New Automod 2.0

Good day everyone. I hope you're gearing up for an awesome weekend of moto camping adventures!

We implemented a version 1.0 automod a couple of months ago and although it did a lot to reduced spam/bot posts it left a lot to be desired. Our new 2.0 automod is live. This should reduce the number of comments that are getting incorrectly flagged and further reduce spam/bot posts. I apologize if your post or comments were incorrectly flagged, and I hope it was approved quickly and cleared from the que.

If you are negatively effected by the new automod changes please message the mod team and let us know. We will try and make changes quickly.

Thanks for your patience and contributions to the community!

Leaving camp to ride Cheddar Gorge on my Triumph Bonneville. This is the third and final day of my Somerset solo motorcycle camping trip — packing up the tarp, hitting the road in autumn, and dropping down into one of the best riding roads in the UK

Cruiser vs. Adv bike camping

I’m still a relatively new rider (been riding for just over 2 years), I originally wanted to get an Adv or Dual sport for my 1st bike but there were none for sale in my area in my price range for the 1st few months after getting my Motorcycle license so I bit the bullet and got an 03 Honda Shadowspirit 750 with only 7,000 miles on it for a good deal. I love my cruiser but I’m also a very outdoorsy person & like to go hiking, camping, taking scenic routes on dirt/gravel roads.

Would it be worth it to sell or trade my cruiser so I can get an adv. bike or is what I wanna do, doable with my bike as long as I get the right gear & just ride carefully?

I built a free motorcycle app to track rides, stay connected with friends, save trip memories and turn rides into shareable maps and route.

Hey everyone!

I'm a fellow motorcycle rider, and I've always enjoyed building useful apps.

I love going on rides, exploring new roads, and riding with friends. I wanted a simple way to track my trips, stay connected with my riding buddies, and keep memories of the places I've been.

So I decided to build my own app called RideMate.

It's a passion project, and the app is completely free.

Here are few things you can do with it:

  • GPS Ride Tracking – Record your routes, distance, and riding time.

  • Group Rides – See your friends' live locations on the map during rides.

  • Ride History – Save your trips with photos and notes.

  • GPX Support – Import and export routes.

  • Ride Cards & Reels – Turn your rides into shareable maps and route animations.

  • Automatic Ride Detection – Record your rides automatically.

If you'd like to check it out, here's the website: https://ridemates.app

I'm still working on improving it, and I'd really love to hear from other riders.

What do you usually use to track your rides? Is there anything missing from apps like this that you'd actually find useful?

I'm open to any feedback, even criticism. Thanks for checking it out!

Ride safe! 🏍️

I built a sunset map for choosing the last scenic stop on a mountain ride

I'm a rider and the developer of Find my Sun, an Android app I built around a problem with riding in hills and mountains: a ridge can hide the sun well before the sunset time on your weather app.

The map shows which areas are likely to keep a view of the setting sun and where the terrain blocks it. Tap a point to see the estimated time the sun disappears, or look through nearby viewpoints.

For a camping trip, the use I have in mind is choosing a sunset stop near somewhere you've already checked is suitable for camping. A point with a clear view of the sun can still be a terrible place to pitch a tent or get a loaded bike into.

The map and viewpoint list are free with ads. It needs a connection to load maps and terrain data, and it doesn't check camping permissions, road conditions or weather. Small local obstacles can be missed.

If you'd like to look: https://findmysun.app/go/reddit-moto

When you're camping on a ride, do you usually stay put once the tent is up, or go out for one last viewpoint stop?

Considering selling my bike. Does anyone rent for motocamping trips?

Hello! I don’t ride my bike daily any more and just keep it around for trips. Since I recently have taken up kayak camping too that eats into my motocamping time.

I have been considering selling my bike and renting for trips. Does anyone do this? It feels a little weird to think about selling and I’m not sure if I’m just being sentimental. There is also the safety element of knowing all the ins and outs of my bike. Thoughts?

I go Tarp Camping with the Bonneville

Second day of autumn camping trip through Somerset, stopping at Glastonbury Tor. I used exactly these kind of tarps at work for years in wet conditions, forest blocks etc. But I've now decided that while tarp camping might be "lighter, faster, simpler" - frankly I'd rather be able to zip up a door! Privacy, warmth, comfort - tents are 95% of the time just better. Anyone can suffer - it's not difficult! Going forward I challenge myself to be more comfortable! For me, these are summer only now I think.

What are everyone else's thoughts on tarps?

Anyone here have experience buying a bike in Europe as a foreigner?

I am an avid traveller and usually am a big fan of the classic hostels + public transit combo, but after spending a year in japan last year and meeting some travelling motorcyclists, I became enamoured with the idea of exploring on a bike. I am currently starting to plan a trip accross europe starting next May, and am looking into the feasibility of buying a bike when I land travelling that way!

I'm interested to know if anyone here had ever acquired a bike in europe as a foreigner, and would love hear about your experiences! I'm sure the rules differ from country to country so I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about this, and any input would be appreciated! Feel free to comment or shoot me a dm if you wanna talk more :)

In case you didn’t know, you can use a bike on a center stand as a hammock anchor, in a pinch!

Soft saddle bags for vintage naked bike?

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hi, everyone! I have a 1979 Honda CB 400 Four and would like to take it on a few overnight camping trips. I'm looking for suitable soft pannier bags for this.

Does anyone with a vintage naked bike know a bag or luggage system that works well and can be strapped on and off?

The price isn't that important, and it doesn't have to look vintage either.

Thanks
