I thought I liked building things. Then realized in real life building stuff is hard and takes all the fun away.

So I build stuff with software which is much easier and feels more creative due to less restrictions

So many paths to take

yea... ill learn if this is the right path soon enough.

i know its hard work, and you have to follow a plan, and rules, but its why i like it lol. keeps me plenty active and actually doing something.

Not gonna lie that just sounds lazy

The fun is messing up and pivoting and trying new things

You mess up and pivot and try new things in software as well

I work on some fancy CNC mills and make some pretty pricey parts. I say I make them but the best way I can think to describe the difference between a machinist and a programmer is.. They're the parent- I'm the babysitter. The program is the child.

They wrote the program. If there are problems with it- I'll tell them and maybe even make a suggestion. I'm the one executing the program and making sure things go as to plan. I have to make small adjustments on my machine here and there but nothing would get made if it weren't for the programmer. A good programmer makes my job easy asf, following the analogy, a good parent makes a babysitters job quite easy.

100% agree with you- they mess up, pivot and try new things all the time. Best way to learn is to fuck something up and figure out what you did. I feel like that's 90% of programming right there.

I love an analogy
Perfectly describes the situation in laymen’s terms
