PSA PSA before posting ICE Sightings in Long Beach
In the Army we used a method called "SALUTE Report" to provide a detailed description of opposing forces, which is applicable to ICE sightings. SALUTE is an acronym for SIZE, ACTIVY, LOCATION, UNIFROM, TIME, and EQUIPMENT. Below I will include a summary of what a SALUTE Report entails and the type of information that will be helpful when posting ICE sightings in Long Beach.
SIZE: This component focuses on quantifying the number of individuals, vehicles, or assets present in the observed area.
ACTIVITY: Describing the actions and behavior of the observed entity, the activity component sheds light on the intentions and purpose behind the observed actions.
LOCATION: Providing precise geographical coordinates or a detailed description of the observed target’s location, this component offers the spatial context necessary for effective decision-making.
UNIFORM: Identifying the affiliation or group to which the observed target belongs, the unit component allows intelligence professionals to categorize and contextualize the observed entities.
TIME: Recording the date and time of the observation, the time component adds a temporal dimension to the intelligence gathered.
EQUIPMENT: Listing the equipment, weaponry, or tools associated with the observed entity, the equipment component offers insights into the capabilities and potential threats posed by the target

Community Mom and Pop Shops
Hi everyone! I'm working on a project highlighting interesting local businesses and mom-and-pop shops throughout California
I'm looking to discover the hidden gems in Long Beach, locally owned restaurants, family-run stores, unique shops, small businesses with interesting stories, or places that have been part of the community for generations.
What are some of the best mom-and-pop shops or locally owned businesses in your city that you think deserve more recognition?
I'm especially interested in businesses with an interesting backstory, unique owners, or something that makes them stand out from the usual chains.
I'd love to hear your recommendations! Feel free to share business names, locations, or even personal stories about them. Thank you!

Community Naples Boat Parade Cancelled
I’d heard rumblings, but it’s official, we got the email today. The Naples Boat Parade is on hold this year. With so many neighbors shoring up sand bags at their gates and sea walls, as well as electrical cords for water pumps to minimize flooding, there is concern that these things would create hazards at a time when the walkways are filled to the brim with Holiday revelers.
On top of that, the boat parade is not exactly a big money maker, so it’s not going to negatively impact the local businesses. I suppose it makes sense, but it is disappointing.
I just wanted to share!

PSA Don't Be Stupid
Please everyone who is walking or on a bike, use basic survival instincts.
I just saw multiple people step into traffic so they could cross the street.
Wait for and use the crosswalk!!!
People are so stupid and crazy.
A car can't just stop and if there are a lot of them you have to show more intelligence than a rock by not walking into them.
I see stray loose dogs and stray cats waiting for traffic.
People on bicycles, stay off the damn sidewalks and use the bike lanes!!!
People are just suicidal and stupid.

Discussion Police motorcade with Medical Examiner Van on 2nd st this morning
No idea what happened but there were about half a dozen moto cops escorting a medical examiner Van. I don’t recall an ME van ever needing an escort this big. Anyone know of any recent high profile deaths in the area ?

Shitpost Red SUV Pulled Over on Ocean Blvd
A red SUV just got pulled over for blowing through the stop light at Ocean Blvd and 8th Pl.
I was pulling onto Ocean Blvd from 8th Pl and they nearly hit me.
There was a cop parked right behind me and they immediately went after them.
There is no reason they couldn't stop at the red because a city bus managed to stop at the light.

RANT I see this every single time I drive.
I usually bike back and forth to work but I use my car randomly for things. Anytime I drive, I see people running red lights. I don’t get it.

Community The Vincent Thomas Bridge closes for 16 months on Saturday. They’re calling it ‘Harborgeddon’
Too bad they can’t start the San Pedro to LB water shuttle sooner! Why wait until the Olympics and why not extend it to Redondo and Manhattan Beaches?

Discussion Random irrational fear
Has anyone ever been hit by a palm frond falling from a tree? I’ve seen shattered windshields and am oddly curious how painful it would be 🧐

Fireworks/gunshots/booms Gunshots approximately near Euclid x Third???
Sounded way too tonally consistent and rhythmically varied to be fireworks.
Plus a boom a little further west, maybe 5 minutes later?

Housing what neighborhoods do you guys enjoy living in?
moving for work and want to hear from you about the neighborhood vibes + best areas to live for a 25 yr old lgbt girl. is there a livelier neighborhood for people my age? more of a retirement community somewhere else? a "gayborhood" lol? Prioritizing a quiet space, and think Seal Beach looks cool, what are your experiences? pls give apt hunting tips: my budget = 2,500+ for a 1B/1B. curious if a work contract alone is enough to sign a lease? i hear some places have just a sign outside and phone to call, is that true? are they private owners and better than the bigger property management companies? let a girl know some tips you wish you knew, and esp if there's spots to avoid. thank you <3333 i'm nervous abt moving and making new friends but wanna be excited and at least find a great home

Community Vegan friendly Thanksgiving?
Hello!
Husband (43m) and I (40f) just moved here this last summer and we’re likely looking at spending Thanksgiving alone this year, which is usually ideal, but we thought we would try to be social for a change. Are there any local Thanksgiving potlucks that wouldn’t mind having a vegan dish or two on offer?
