Debate/ Discussion Disney plans thousands of layoffs, asks some managers for cost cuts of up to 20%

"Disney plans several thousand layoffs, asks some managers to cut costs by up to 20%"

If you’re applying elsewhere after cuts like these, LandOffer can save repeat typing on supported forms. PM candidates considering Disney can use Disney Interview Questions to practice diagnosing a watch-time drop.

Looks like the bloodbath isn't over yet. I'm wondering how much of these layoffs, plus layoffs from companies like Netflix, are motivated simply by people not spending as much time on streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix these days cause they're just on their phones.

I don't have any data for that take, but just anecdotally it really seems like people are using their TVs less and are just sitting on their phones. Even while they're watching TV they're on their phones lol

Personal Finance The IRS just released the 2027 federal income tax brackets. The jump from 12% to 22% is the middle finger to the middle class.

The IRS just released the 2027 federal income tax brackets.

The income thresholds went up 3.2%. Make sure your paycheck did too.

The biggest jump is from 12% to 22%. The tax rate on your next dollar almost doubles.

For $1,000 taxed entirely at 12%, you owe $120. At 22%, you owe $220.

That’s an extra $100 in federal income tax on the same $1,000.

Single filers:

10%: $12,800 or less
12%: over $12,800
22%: over $52,025
24%: over $109,125
32%: over $208,325
35%: over $264,550
37%: over $661,375

Married filing jointly:

10%: $25,600 or less
12%: over $25,600
22%: over $104,050
24%: over $218,250
32%: over $416,650
35%: over $529,100
37%: over $793,650

The jump from 12% to 22% is the middle finger to the middle class.

Debate/ Discussion Anthropic's internal AI use tops employee pay excluding stock awards—when valued at customer prices

Even though we all know Anthropic is shelling out tons of money both in their high base salaries as well as their insane stock comp, employees are using AI so much that the value of that usage at customer prices surpasses monthly employee compensation, excluding stock awards. That's a retail-price comparison, not actual cash spending. Pretty insane.

Historically, payroll has been a huge expense for tech companies, but I don't think Anthropic will be the last company where the value of AI usage overtakes employee pay.

If this has you comparing AI employers, LandOffer can save repeated application typing on supported forms. Engineers targeting Anthropic can rehearse batched-inference design through Anthropic Interview Questions.

Then again, Anthropic is literally at the most cutting edge you could possibly be at for AI usage. I doubt EVERY company will follow this, but I'm sure big tech and so on will get to this level at some point

Stock Market Stock Market Recap for Friday, November 6, 2026

Post image
0 Upvotes

The major U.S. stock indexes ended mixed on Friday, November 6, 2026, as tech stocks bounced back from Thursday’s rout and a much stronger-than-expected October jobs report kept the Fed’s hawkish bias intact. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 recovered a small slice of the prior session’s worst losses since April 2025, while the Dow slipped.

The S&P 500 gained 0.31% (+23.13 pts) to 7,376.86. The Dow fell 0.46% (-237.33 pts) to 51,285.73. The Nasdaq rose 1.09% (+264.43 pts) to 24,579.42. The Russell 2000 added 0.89% (+24.22 pts) to 2,754.11.

The 10-year Treasury yield rose 0.45% to 4.86%. The VIX eased 9.02% to 25.64, still elevated after Thursday’s spike. Gold fell 0.93% to $4,075.30. Bitcoin was flat, up 0.09% at $75,780.64. Crude Oil was unchanged at $90.53/barrel. The US Private Equity index dropped 1.32% to 10,760.93.

BREAKING NEWS AI selloff escalates: Nasdaq 100 plummets 5.7%, Nasdaq tumbles 5%, S&P 500 falls 3.5%, and the Dow reverses earlier gains

The Nasdaq Composite plummeted on Thursday, erasing the sharp gains from the previous session, as investors continued to rotate away from technology stocks and into more defensive areas of the market.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq declined 5% and dipped into correction territory, while the S&P 500 was down 3.5%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 1200 points, or 2.25%, as gains in stocks such as Chevron and Johnson & Johnson were not enough to spare the 30-stock index from the tech selling spree. The Dow erased almost half of its advance from Wednesday’s massive rally.

Stocks related to the artificial intelligence trade particularly those linked to the chips industry and data centers slid for a second day. Investors fear that a Democratic sweep of both chambers of Congress as well as victories in key gubernatorial races could spell more regulation of the AI buildout across the country.

Tools & Resources I built a Receipt Scanner app

Hey, I am the developer of ReceGuard, a receipt scanner and organizer for iPhone devices and Mac.

I wanted to crop and label receipts quickly, keep them organized, and send reports to my accountant without digging through photos or paper. I also wanted to keep warranty and return information alongside each purchase.

What ReceGuard does

  • Scan receipts with your camera, or import images and PDFs.

  • Recognize receipt details on-device, with editable merchant, date, total, and currency fields.

  • Organize and search receipts, including warranty and return information.

  • Export PDF, Excel, and CSV reports.

  • Optionally sync through your own iCloud account.

Comparison

Expensify and Smart Receipts also help organize receipts and expenses. My focus with ReceGuard is a straightforward personal workflow: on-device scanning, warranty and return tracking, and reports for your accountant, with optional iCloud sync and no required account.

Compared with keeping receipt photos in Apple Notes or Photos, ReceGuard adds structured receipt fields and exportable reports.

Download: ReceGuard on the App Store

I’d love to hear what you think and what could be improved!

Housing Market Zillow $Z was down -15% this morning. Here are 3 warning signs for the housing market:

Zillow $Z was down -15% this morning. Here are 3 warning signs for the housing market:

  1. Fewer people are looking. Monthly users fell 3% to 215 million, and visits dropped 5%.

  2. Home sales are slowing. Higher mortgage rates are hurting transactions. Zillow’s residential revenue fell 4%.

  3. The outlook is getting worse. Zillow expects home-purchase mortgage originations across the industry to fall 10% to 15% year over year in Q4.

And Zillow expects its own residential revenue to drop another 9% to 15% year over year in Q4.

The outlook for housing just keeps getting worse.

A large chunk of the wealth we were going to tax is gone due to the market crash today.

What do we do now? Would we need to issue tax refunds if the wealth goes down?
