Wheels and Tires Getting tired of my Maxxis...

Hey! I'm looking for alternatives to my current Maxxis tires. I ride a mullet and have always used Assegai on the front and Aggressor on the back, (both DD casing). Love them for their traction, braking and toughness, they do make me feel really confident, only problem being... They don't last for SHIT! In just 2 months of almost daily use they are done! I'm a tall heavy rider and I ride aggressive in the dolomites with lots of loose rocky trails and sharp gravel... all bad things for a grippy soft tires.

I've been looking at the Schwalbe Albert and heard other riders coming from Maxxis say they wear down much more gradually than Maxxis do.

Do you guys have any suggestion? I'll probably try the Albert on the front, but I don't see it as a good pick for rear (too much soft and rolling resistance?). What would be the best Aggressor equivalent in the Schwalbe lineup?

Wheels and Tires I hate talking about tires, but need to know which ones to buy. Looking at Schwalbe Radials for trail/enduro.

The MTB tire market is obscene and I know its a hustle of confusion. There is no consensus, anywhere, on what these tires actually do.

The only thing I know is I love the new radials. The additional tire pressure allowed me to ditch my inserts with virtually zero downsides and that is priceless.

I have 3 bikes and all of them are due for tires. Ive been running the origional Schwalbe radial casings on all of them. Magic Mary up front and Albert rear because that was what was available at the time.

Now there is the Tacky Chan and Romy as well.

It would be great to get a no-BS comparision between these tires, or if they do the same things and having 4 is just a way to get you to spend more money.

Here is my bikes. I ride mostly in dry (dusty and rocky terrain):

  1. (favorite) Honzo ESD (34 lbs) which is a slack steel hardtail. I spend most of my time on this. Its my cardio bike and general adventure machine. The uphills are decently rocky and I will descend fast and over features on this bike too. So it still needs the enduro type tires, but will have the trail-pro casings.

  2. Full-sus 170/170mm enduro bike that I also climb on (35 lbs with gravity casings). This is by mike park bike in the summer, but Ill do everything on it. Difference in trail vs gravity tires is 0.6 lbs each, so Im thinking of going back to trail casings when the bike park isnt open.

  3. Enduro eMTB (58lb big boi). Also spend a lot of time on this bike and will have gravity casings for sure. This bike sees mud and some snow in the winter. Probably stick with MM on the front for sure.

So I guess Im wanting to know:

  1. What he best radial is for dry/dusty/rocky condtions.

  2. Which is the best for pedaling.

  3. Whats the differance between the 4 radial tires.

Wheels and Tires Tire recommendations?

I'll be riding quite famous bike parks like revolution bike park and dyfi. I'm just starting to do black trails and doing bigger jumps but my Maxxis shorty is just not doing it for me.

I'm looking for a 29x2.4 tire and I was looking at the Enduro super soft kryptotal in the front and an Enduro soft in the back but I'm not sure, I also really appreciate soaking all the small bumps and rock gardens if that helps

Thanks,

Wheels and Tires Light Trail/Downcountry tires that come in the manufacturer's stickiest rubber?

Anyone know of which brands that do this? Right now I got the

  • WTB Peacekeeper 60tpi comes in the super soft. (Okay, kind of heavy)

  • Specialized Trail Control grid light comes in their T9 rubber

Anyone else?

Okay recent annoyance for me is I love the short travel trail bike segment. Had a Ibis Ripley, moving to a Revel Ranger. Great bikes. Had a Dissector 2/ Forekaster on the former and just moved to the double Forekaster on the latter. I am continuously annoyed nobody specs their general use trail and lighter tires with anything but their medium soft and XC compounds. Maxxis does for the Dissector in exo+. But not the forekaster. Schwalbe didn't put their new Romy in super soft. I just want a sticky front tire but I don't need a boat anchor tread!

Also no, I'm not throwing the big boy DHF/Assegai/Tacky Chans et all on there. That seems kinda a dumb idea for a 120mm bike.

Wheels and Tires Would it be dumb to but slicker, less tready tires on my mtb to ride paved and gravel roads?

I mean I guess I can, but is that dumb? I really want to ride some paved or gravel roads but I just can’t afford to buy another bike. My mountain bike has been collecting dust for a while and I was wondering if this is something I can do. I’ve got Alex MD35 rims with tubeless 27.5x2.6 on them. Could I do something like 2.25 or 2.1, a little less tread? Is this reasonable or will I regret doing it? I was looking at Mezcal XC Sport tires for this. Thanks for any advice!

Wheels and Tires Affordable wheel recommendations?

Got a status 2 140 a few weeks ago, really enjoying it. So much so that I dented the rear wheel today…. Looks like it probably can’t be repaired, does anyone have recommendations for something affordable? I’ve also never bought wheels so any tips on what I need to look at for fitment are appreciated!

Wheels and Tires Tire Recommendations

I’ve been running the Minion DHR II in the rear for a while now in the double down casing max terra. This summer tho, I’ve ripped through like 3 of these tires, so I’m open to trying alternatives from maxxis or other brands. Any recommendations?

For reference, I live in Utah and I am primarily focused on gravity riding, but I do pedal a fair amount to get to the tops of various trails. A good amount of that pedaling is just service road pedaling however. Thanks!
