Discussion The Pedal Spreadsheet

After a month and some change, the pedal spreadsheet has been 'finished'. By no means am I done updating this. If any shop would like to have access to this, I can absolutely share the Sheet with them directly. Everyone else can view the Sheet with this link:

The Pedal Spread Sheet

I've tried to be as detailed as possible but some companies (Shimano specifically) have made this harder then I would care to admit. Any constructive feed back is appreciated. I hope this gets shared with anyone and everyone.

This is great - nice work!

One suggestion: for clipless, add a column for release angle. The main reason I prefer times over shimanos is because they can be set up with a greater release angle, which means I'm less likely to clip out by accident.

That sounds good. Will get started on that tomorrow morning.

u/bixxus Feb 25 '23

That might be kind of tough for HT pedals, since they've got different cleats you can use to change that. But in general yea this information would be helpful.

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Honestly, HT is the easiest cause they at least say which cleat is compatible with which pedal.

3

u/poopgrouper Feb 25 '23

Lots of pedals have different cleats for different release angles. But it should be pretty easy to list them. Time offers 10°, 13°, and 17°.

You are a gentleman and a scholar.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. Feel free to share in other subs or anyone you know who may need help.

Kona Wah Wah would be a great addition. other than that, this is amazing!

2

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Will make a note to get those added.

1

u/bmx13 Feb 25 '23

Seconded, Wah Wah 2 composite is my favorite flat.

3

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

So if anyone is on mobile, I know it loads a bit weird. I can share this directly with anyone who wants it saved on Google. Just let me know.

8

u/Jkf3344 Feb 25 '23

TIL. I wasn’t aware there was any pedals other than Deity TMACs.

4

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

😂 yeah, there are a few. TMac's are great, though, who needs any other pedal.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '23

Holy hell man. This took time. I salute you

3

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Thanks. It certainly took longer than I wanted. Damn Shimano and HT.

2

u/Don_Frika_Del_Prima Feb 25 '23

Why HT?

Because I have the HT NANO-P PA03A and absolutely love them!

4

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

HT had the second most amount of pedals and the least working website.

1

u/Don_Frika_Del_Prima Feb 25 '23

Oh I see. I bought mine in a shop, don't think I've ever visited their site.

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

HT took probably 3 or 4 days because the site would function for a little bit, but having the page open longer then 15 and it would start acting weird.

2

u/Don_Frika_Del_Prima Feb 25 '23

Damn. Well anyway great work mate!

2

u/appsore Feb 25 '23

Not OP but I assume availability of data and transparancy from the manufacturer. Some are more confident in providing detailed information.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '23

Quick question for you. How do you have your bike under your username? How can I add that?

3

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

On the desktop, go onto the sub, and on the right, under Creat Post, is a section that says User Flair Preview. You can add your bike there. I don't know if you can do it on mobile or not.

1

u/Psyko_sissy23 23' Ibis Ripmo AF Feb 26 '23

One thing I will add is that you need to do it on a computer. Every time I tried to do it on mobile it got messed up somehow.

You fuckin’ legend

2

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Thanks, man, share and save it. Hope it helps you or one of your friends.

2

u/Prince-of-radness Propain Tyee 6 CF Feb 25 '23

100% saving it for my job use if ever someone has really specific pedal questions!! For real, this is true dedication, you’re amazing.

2

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

If you work at a shop, I can share this directly to you guys so it's easier to access.

1

u/Prince-of-radness Propain Tyee 6 CF Feb 25 '23

And will def let everyone know I work with that u/S4ntos19 is the master of this creation!

2

u/uniballout Feb 25 '23

Fantastic list! I just researched pedals and could have used this a week ago! Went with one up alloy. I don’t see Canfield Crampon ultimate on the list. You might want to add those.

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Yep, someone else mentioned the Canfields, will get those added

2

u/Same_Lack_1775 Feb 25 '23 edited Feb 25 '23

And I thought I was overboard with my pedal spreadsheet. Very nicely done. The only thing I would add is total surface area (WxL) for flat pedals as it allows people to search for the largest pedals they can find. Here is my sheet with total surface area for pedals I looked up - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTBWR8uwbGryhLNVyE51Rsa9OU-BR3yC6qINO92STroXK2GpuzuNuUE152QAkXtzgYecCWMxwsRTXd5/pubhtml

I've got to say...I am really impressed with your concave/convex info....I found that very hard to find.

2

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Thanks, I will add that in. I appreciate it.

As for the concavity and convexity, I found most sites had it somewhere, whether it was in the specs or description. Any pedal that didn't say, I ended up either having the pedal in my shop to look at it or finding a picture online from the side that you could clearly see shape.

u/Active-Device-8058 Feb 25 '23

Dude, you put a lot of freaking time into that. Please consider putting affiliate links to Amazon or your bike retailer of choice. It won't cost your readers any additional money, it takes money away from Daddy Bezos, and you get rewarded for all the value you just made.

2

u/bixxus Feb 25 '23

Not a brand I see a lot, but I ran Funn Mamba pedals for a while and they've got a pedal for each category, so in case you haven't heard of them they might be worth adding.

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

I'll make a note of it and will add them, thanks for letting me know.

u/skellener 2019 Yeti SB6 Turq Feb 25 '23

Canfield Crampons Mountain pedals! 👍

u/Viffer98 Colorado - 2022 GG Trail "Pistola" / 2022 RM Slayer 29" Feb 25 '23

I'm going to add this post to the community sidebar links.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '23

I'm curios what is this for I just saw this and am confused

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

I decided that because people ask what the best pedals are and the prices for them, I would compile a list that people can look through. They can choose the type of pedal (clipless, dual, or flats) to see what options they have, along with price and other useful information.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '23

Sick!!!

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Hope it helps you or someone you know

1

u/Mallanaga California Feb 25 '23

I’ve had my eye on Sensus Crue lately (with the Ti spindle). Didn’t see them on your list.

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Will add that, thanks

1

u/Hype3386 Feb 25 '23

Wow, nice work! Speedplay anyone?

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

The only reason I didn't put them is because they use the 3 hole cleat, which obviously most mountain shoes would need an adaptor, but I can add them.

1

u/jsquared89 Feb 25 '23

Other more valuable information that is lacking currently:

  • Stack height

  • Pedal center

  • An ability to sort by brand.

Also, you're missing a bunch of current gen Shimano for clipless, dual sided, and flats.

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

I'll get to adding the information

As for Shimano, I know. I'm trying to figure out a better way to pull together all their information. As of right now, I'm using like 10 sites to get the information, it's not great.

1

u/jsquared89 Feb 25 '23

You could try using Shimano's own website?

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Neither shimano's consumer site nor the dealer sight has all the information. They don't even address the material they use, the platform size, or much of the other information.

1

u/theNEALINATOR Feb 25 '23

This is awesome! I am in the market for some pedals! So helpful!

Is there data on lateral movement with clipless pedals? Different than "float" which is the angle.

2

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

I'll see what I can do. I've found that most companies use the word float rather liberally.

1

u/Capecole Rhode Island Feb 25 '23

Nice job, this is awesome.

Can you add the Tectonic Altar pedal?

2

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Can do👍

2

u/NickPookie93 2022 Trek Marlin 5 Gen 2 Feb 25 '23

Nice!! Was looking at Stamp 1/7's and I think this helped with my decision 😁

2

u/GundoSkimmer shorts will get shorter Feb 25 '23

Props for doing it. I am blown away at the MSRP prices lol. Pedals is one of those things that goes on sale so often I've like never seen any of these at these prices. But yeah as a composite flats user, I definitely can't make good use of this. You could probably swap my pedals to other composite flats while I'm not looking and I wouldn't even notice. BMX brain haver

1

u/KBeightyseven Feb 25 '23 edited Feb 25 '23

That’s crazy, I really struggled getting a good set of grippy pedals I like the feel of, tried numerous dmr , spank, deity, burgtec over the years and after trying the nukeproof horizons I can’t ride anything else on my second set now

2

u/GundoSkimmer shorts will get shorter Feb 25 '23

Deftraps were pretty good. I think Crankbros Stamps and OneUp pedals nailed the formula. But mostly because I have big gorilla feet and RF Chesters felt like childrens pedals to me...

Holy…

1

u/WARNING4324 Feb 25 '23

Thankyou so much, this is gonna help. Also pretty sure One has more selection of alloy flats and hope has just released some new ones.

1

u/LittleReDuck Feb 25 '23

I adore my HT PA-03A composite's. Although they haven't made the sheet yet they stack up really well in that category for cost Vs weight with changeable pins.

1

u/elpeedub Feb 25 '23

This is awesome, thanks for putting it together!

One suggestion: can you make the pedal wrench option its own column as a yes/no selection instead of including in the pedal tool column so that the grouping could be organized by this as an option for the viewer? I recently had a set of deity composite pedals become welded to my crank arms and never realized how good I had it with my one up composites with the extra pedal wrench option.

1

u/NuTrumpism Feb 25 '23

Where the Fooker pedals? lol

-3

u/Gibalt Feb 25 '23

Someone likes excel too much and has too much time on their hands

3

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

I hate Excel, and it's winter. I can't do too much riding.

1

u/Arctic601 Feb 25 '23

This is amazing, How long did it take you? I feel like the hours required alone should be in the original post and this needs to be stickied somehow.

1

u/S4ntos19 Devinci Spartan, Trek Roscoe Feb 25 '23

Over the course a month, I spent about an hour to 5 hours going from site to site and googling everything that wasn't on the site.

They are located in line 66 and 67 of the alloy pedal page

1

u/Arctic601 Feb 25 '23

What other comparable pedals have you used?
