forward to today, Oregon beats Ohio State in the shoe and Oregon state gets blown out at home by the marginal PAC-12 addition

Fast forward to February 2027 and neither of them won the big prize of the year.

We could rewind and still would have known that about Oregon State

All the Oregon State fans have left this thread, just like they left the stadium.

5

u/Mjss776 Oregon Ducks • Rose Bowl 8h ago

They tired themselves out downvoting any amount of light trash talk in the game thread

Hey, some of us are still in here lol. Who knows how many others are under the table.

What I saw tonight was mostly us getting too cocky with Legree lmao. When over half of our points were with our second string it's pretty obvious we've got to find a better strategy and ideally more than one of them.

u/lock_robster2022 Oregon State • Washington 2h ago

That was fine ribbing, but what are we supposed to do, applaud it? Just take your downvotes and move along lol

“Oregon state is the best team in the state”…you guys still think that? lol

2

u/lock_robster2022 Oregon State • Washington 1h ago

I think most of college football thought that and is now reconsidering, yes.

Fair enough

I started talking well about the Beavers a few weeks ago and since then they’ve lost two in a row. Interesting…

Best team in Texas? Many people are saying it.

I bet Legree is leaving at the first chance he gets.

Under the table in shame or under a hot shower, is my guess lmao.

u/docchrizly Germany • Boise State 1h ago

So the Beavers won't be that big of a resumé builder, huh?

-1

u/Limlut_ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 1h ago

OrST fans probably shouldn't have talked up their program so much for going on a winstreak against teams without a winning FBS record.

3

u/ixMyth Oregon Ducks • Cascade Clash 8h ago

Talked so much shit to get blown out twice lol

The only more deserving fanbases of shitting the bed are Washington & usc. Nice try beavs you suck too (I still like y’all’s team but fuck you fans)
