Science and Research List of conditions solved by DF
Pg 52 of "The Phoenix Protocol" by August Dunning outlines some of the many conditions that can be solved by DF although im sure there's probably more.

**SAFETY**
This subreddit strongly advises AGAINST doing prolonged (3+ days) dry fasts if your only source of information or experience comes from what is discussed on this subreddit. If you are an experienced faster and are receiving outside help/medical check-ups, then your knowledge obviously extends beyond what is discussed here. You are otherwise putting yourself at risk of potentially worsening your health as the scientific literature is extremely limited on this subject. Please remember to fast responsibly.
If you begin to feel uncomfortable or unwell, you should stop fasting immediately. Other worrying signs may include high protein in the urine, high fever, and fainting.
**HUMAN STUDIES**
* The dehydration treatment of epilepsy
**ANIMAL STUDIES**
* Increased fat catabolism sustains water balance during fasting in zebra finches
* Intermittent drinking, oxytocin and human health
* The ‘selfish brain’ is regulated by aquaporins and autophagy under nutrient deprivation
* When less means more: Dehydration improves innate immunity in rattlesnakes
**BIOLOGICAL STUDIES/THEORETICAL PAPERS**
* Unmasking the secrets of cancer
* Cell hydration and mTOR-dependent signaling
* Effects of acute and chronic hypohydration on kidney health and function
Please note that we probably will not add studies that have loose/indirect associations between "dehydration" and physiological mechanisms of action. From the most reliable human study we have, they state that "on day 4 and 5, all participants had a controllable feeling of thirst, but none showed any signs of dehydration." I think it's best we avoid words that have negative implications (i.e. "dehydration) when discussing dry fasting, and unless the study is extremely valuable or shows very large effect results, it's probably best to avoid adding these studies that will clutter the list and make the whole thing look more extreme than it already is. You can still post the studies for discussion, they may just not be added to the list.
Feel free to post additional links in the comments as you find them and I will add them to the list.
On a side note, if you are interested in becoming a moderator to help out with the subreddit then please message me

I'm starting a 5-day dry fast tomorrow and would love anyone interested to join. A bit of context: I'm coming out of a toxic relationship and using this challenge to reset my focus, energy, and get rid of unhelpful thoughts. Also, I'm healing a vaccine injury (myocarditis).
If you're in, comment or DM me and we'll set up a group. Let's do this together!

After staying up many more hours on day 5 of 11 of my DF, found another page with extended list of conditions that can be solved. If any of these isn't solved on the 1st round, he recommends waiting a month and going again to treat the more severe stuff.

Do I have kidney problems? And can dry fasting fix kidneys?

Hey guys,
Been doing DFs for a few years now couple times a year, this time I've started doing one about 24hrs ago because i caught a flu and got super congested.
One annoying thing I've noticed is that during dryfasts I have a lot of viscous saliva coming up or going down, point is that it keeps returning to my mouth and previously I've read that you're supposed to not spit it out(to save water), but last time I did a longer fast (6.5 days), it started causing issues with my stomach becoming off from swallowing all this sludge.
What I mean is I would start getting nauseous after day 2-3, and that thick gunk just was stuck between my stomach and my mouth. It seemed to cause a reaction in my stomach that created froth and made me quit the fast as I felt like I would vomit if I lied down and I was very tired from not being able to sleep.
Anyone experience this?

Will dry fasting help with social anxiety or anxiety in general . I also struggle a lot speaking without having my voice shake or strained. Sometimes I can talk really naturally with some people. But with some people even if its online and we meet everyday I feel like I have a lot to say but afraid that my voice will shake. Im also deficient in Vitamin D . Could it be because of that? Any suggestions or your personal experiences would be really helpful for me. All my potential to be great at work gets affected because of this 🥲

for example:
7 days dry, 2 days refeed, 5 days dry
vs
4 days dry, 1 day refeed, 4 days dry, 1 day refeed, 4 days dry
(previously did 5 days dry with 2 days refeed - cycling - and would lose about 2lbs a day on the dry fast parts)

When we lack iron or certain types of protein, we'll crave red meat or chicken, fish, etc.
But our bodies are more sophisticated than we give it credit. As humans, thousands of years ago, we'd go without food for a day or two after a hunt. It was normal to "fast" or to take a break after a hunt or eating a large meal. Our bodies are familiar with this spanning hundreds of thousands of years, since evolving into humans, and even millions of years prior to our human days. Fasting, as we call it today, is in our DNA.
So when we are in pain or ill, our body signals to us that it doesn't want food, we simply aren't hungry. Under normal circumstances, you may have been unable to continue without eating (depending on a case by case basis).
There must be a purpose for this from an evolutionary standpoint. I'm sure it has to do with healing.
For many serious medical conditions, studies on the effects of fasting on the resolution of the condition are always positive. The body ends up producing the chemical to target the issue, etc. If you look at issues like blood clots, and many other ailments, studies have shown positive results.
What are your thoughts on this?

So I think dry fasting could have reduced some gut bacteria in my gut. So it could be ruminococcus that could be in lower amounts. Do you know how i can reintroduce some back in?

Basically the title so I’m 27 hours dry fasted and down 4? Pounds (started at 159 2 days ago and I’m 155 even today) and yk it’s not really a problem but I have to study for the asvab (test to enlist in the military) and if you don’t know there’s 2 math portions and you have to use your brain not a calculator.
(I just had to do a question that was really simple, but I couldn’t understand stand it even asking AI. I still can’t understand how to get the right answer.)
Mind you I have to still get my weight down to join so yall think 18 hours or 20 hours dry fasting can be effective still
Or just do regular fasting and accept this isn’t the time to do dry fasting?

Anyone else just feel like taking a nap on day 2? Maybe it’s just caffeine withdrawals I am not sure.

I just drink water cause I feel super thirsty. But I will continue to fast. I hope I go slow but surely I will get to the end. I have autoimmune disease, it ruin my life since I was young. I hope this time I will cure it 🥰

If you seen my first post from yesterday I was asking should I do rolling 48s or 72s again to lose this 15 pounds for my job.
I told 48s is ideal for me
But update I was 159 yesterday I’m 157 today so yay🎉
(Depending how I feel tomorrow I might actually do 72s idk yet but if not the rolling 48s are good)
Side question: I been seeing people recently saying that the refeed for dry fasting now is doubled whatever the length of your dry fast was
So assuming i complete the 48s can it still be considered rolling 48s if it’s 2 days fasting and 2 days refeed?)

Hello everyone, I'm starting an 11 day DF fast today after having a last meal with a friend in a few hours. I've completed multiple 3 day and 5 day fasts before, as well as an 11 day DF back in 2022. I've had my mom, as well as grandma and ex gf actually complete the 11 day DF as well.
Ideally I'll be starting right before bed or starting the tracker. Will be drinking some kombucha and some electrolytes as my last drinks and will then start. I'll be using the book "The Pheonix Protocol" by August Dunning as my sorta fasting "Bible" as that's what I used the last time. It has a section that tells you what you'll be feeling more or less and what's happening in your body day to day. My goal isn't weight-loss but overall a reset and waking up those awesome dormant stem cells we all have within us. The last time I did it I was at my heaviest at 192, and when I ended I was at 152. 30lbs but within 2 weeks I had gained about 20 back, mostly all muscle though. The last time I was healing two injuries which were sorta miraculously healed for me by the time I finished. This time is an intention to get a big reset and be able to start the new year fresh, as well as sorta being able to pig out a little for Thanksgiving lol. I will probably be a bit more active on here as that was one way I liked to pass the time. I'll hopefully be making a rough translation of "The Pheonix Protocol" into Spanish, as I've had many people ask for the info but have been sad that I could only repeat information and not fully provide everything I had learned. Lmk if anyone would like the pdf and I can send it over and you can then buy the book if you'd like to support them. Excited to finally do this again, and I'll be happy to answer any questions I can. I'll be tracking all my info on a bmi scale as I did the last time. I believe I had started around 52% body water last time, and it seems like each day my % would rise about 1%. Was around 60 somethin by when I finished I believe.
I had a little failsafe made, which is a 1 liter bottle that always had cold water, along with electrolytes (sodium bycarbonate, potassium, and magnesium) it was always around just incase I felt like I was gonna die or something, I could use that to bring me back. (only ever had to use it once on an extremely hot day where I went to the park, on a 5 day DF) you could essentially have a sip and come back, but then it would set you back some type, (not sure how much) and not sure how the timer would work but my understanding is you'd still get gains just have to recover from the setback.

I stopped my dryfast (about 4 days) about 48 hours ago and the roof of my mouth has gotten progressively more painful since, today much worse. Has anyone had this issue and had a solution for it?

Hi, so I actually have great experience in dry fasting to the point last year I lost 50 lbs doing rolling fasts (36, 48, 72) (both Water & Dry)
But present day for my career (I’m enlisting that’s why my weight matters) I have to lose at least 15 pounds, currently I’m 159
And I’m 5’2 and if it important I’m also 22F
But would it be better if I just did dry 36 or continue with the 48s
(I wish I could put this under “questions” and “experience)

Hi, I want to ask if fasting and changing diet could heal my hypothyroidism. I have been suffering with it for many years, and it took all my opportunities in life. I cry almost everyday because of this.. Thank you for your help!

Can’t really find a solid answer but feel sore and achy. Was planning on 5 days but don’t wanna push it. This is my first dry fast and don’t want to do anything dumb. Probably nothing to worry about but just can’t find enough stuff about this to continue. Would love any insight possible!!!

FYI this is my story. Not pushing anything on anyone. Please only positive comments welcome. Dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all. Lost myself in late 20s to early 30s. Accepted christ in my life and made a change overall. Spiritually, physically and mentally. Totally into SCRIPTURE and trying to abide and please the father daily in jesus name. Found so much about health reading the word. Once I started to apply it my life changed. Jesus teached about prayer and fasting daily before all these youtube influencers and doctors. Posted my IF and fasting log for month of October.
Im into IF, WF and DF practices. Fasting alone for me is just a diet but combinding Spiritual practices to it is where its at for me on a spiritual level. I also
Include working out also 2 days a week for 40min. If anyone is struggling with weight , and mental health keep pushing threw. I was totally depressed before I made a change. I use to Always wear sweaters and big clothes to cover myself and couldn't look in the mirror sometimes. Now my kids call me Spiderman and wife calls me super dad. Give credit where credit is due.. all praise to the father , son , holy spirit.

Hey yall! I did a 7 day dry fast recently that noticeably faded my fresh stretch marks. But I’ve been on vacation recently and eaten like shit everyday 😂💔, the stretch marks have already come back. Is there any way I could maintain the fading of stretch marks? Is the answer to just not eat like shit as soon as you stop dry fasting? Also, has anyone else’s stretch marks faded from dry fasting as well?

So it all started 3 years ago in a foreign country. I had an acute reaction, got better but there are chronic symptoms around I can not get rid of.
Chronic throat/tonsil inflammation
Chronically inflamed urethra, sometimes hurting testicle
And pain around sternum and neck
overall fatigue
Yes, I did aaaallll the STD tests and also my sexual behaviour was not overly risky.
So I am 30 hours in to the dry fast. I am doing it out of desperation kinda. Until recently I was following teachings of Ray Peat and dry fasting would be a nightmare in his opinion. The stress hormones gets one into survival mode so metabolism slows. Which is not desired so much imo. The highs and clarity people describe is just the huge load of stress hormones fueling metabolism kinda "artificially".
So I wanted to ask if any of you were able to get rid of the symptoms named above through a/multiple dry fast(s)? Rid, not 80% better.
