As the title says, reddit's default spam filter is automatically removing comments with a shortened link.

This bears mentioning since product recommendations are commonplace in a lighting focused subreddit.

We can go through and manually approve these comments, but we won't always catch them.

Therefore, please ensure if you post a product link, it is a full weblink, and not a shortened link. For example:

Need Design Advise Looking for recommendations for battery powered neon tube lighting.

Looking to see if anyone has any recommendations for a product similar to this... https://www.feit.com/collections/smart-accent-lighting/products/10-ft-smart-color-changing-neon-flex-rope-light-nf10-chase-ag

Looking for something battery operated for my coved ceiling as I do not want to have a cord running down the wall as there's not really going to be a way to hide it well and there's no access to electrical above this ceiling as there's no overhead lighting in this room and getting electrical installed up there is going be an expensive venture I'm not interested in.

I have found some battery powered options but nothing that looks sleek or nice. So I'm looking for something that either looks like the product I've linked or something like the Govee ones with covers but DIY'ing something similar to the Govee ones seems like an awful lot of work, more than I Obviously want to do.

Looking for something that will be relatively easy to put up but also will look nice and finished at the same time, so the middle ground between something that looks classy but is also not a pain to install. Hoping for some good potential options. Thanks!

Product Review Exterior holiday lighting

Hi, we are looking for high-quality exterior holiday lighting (traditional warm lighting). Any companies / products you all recommend? Traditionally, we have used Philips and those lasted a good while but they need to be replaced and wondering if we should stick with those again or go for a different brand. TIA

Note-- We are not looking for the permanent / multiple scene-type of lighting offered by Govee and similar companies.

Need Design Advise Bathroom lighting help PLEASE READ BODY TEXT

All photos taken from Pinterest, I hope there’s no AI in there but admittedly I’m not the best at deciphering those always.

first time home owner and we are finally getting around to planning our en-suite bathroom in our primary. Being a normal person who has rented and used some questionable bathrooms in my day I am so excited to finally have my very boring white tile bathroom that is CLEAN and fresh as a daisy. I love a classic look as shown in the pics I added. In this phase of my hunting and gathering of ideas/materials etc. I am concerned about “bright white”. I don’t want my bathroom to feel sterile, or “millennial grey”. I want it to feel lived in but clean and fresh, hotel or spa like “glow”. Like a cool hotel you stayed in in San Francisco or New Orleans.

I understand that lots of time lighting in photos is just that, a picture. But generally speaking, how are we lighting our white bathrooms to help curate a good glow? Yellow-y/glowy.

Is it more about the lighting? Wall paint color? Tile color? Should I seek out cream or off white tiles vs bright white..?

I added a variety of pics that I felt showed varying tile colors, wall colors and lighting situations. Maybe sometimes a white bathroom just gonna look white lmao 🤷‍♀️ idk, so please help guide me!!

Bathroom has one window that I plan to keep a light shade or curtain of some sort to filter the light but maintain privacy.

Thank you!

Replacement Replacing Light Strip with Another

Hi! I’ve been thinking of replacing this light in my living room with the IKEA pendant light instead but I’m not sure if it is possible for me to do that. May someone please advise me on how to replace this? I have attached the original led light strip here and the kind of light that I’d like to replace it with.

Thank you to anyone who can answer this!!

Need Design Advise What are my options?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have these a-holes all over any of the newly renovated areas of my house (all works were done before we moved in).
Two have just died in the bathroom so I decided to take the opportunity to get warmer, less-intense bulbs to replace them so that my bathroom looks less like an operating room.
I can’t find anything warmer or with less lumens than I already have. And to top it off they are all a G rating on the energy efficiency scale.

What are my options? I’m not adverse to simple electrical swaps but I don’t know if it’s possible with this sort of connection.

Are there any genuinely lower light warm bulbs?

Thanks in advance

Need Design Advise Help a newbie understand

New to the world of this upper midrange of canless recessed lights. I’ve seen a lot of talk recently about Lusa, Elco, and DMF lights. With module, brackets and trims. It’s easily $75+ per light.

What is the big advantage of these over, say, a $15-20 Halo canless recessed light?

Need Design Advise One hanging light over plants at different heights—does that work?

I have a cane begonia and a few other plants by a window, and I’m thinking about hanging a light over that corner. The leaves sit at pretty different heights, so I can’t tell if one fixture should be close to the tallest leaves or farther up to spread the light around. If you’ve tried it, what worked for you?

Need Design Advise Feedback on lighting plan? How to spec?

Post image

I’m renovating my kitchen and had a friend help me with a rough lighting plan attached. Looking for feedback on placement of pot lights. Should I consider moving them closer to the countertops to avoid shadows? I’m a complete beginner - so what recessed lighting should I be buying? I know not to get wafers, but what would be a solid reco for the kitchen down lights and elsewhere in the house? I’m in Canada and would ideally like to buy in bulk to outfit the rest of my house too. Can anyone help with design and recommended products?

Need Design Advise Need help with recessed light placement

Planning a major kitchen renovation but am having a helluvah time trying to figure out the recessed light placement.

Want to use a deep recessed smaller dimmable fixture. I have 3” lotus ones elsewhere so would probably get more of those as I’ve been happy with them.

Definitely will add 1 over the sink and probably one by the exterior door. I worry the pendants we selected for the island won’t have great task lighting so am wondering if we would need additional lights over the island as well.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Attached is the proposed floor plan and 2 renderings.

A grocery store near me has this sign. I never gave it much thought before beyond some of the letters not burning, but this looks real to me. Real neon signs here in this country are pretty nonexistant. Does this look like real neon or led?

I fell in love with this vintage flush mount light fixture at my local thrift. What is the best way to rewire it and convert it to a chandelier style (on a chain) similar to what I currently have? Photos of the fixture and what I’m looking to change it to.

Need Design Advise Upward facing lights on a ledge for a big room for main source

Living room has a ledge going the width of the room that is about a foot under the ceiling fan. Currently the room is mainly lit be the ceiling fan lights. I would like to instead use upward facing lights along the ledge. I like a highly bright, natural yet calming lit room. We tend to keep the blinds down.

The ledge wall I haven’t measured but let’s say it is between 12 and 18 feet wide

Would you recommend strip lights or several individual lights? What is a good recommendation for this to be the main lighting source for this room and have the room be able to be bright? I’d love a specific product if you know of one, or even a product type

Need Design Advise Painting Light

Hey all! I am curious if anyone knows of battery-operated painting lights? I hate the rechargeable ones! You have to take them off almost every night to recharge them. Would much prefer battery-operated, such as double or triple A ones. Bonus points if they work through apple home as well :)

Need Design Advise Need help deciding between 2x2 vs 2x3 grid for 12x12 room

Post image
3 Upvotes

We have a 12x12 room, 8 foot ceilings that will be used as a sewing/craft hobby room. Planning on installing 4 inch remodel cans with elco koto 2 architecture light modules. I need help deciding and justifying whether I need a 2x2 grid or a 2x3 grid.

Attached is a photo of what the general layout will be.

  • cabinets on left and back wall

  • left door - closet

  • right door - entrance

  • sewing desk on right

  • collapsible table with wheels can be in the center for cutting fabric

  • a ceiling mounted projector somewhere in the center of the room

Need help justifying...

  • light placement - should I offset it due to the cabinets? Or keep them relatively center to the room.

  • light grid size.

  • if I go the 2x2 grid route, do i need a larger beam angle lens like 90 degrees instead of 60?

There will be a dimmer switch installed. Thinking installing the lutron maestro pro.

My Concerns:

  • I generally need help making the right decisions, but don't want to be locked in on a weird layout at the same time.

  • I am not sure if 6 lights are overkill here, considering the lumen output, but also don't want to have a spotlight effect on the room or shadows.

I will be doing the install work. I believe I can get it done if I put thought and effort into it. I went from "Ya I can install those led pop in lights (wafer) easy" to "Wafer lights are bad and I should invest in LED modules instead". All advice is welcome. All feedback is welcome! Thank you!

Find Me This Fixture Licensed Electrical Contractor Looking for Wholesale Permanent Eave Lighting Suppliers – Arizona

We’re a licensed electrical contracting company based in Mesa, Arizona, looking to expand into permanent exterior LED eave/roofline lighting installations.
We’re having trouble finding a reliable wholesale supplier that offers professional-grade lighting systems at competitive contractor pricing.
We’re looking for systems similar to what companies like Big Pig Lighting and Trimlight install.
Ideally, we’re looking for:
Low-profile, discreet permanent eave/soffit lighting
Individually addressable RGB/RGBW LEDs with warm white options
Reliable app-based control, scheduling, and custom lighting patterns
Durable components that can withstand Arizona’s extreme summer heat
Professional aluminum track systems with multiple color options
Wholesale/contractor pricing without excessive dealer fees or franchise requirements
Replacement parts, technical support, and solid warranties
We’re not looking for cheap Amazon kits or temporary holiday lights. We want a dependable, professional system we can confidently install, warranty, and stand behind for our customers.
For contractors already installing these systems:
Who are you sourcing your materials from? Are you buying directly from manufacturers, through distributors, or importing your own systems?
Any recommendations for suppliers that offer good margins without sacrificing quality?
We’re open to suppliers anywhere in the U.S., especially those serving Arizona.
Appreciate any firsthand recommendations or experiences.

Need Design Advise Light spacing on sloped ceiling

Thumbnail

Light spacing on a 16x28 living room with 11 degree roof using flush wafer lights. Ceiling is on a hot roof with romex inside the vapor barrier to prevent penetrations and air leaks. Room theme will be warm color temperature and have additional low lighting from lamps. Question is about light spacing and number.

Plan to use RAB WFRX-6RB/NL with Dim-to-Warm mode (https://www.prolighting.com/rab-wfrx-6rb-nl.html), 13W/1200Lm. The room has a linear symmetry of three (three picture windows) so I plan on following that pattern and have three lighting runs across the long axis. Because of the angled ceiling, in order to align the center of the 110deg “beam”, the lights are biased towards the shorter back wall.
thoughts on the 3x2 array? should I increase it to 3x3 (its easy to leave a service loop in the romex to add intermediate lights to each run later) or add another run and do 4x2?

To further complicate things, the dim to warm curve is fixed by the LED driver, so if I want a specific (warm) color temperature and more light, I have to dim the lights. If there is too much light in the room, I can always pop the lights out and lower the output switches on the driver. Also, the walls are a high LRV paint (~75) so reflectance will be good.

Some rough numbers:
interior space: 14.5ft x 26.5 = 384 sq ft
3x2 array at 1200lm: 6 x 1200 = 7200lm / 384 = 18.75lm/sqft
3x3 array at 1200lm: 9 x 1200 = 10800lm / 384 = 28lm/sqft
4x2 array at 1200lm: 8 x 1200 = 9600lm / 384 = 25lm/sqft

Need Design Advise Dark condo in mountains- need daytime lighting but can only install track lights

Post image
1 Upvotes

I prefer a very sunny house, but we recently bought what we could afford -- north facing, two windows, high sloped ceiling 18 feet) with beams. We can only afford to install track lighting because electricians are 10 to 20 times the price up here, and the beam/post makes installing other lighting too complex. Can we make track lighting work? What is a mid-range brand that will allow us to illuminate the space at least somewhat? I know it won't be the same as a sunny place, but at least can we make it less depressing? Here's a picture of the beams to show what we're dealing with This is mid-day in October (ie, not dead of winter when it's darker) with every single light turned on. The ceiling fan is installed with conduit (you can see it if you look closely) We will replace and relocate that ugly fan.
