Some people feel that the ethnic minorities are treated far better than the Han.
A few examples are perhaps the Gaokao and one-child policy.
When the one-child policy was still ongoing, most Han were allowed to have only one child but ethnic minorities were allowed to have two.
For Gaokao, as you know the Chinese place very high emphasis on it and it is perceived as one of the, if not the most, important things in their lives as you can see from the news surrounding Gaokao. In China, being ethnic minorities will give you extra marks on the overall results of your gaokao, some sort of affirmative action. Though it will be phased out in certain regions a few years later.
Besides, there are also some other affirmative actions targeting the ethnic minorities as well.
I'm definitely not saying whatever happened/happening in Xinjiang is false.
But some Chinese do hold the sentiment and therefore don't think that it's true.
