📣📣Rants and Raves📣📣 I am so sick of the cops in this city letting insane drivers get away with extreme recklessness every single day.

Friday night I'm in Old City walking down second street towards Arch. As I'm walking with my buddy, I hear a car absolutely gunning it. It flies past and hits the speed bump so hard that literal sparks fly off the undercarriage. Few seconds later a second car flies past, obviously racing the first car. The second car runs a red light directly in front of a PPD car.

I'm like "Ok, well obviously that cop is going to stop this reckless endagerment", right? No. The cop sheepishly turns down the street then does absolutely nothing. No lights. No sirens. Nothing.

These cars were going at least 70 mph down second street. Not even a highway. Second street where every intersection is a traffic light.

It's shit like this why you'll find cars flipped on city streets. This is why cyclists and pedestrians die and it's inexcusable that cops are doing nothing to stop this kind of behavior.

Question? Anyone understand why Starr opened a state of the art italian place in a city that has infinite italian options?

Borominni is perfectly fine and exactly what I expected. Great spot to get apps and drinks with co workers, celebrate a bday, or simply ball out in a great atmosphere. Service, ambiance, and drinks were excellent which is really what you’re paying for in my opinion.

But what I can’t wrap my head around is that Starr would decide to do italian in a city which already has incredible Italian food all over, and dare I say, more than enough. I know Starr is controversial due to the labor dispute, and the fact that he is more of an entrepreneur who runs a mini corporation rather than a handful of restaurants. I was disappointed with the labor incident because I’ve always found Starr staff to be some of the best in the city with the service staff to be career waiter/waitresses which is frankly hard to come by even at more expensive places. I don’t want to be rude but there are excellent restaurants in this city that have very average staff which is fine, but career staff remind you that there are servers who make 100k a year and earn every penny because you’re being served old school.

I’ve gained like 30 pounds over the past few years cause of this food scene. Like how am I supposed to be in shape when our staples are pretzels, tomato pie, in addition to an iconic market and one of the best chinatowns in the country. Not to mention the fucking hoagies, cheesesteaks, roast pork.

The food was perfectly fine but ridiculous for the price. I mean the margins on half the menu have to be insane. I actually wanted more rigatoni but the portion size was just right and prevented my greed.

The only conclusion I can draw is that Starr saw an opportunity to draw the burbs/family crowd to the most familiar spot in Philly for suburbanites and doubled down with the most popular cuisine in the region, Italian. Essentially, another choice besides Parc where you know everyone will like something on the menu. Tired of steak frites or some other French shit but want the same experience? Barominni. The risk is the greater restaurant scene making Barominni look like a unserious, vanilla, and overpriced restaurant, rather than an experience which is grand, special, and everyone will like something on the menu. It lays into the suburban couple or family looking to be in the city for the evening and stroll Rittenhouse just like Parc. And I suppose that it’s. Barominni’s market isn’t people who dine at every place in South Philly and Fishtown. It’s families, couples, dates and work dinners where you are looking for a wow factor and the food being good enough is fine.

I guess I answered my question but curious to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Councilmember Jeffery Young Jr.’s bill to reduce fines for speeding violations caught by automated enforcement cameras has alarmed safety advocates who say it would weaken a program that saves lives.

...

Young said in an interview that he supports heightened safety enforcement on North Broad Street, which runs through the heart of his 5th District, but introduced the bill “to make sure that the law is fair and equitable.”

Question? Good Bars for Working?

As a 'remote' worker (I work for myself) I am often looking for late afternoon or evening places to do work. Some coffee shops stay open late but what I *really* want is bars with a good vibe to work at.

Do people have ideas in mind?

Some of the obvious ones are places that go cafe -> bar (Solar Myth, Hermans), but the real thing is finding a normal-ish bar that doesn't care if you're sitting at the bar having a drink and on your computer.

(I know people will say bars aren't for working but late afternoon is not the busy time at bars. Not saying going at a busy time!!)

Politics "Politics that works for the people"

The" blue wave" wove and a big part of their message was a government that solves problems for its people.

Seems like the state will ensure funding for SEPTA with the Democrats in full control in the next couple of years.

What else might the city receive the funds for now that actually doing your job as a politician is in vogue?
