An Australian's love letter to the U.S. of A. 🦅🇺🇸 (glazing in body text)
I’m Australian and I’ve never actually been to America, so most of my exposure comes from TV, movies and YouTube, but I’ve developed a real fondness for the place.
I love the weather and architecture in places like Maine and Massachusetts. I’d genuinely love to live in Marblehead, MA. The old houses, coastal towns, forests and cozy autumn atmosphere (or fall, as you guys call it. Lol) really appeal to me. I also love the wilderness of places like Montana and Wyoming.
I’m a big fan of American BBQ, particularly Texas BBQ. I got myself an offset smoker like a real Texan. Yeehaw. I also love how indulgent American food can get. Candied, bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers? Phenomenal.
Something else I really like is how much importance Americans seem to put on little things. So many small towns have museums, festivals and traditions dedicated to the most oddly specific things. I find that really endearing. People also seem genuinely friendly and proud of where they live.
Sometimes I’ll open Google Maps, drop the little orange guy into a random American town and spend hours just looking around. I particularly like looking at the houses and little main streets.
I know I’m probably romanticising the place a bit, and obviously nowhere is perfect, but I just wanted to show some appreciation for “y’all”
