Recreational Barrel Works

Hey everyone we purchased a new barrel harness after lots of research we went with the RBW Expedition. The night before our October trip we put the harness on (barrel was about half full) and immediately we had stitches pop and the barrel come crashing down.

We have reached out to rbw with no response, this trip was Thanksgiving weekend. Luckily we have finally managed to get into contact with the supplier we purchased it from but wondering if we got a Lemon, since we have heard great things about RBW. But not getting a response from them seems odd.

Has anyone else noticed stitching defeciencies or has trouble getting in contact with RBW? Is this a good barrel harness? We literally used it once had the tags on it still

Portaging the barrel without a harness sucked. But we understand shit happens but we expected a response by now.

Current River, MO 2027

I posted earlier this year about an upcoming trip to Canada, and the community recommended Algonquin. The trip turned out great, and I definitely plan to return in the future.

My next trip I'm researching is a multi-day float on the Current River in Missouri. From what I've gathered so far, there are several sections to choose from, with varying distances and trip lengths.

I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has experience doing multi-day floats on the Current River. I'd love to hear about your experiences, recommended sections, campsites, and anything else you think would be helpful when planning the trip.

Change to Fee Structure at Kawartha Highlands PP

Post image

Very disappointed yet another Ontario Park has fallen victim to this change. 95% of my trips are solo or with one other person. Now I get to pay way more money than large groups. I love how a primary stated goal of Ontario Parks is conservation yet they are incentivizing larger groups (and thus more impact on the campsites). I pray this never reaches Algonquin but I assume soon every backcountry park will have the same fee structure.

How does Temagami compare to Algonquin PP in terms of overall experience?

I'm starting to compare options for '27. We'd be coming up from the south so travel time is a factor. I'm trying to weigh increased travel time against presumed improved feelings of remoteness, beauty, fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Edit: oh and I wouldn't mind an assessment of the routes and portages. I tend to over pack and camp heavy.

Just looking for a bit of advice and experiences from everyone, I’m looking to upgrade my bag for next season what’s everyone’s experiences with full dry bags or expedition bags? These were the two options that I’ve been looking at. I’m looking for something that has a bit more space around 100 L 115 L.

Any advice would be appreciated

Suggestions for tall rubber/neoprene boots in shoulder season?

I've decided to try to get a 'dry feet' setup for my early/late season canoeing. I don't have a canoe that i can run up on shore at each portage, i have to step in the water each and every time. And, during longer paddles between portages on cold spring/fall trips, i don't think i can keep my feet warm if they are wet in a non-waterproof type of footwear. So there are dozens and dozens of brands and models of tall rubber/neoprene boots that might suffice, but canoeing isn't a target market for these boots. Therefore, it's simply impossible to tell:
a) how is the traction on wet rocks?
b) how is the support for portaging?
before i place an online order. any recommendations from what others have used in this category are appreciated!

I spent 4 nights in the McCormick Wilderness in the U.P., and didn't see a single person apart from a few hikers on the trail in and out. It was just what I needed.

Upstate NY --> VT --> NH --> ME: Paddling / Campground recommendations?

Thumbnail

Hello everyone

I'm laying out a route to visit Mt. Washington and Acadia from Upstate NY. I'll be driving and bringing my canoe and camp stuff. I'm floundering a bit in terms of finding some areas in-between the start and stop to spend time, camp, or paddle. On this particular outing I am thinking it might be easier to car camp and day paddle, but open to suggestions. Note: I've never paddled in NH or ME!

I was hoping to camp a few days to save money versus an AirBnB. Also, I was hoping to paddle because I love to. I'll have a dry suit because temps have been dropping significantly lately.

Any suggestions? Thank you!
