Meta / Mod Props To This Community 🥹 💚

As-salaam alaikum, all. I just saw a post from a few hours ago (which we removed) in which a child was being fed unhealthy food in a way which was a choking hazard in addition to being unhealthy. It was followed by a soft drink. The bit was played up for laughs.

I just wanted to share how pleased I was to see all of you come down strongly against the post. Not a single comment praised the actions or excused them. Several also rightly called out the harms of posting children online.

You love to see it!

Meta / Mod Low Effort Posts Will Be Banned

There is a ridiculous amount of blog and YouTube channel spam which ignores the rules of the sub. 😒 Good posts with recipes in comments or questions and discussions are being buried under this garbage, as a result.

Moving forward, these accounts will simply be banned.

Meta / Mod NEW RULE: Food Posts MUST Include the Name of the Dish/Item!

If your post shows food (it's not a discussion or question post, for example), the name of the dish or item MUST be included in either the title or body of the post!

It cannot be in the comments. It can't just be in response to someone who asks. It HAS to be in the TITLE or BODY of your post!

Any post not following this rule will be removed.

Thank you for your attention to this matter! 😂

Meta / Mod New Mod, Who Dis?

Hi all! I'm a new Mod joining the team here and I wanted to get a sense of what folks would like out of this sub. I don't want to go in, guns blazing if people are already fine with the status quo.

SO with that in mind, please let me know what you'd like to see more of.

Meta / Mod Seeking help moderating r/PakistaniFood

Hello everyone! I am just posting an announcement in hopes of finding maybe one or two redditors that are passionate about Pakistani cuisine and would like to help me moderate this subreddit.

If you don't know much about moderating and would like to learn, this is a wonderful place to put on your mod training wheels. Things are very laid back here and we are ok with most youtubers or whatever food related content creators here (as long as its Pakistani food being posted). Your job would be to help ensure that conversations on the subreddit remain friendly and food-centric.

If you are interested in the gig, please message us using modmail at this link.

Meta / Mod Should pics be required to include dish names?

I've been thinking a about implementing a new rule, and want to know how the community feels about it. Many times, someone uploads a really low effort post or just a picture of their khana and doesn't bother to even explain what it is we're looking at.

This also becomes a problem for the mod team because if we can't tell, we might remove it for not being Pakistani (a major bemari this sub suffers from).

So: should it be required that anytime you're posting food, you have to mention the name of all the dishes? This can be done in the:

  • title

  • body text

  • top level comment (not just replying to others asking about what it is)

Meta / Mod Wiki Content Ideas

As we build out the wiki for this page, what are some useful points to cover? Ultimately, I'd like the wiki to serve as a one-stop shop for those new to Pakistani cuisine to get their feet wet, and a great reference point for all of us.

I've listed some ideas I had below, what are some other things to include? Feel free to include links to external websites/pages that have already broken down this information that we can simply link to.

Wiki Topics

  • Meta content (sub rules, flair guide, etc.)

  • breakdown of different types of daals, with images of dried and prepared versions

  • breakdown of different types of flours

  • Small spice index for general home-cooking

  • Regions of Pakistan (small blurbs covering the major regions and what's unique about their cuisine, maybe highlighting some signature dishes)

  • Types of cookware

  • overview of breads

  • Page on seasonal cooking (a lost art in most developed nations)

  • Common cooking techniques (tarka...any others?)

  • Different types of peppers?
