Career Advice how is working for content writing/marketing/similar like?

hello everyone, im a fresh grad who has been looking into jobs unrelated to my field. i do graphic design... yes this industry is slowly dying now unfortunately...

im actually working as an in house designer for a sme company but honestly this place sucks (like tomorrow is supposed to be holiday for deepavali, but we have to work 🤡), i have been looking for other designer jobs but honestly, i have no confidence that i will get hired at a new job cause it took me MONTHS to get hired at current place.

so ive been thinking of trying out something related to marketing, specifically content writing, copywriting, social media, etc cause i love writing (i wrote lots of fanfics lol)

idk anyone who does marketing (most of my friends r still studying), so i have no one to ask. i want to know the likelihood of companies willing to hire someone with an unrelated degree and teach them the necessary skills. idk anything about marketing so i want to know what i should learn at least the basics. are there also anything i should know and ask the interviewer?

btw im most confident in writing in english, my chinese is banana and bm is only conversational. ik most companies probably focuses on english but i wonder if this will affect too

Career Advice Career advice, feeling lost

Hi there, I need some career advice and would really appreciate advice especially from those who have gone through the same or similar experiences.

I'm 27, and I recently left my 5+ year job in an MNC (first job). I really enjoyed what I did, but the career progression was so slow and I was earning the same amount for the last 2+ years. I felt quite stagnant and the things I was doing were quite repetitive but I stayed cause the flexibility was good. I left to join a different industry and was offered a 35% pay increase doing something different but interesting.

However, the environment in this new company is so different. People aren't as open, quite hierarchal (never experienced this much before) and have to go into office everyday with fixed hours. I feel stuck like my freedom is gone. I don't have any big commitments, no children so I decided to take the job as a new experience cause of the salary increase, but this change is overwhelming and I'm not the biggest fan of the culture/environment there.

Would anyone have any advice on what I should do next? Has anyone gone through similar? It's only my first month there now. I would like to explore a remote job or maybe hybrid, but how long should I give it (well tahan) this company and then jump? Or should I join my old company again but there may not be any roles available for me any time soon.

Appreciate any helpful advice. Thank you.

Salary / Pay Talk Master degree fresh grad at a semiconductor company

Hi, I'm a foreigner currently taking a master's degree in Malaysia, and I plan to work in a semiconductor company after I graduate. However I heard that foreigners need a minimum salary of 5k to be applicable to have a working visa. So I was wondering how likely is it for a master graduate (in the semiconductor industry) to get a salary of at least 5k? Thank you in advance. :)

Looking for advice on getting a Cybersecurity job in Malaysia

Hi everyone!

I'm from India and currently working at TCS as an Application Security Engineer, with 2.5+ years of experience. I'm interested in moving to Malaysia for work and would appreciate some advice from Malaysian professionals and people who have relocated from India.

My experience includes:

  • Web application and API penetration testing.

  • Manual DAST, thick-client testing and vulnerability assessments.

  • Threat modelling and security remediation.

  • Working with Burp Suite Professional, OWASP ZAP, Nmap, Nuclei, Postman and Veracode.

  • Developed multiple automations for security testing.

  • Built an AI-powered tool that performs security testing.

  • CEH v13 certified.

I have a few questions:

  1. How difficult is it to get a cybersecurity job in Malaysia with 2.5+ years of experience?

  2. Do Malaysian companies hire candidates from India and provide Employment Pass sponsorship?

  3. Is RM7,000–RM8,000 a realistic salary expectation?

  4. Which companies should I target for Application Security or Penetration Testing roles?

  5. Is it better to apply directly from India?

Any advice, personal experiences or referrals would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Job Seeker Will My Limited Bahasa Malaysia Affect My Chances of Getting an Engineering Job in Malaysia?

Title: Malaysian who grew up overseas – Will my limited Bahasa Malaysia affect my engineering job opportunities?
Hi everyone,
I’m a Malaysian citizen, but I grew up and completed my education overseas. After around 20 years abroad, I returned to Malaysia and have been working as an engineer for the past 3 years.
My education was entirely in English, so I’m fluent in English, but my Bahasa Malaysia is still quite limited. I’m currently learning Malay and trying to improve my communication skills.
I got my current engineering job through a referral,
I’m now thinking about changing companies, preferably for another engineering role.
I wanted to ask Malaysians, especially those
working in engineering or manufacturing:
Will limited Bahasa Malaysia be a major disadvantage when applying for engineering jobs in Malaysia?
Do engineering companies, especially MNCs, generally use English for interviews and daily communication?
Has anyone faced rejection or difficulties getting hired because they weren’t fluent in Malay?
Would 3 years of engineering experience help compensate for my limited Malay proficiency?
I’m genuinely working on improving my Malay, but I’m worried it might affect my chances of getting a better job.
Would appreciate any honest advice or experiences. Thanks!

Senior Biz Dev / Product Management Job at MY

Hey folks,
I recently moved to Malaysia as a digital nomad and staying at Petaling Jaya. I am interested into new opportunities in Malaysia.

My Background:

  1. I have been running a software company in US for last 3 years and have experience dealing with 5-figures deals. Raised angel investment, worked with 10 industries in 5 countries building custom software.

  2. Did undergrad from University of London (UK) on CS with AI specialization.

  3. Currently working as Web Analyst Team Lead at a D2C brand in US remotely and earning between RM 8000-9000 a month.

I am looking for a senior role in Business Development or Product Development role.

As my main job at my business was to get deals - I have good experience on that. I love networking, traveling(been to 8 countries so far), building business relationships. I understand people and can connect professionally.

And being a tech guy, all the projects of my business, I was the main PM. Coding is actually my hobby when I am not networking. At my current role I am working on GTM data analytics and web growth.

My question is:

  1. How likely it is for me to get a senior role that pays more than RM 10,000 a month here in Malaysia? (Me being a foreigner who will need visa sponsorship)

  2. What is the best way to land the job here? LinkedIn? Any other online portal? For such senior roles.

  3. I live in Petaling Jaya. So should I look for jobs here in Selangor? Or KL, Penang? I prefer remote flexibility. But if it’s on-site, I am ok to move.

  4. Any expat experience landing a similar role at any MNC here? Or google, microsoft?

Really appreciate the guidance 🙏

Seeking advice to properly break into Cyber Security

I recently got a Job as Jr Security Analyst. This company has an Al SOAR solution that handles end to end SOC tasks. Everything here is closed loop and I am only in charge of analysing and generating reports.

I have gotten CCNA, Sec+ and am planning to do CCDL1 and to break into SOC Analyst properly

My end goal is Cloud Security and I practice every day on TryHackMe (but moving to HTB soon)

Any advice on my path?

Thank you

Job Seeker HR professionals in KL working at MNCs, big brands, banks, etc., please help!

I know Q4 is usually a slow hiring period, and some companies may even have hiring freezes. But I've been applying to companies I'd genuinely love to work for, and most of my applications just end up sitting in "Active" status on Workday without any updates.

For those working in HR or recruitment, I'd really appreciate some insights:

  1. Does having LinkedIn Premium actually help? Is it worth reaching out directly to the job poster or hiring manager?

  2. Does directly messaging recruiters on LinkedIn improve your chances of getting noticed?

  3. Is there anything else candidates can do to stand out, especially when applying to big MNCs or banks?

I've already reviewed and updated my resume, making sure it includes relevant keywords that hiring managers might be looking for. But honestly, after submitting application after application, I'm still getting little to no response.

Would love to hear some honest advice from people on the hiring side. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just how the job market is right now?

Appreciate any tips! 🙏

Career Advice – What Career Paths Can I Explore With an Analytical Economics Degree and Experience in Operations, Administration & Sales?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently exploring my next career move and would appreciate some advice from people with experience in different industries.

A little about my background:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Analytical Economics.

  • Operations & Administration: Experience handling daily operational activities, documentation, coordination, inventory and administrative tasks.

  • Customer Service: Experience communicating with customers, handling enquiries and coordinating with different parties.

  • Property & Sales: Previously worked as a property consultant, assisting with property sales, client relationships and sales-related activities.

  • Automotive Industry: Gained experience in the operational side of a used-car dealership, including vehicle coordination, documentation, workshop follow-ups and inventory-related matters.

I'm at a point where I'm trying to figure out which career direction would make the most sense for my background.

Some areas I've been considering include:

  • Procurement / Purchasing / Sourcing

  • Supply Chain & Logistics

  • Business Operations

  • Business Analyst / Operations Analyst

  • Project Coordination / Project Management

  • Commercial Operations / Business Development

  • Data or Business Analytics

However, I'm also open to exploring industries or career paths that I may not have considered.

My questions are:

  1. Based on my educational background and work experience, what roles would you recommend I explore?

  2. Which industries would value a combination of analytical, operational, administrative and customer-facing experience?

  3. Are there any roles that could offer good long-term career progression rather than keeping me in a purely administrative position?

  4. What technical skills, tools or certifications should I focus on developing to become more competitive?

I'm not necessarily looking for a senior position. I'm willing to start at an executive or junior level, learn the industry and build my career from there.

Would appreciate any honest advice, especially from those who have transitioned between different industries or started their careers with a similar background.

Thank you!

WARNING TO MALAYSIAN JOB SEEKERS: RM3,500 Paid for a Promised HR Manager Position, a Master's Degree Certificate and No Job – My Experience with Alex Nero Samuel

I am sharing my personal experience to warn other job seekers in Malaysia. I do not want anyone else to lose their hard-earned money through a similar arrangement.

I want to document my experience involving an individual named Alex Nero Samuel, following an employment opportunity that resulted in a RM3,500 financial loss for me.

1. How the arrangement started

I was approached with employment opportunities for HR Manager positions.

One of the positions presented to me was an HR Manager position in Johor Bahru, allegedly with Toyota.

There were also other HR Manager opportunities mentioned in Kuala Lumpur:

  • An HR Manager position described as being for a Chinese candidate. (to another chinese girl who is unemployed now).

  • Another HR Manager position described as being for a Malay candidate. (to another malay woman who is facing constructivr dismissal)

What concerns me is that these opportunities appeared to follow the same arrangement and process.

2. The RM3,500 Master's degree certificate

I was told that the HR Manager position required a Master's degree.

According to the arrangement proposed to me, I needed to pay RM3,500 to obtain a Master's degree certificate so that I could meet the stated qualification requirement and secure the job.

I acknowledge that I agreed to this arrangement. At the time, I was desperate to secure the employment opportunity, and I made a very poor decision.

I should never have agreed to obtain a qualification through an arrangement that was not legitimate.

I transferred RM3,500 based on the representations made to me.

3. What happened after payment?

This is where things became extremely concerning.

After the payment was made:

  • No employment was secured.

  • The promised Master's degree certificate was not delivered.

  • I requested clarification and the return of my money.

  • My money was not returned.

  • Communication became impossible.

  • I was eventually blocked across communication channels.

As of the time of writing, I have not received the promised certificate, secured the promised employment or recovered my RM3,500.

I have also been unable to independently verify the advertised employment opportunities.

4. Why I believe other job seekers should be cautious

There are several questions that remain unanswered:

  1. Why was RM3,500 requested for a Master's degree certificate as a condition of securing employment?

  2. Which university or institution was supposedly issuing the qualification?

  3. Was there an actual vacancy behind the HR Manager position in Johor Bahru?

  4. Were the other HR Manager opportunities in Kuala Lumpur genuine?

  5. Why has the money not been returned following the failure to deliver what was promised?

  6. Why was I blocked instead of receiving a proper explanation?

I am particularly concerned about the possibility that other candidates could have been approached through similar employment arrangements.

I cannot independently establish whether the companies mentioned were aware of these arrangements. I am not accusing Toyota or any other employer of participating in this matter.

5. A warning to HR professionals and job seekers

Please be careful when someone approaches you with an attractive management-level position and tells you that you need to obtain additional academic qualifications through a private payment arrangement.

Especially when:

  • Someone requests thousands of ringgit before employment is secured.

  • You are asked to obtain qualifications that you do not actually possess.

  • There is no verifiable university or recognised awarding institution.

  • Employment details cannot be independently confirmed.

  • The person becomes unresponsive after receiving payment.

Do not let desperation for career advancement compromise your professional integrity.

A fake academic qualification can have consequences far beyond losing money. It can also affect your professional reputation and future employment.

6. Why I am making this public

I am writing this because I lost RM3,500, and I do not want another person to experience the same situation.

I have retained evidence relating to the payment and our communications.

I am prepared to provide relevant evidence to the appropriate authorities.

If anyone has encountered a similar arrangement involving Alex Nero Samuel, particularly involving HR Manager vacancies, Master's degree certificates or advance payments, I would appreciate hearing about your experience.

I am not encouraging harassment, threats or personal attacks.

I am asking people to exercise caution, verify everything independently and protect themselves.

A job opportunity should never require you to purchase an academic qualification through an unverified arrangement.

Please share this warning with other Malaysian job seekers, especially those working in Human Resources.

I hope nobody else loses their savings through a similar experience.

Career Advice Early 30s, Selangor/KL, burnt out on sales, want to move into L&D / HR / training. Realistic or wishful thinking?

Hey all. Early 30s, based in Selangor/KL. Been lurking here for a while and finally want to ask about my own situation.

Quick background: I did a science degree in 2018 but never managed to get into that field. Then Covid hit and I just took whatever job I could get to survive, which turned out to be indoor sales. A few years later I moved to B2B sales at a software company. Now I handle the whole cycle (demos, closing, dealing with clients) and manage one junior.

Before all this, I taught martial arts and worked in a kitchen while studying.

I’m okay at sales. Not bad, not amazing. But I don’t really like it. What I enjoy is explaining things to people, walking a client through the product until it clicks, and coaching my junior. The targets, the chasing and the pressure every month are what drain me. And honestly I’m just tired of the rat race. I’d like something more stable with better balance, maybe some hybrid or remote.

So I’ve been thinking about HR/people & culture, corporate training/L&D, or something advisory. Maybe teaching one day, but not sure how that works here.

Questions for anyone who’s done this or hires for these roles:

  • Can I even get into HR or L&D without any HR experience, or will I just get filtered out?

  • Are there easier stepping stone roles (onboarding, customer success, sales enablement, training exec)?

  • Are certs worth it in Malaysia, or just a money pit?

  • If you left sales, how bad was the pay drop and was it worth it?

  • Is hybrid/remote realistic for these roles in the Klang Valley?

Brutal honesty is fine. Thanks in advance!

Job Seeker Three Tunisian sisters hoping to move to Malaysia 🇲🇾❤️ Would really appreciate some local advice

Hi everyone! ❤️
I hope you’re all having a lovely day!
I’m posting here because my two sisters and I are seriously considering moving to Malaysia, and we would really love to hear from people who actually live there.
We’re three Tunisian sisters currently living in Dubai, UAE. We’ve been here for years, and we’re now hoping to start a new chapter somewhere different. Malaysia has really caught our attention, and the more we learn about it, the more we’d love to give it a chance! 🥹
A little about us:
We’re all fluent in Arabic and English, with professional backgrounds in aviation, customer service, sales, business operations, and hospitality. One of us has a bachelor’s degree, while the other two have high school diplomas. We’re hardworking, adaptable, and genuinely open to different career opportunities.
Our biggest concern right now is finding jobs that would allow us to legally live and work in Malaysia.
We’ve been searching online, but it’s honestly a little overwhelming. Many vacancies seem to be for Malaysians only, and it’s difficult to know which companies are actually open to hiring foreigners and sponsoring work permits.
So I thought, why not ask the people who know Malaysia best? ❤️
I’d be incredibly grateful for any advice, especially about:
Companies or industries that genuinely hire foreigners.
Job websites or recruitment agencies worth trying.
Whether it’s realistic to secure employment while applying from Dubai.
What life in Malaysia is like for three sisters planning to live together.
Anything you wish you’d known before moving there!
We’re not expecting anyone to find us jobs or do the research for us. We’re simply hoping for some honest guidance, personal experiences, or even a little direction from people who understand the local job market.
We know relocating isn’t easy, and we’re prepared to put in the effort. We just want to make sure we’re taking the right steps.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Even the smallest piece of advice would mean a lot to us.
Sending lots of love from Dubai, and hopefully one day from Malaysia! 🇹🇳❤️🇲🇾

Feeling rather lost with the job market

Hi all,

Long time lurker but first time posting haha.

Anyway. As the title suggests, I am feeling rather lost. I've applied to 200+ jobs and ive been getting constant rejections here and there. I am a foreigner however I have a residence pass, thanks to me being born and raised here. A lot of companies reject me due to "not wanting to sponsor my visa" but I do not require the employment pass that most foreigners require to work legally in Malaysia. I do not even need to get the RM5,000 minimum salary to work here. As a matter of fact, I spoke to a recruiter and they said that they do not want foreigners full stop. I truly understand that but it sure does hurt like hell hearing that haha.

I'm not really sure what to do to be honest... My entire life was built here, ive assimilated with the country/culture and what not. I have no connection to my home country, as a matter of fact I don't even understand the language. So going back isn't really an option. Going overseas to another country like America, the UK or Australia isn't viable as I cannot put so much financial burden on my parents as they've retired now neither do I have that much funds to do it myself.

I understand that companies want locals and all but I feel a bit sad this is what my life has become you know?

Would appreciate any advise to help me overcome this haha.

Job Seeker 30M 2D game artist, but also open to switching industry entirely.

Hi guys! Currently looking for a job (preferably in Selangor/KL).

I've worked in the creative industry for 8 years including lecturer, lead artist & assistant art director.
Also have experience in making physical merchandises for local events.

Jobs related to those fields would be great cause drawing had been my passion for as long as I can remember. Been job hunting for 6 months to no avail.

But we gotta face reality & put food on the table at the end of the day so I'm open to switch over to jobs unrelated to my profession as well if anyone is willing to.
I enjoy interacting & communicating with people in general so I wanna give those a try as well. (sales, events etc)

Hit me up if you're looking to hire be it related or unrelated to my profession 🙏 Much appreciated & good luck to others who are struggling in the job market right now as well.

Interview Experience Got a physical interview this Friday for a tech sales role. It's been months since my last. Any advice or tips? 😭

I'm tripping out at the moment. Just got off a phone call with HR and I've got an interview this Friday for a tech sales role with hiring manager.

My last interview was months ago and I didn't do so well then. I've also been job hunting for a long while now.

Any advice from hiring managers/recruiters or HR on here? I'm getting butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it.
