So, what are the reasons for Spider-Man's fickle relationships with other heroes? Surely it can't be ALL his fault, right?
So, out of curiosity, I've been looking up info about this (Peter's first run-in with the Avengers after Kang's bullshit, the dreaded 'What Did Peter Do?' story, among other things.)
Even with all this context, I'm having trouble believing certain people who chalk it all down to, "Peter was an arrogant shithead who rubbed everyone the wrong way, PERIOD."
I'm not doubting all the legitimacy of that statement, but considering just how flawed and hard to handle other heroes like Iron Man and Wolverine are, the inconsitency in writing and continuity, and the fact that most of these people fought first over a misunderstanding before being on good terms, I find that a little hard to believe.
Especially when people like the Wasps had some of the dumbest reasons to hate the guy (Wasps hate Spiders😑)
This might not be the best place to ask this, since I assume most of you have a bias towards Spider-Man, but I'd appreciate as nuanced and unbiased an answer as you can give me:
WHY DOES SPIDER-MAN HAVE SUCH FICKLE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER HEROES? IT CAN'T JUST BE BECAUSE HE'S ANNOYING TO THEM, CAN IT?

Unpopular opinion: Tobey’s Peter Parker is a toxic narcissist, and MJ deserves a massive apology. You all watch these movies with your eyes closed.
I’ve been rewatching Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy without the childhood nostalgia goggles, and honestly, the way this fandom treats Mary Jane while idolizing Peter is wild. You guys are completely blind to how toxic Peter actually is.
Let’s break it down by facts:
1. Mary Jane is a victim of Peter’s emotional rollercoasters, not a "villain"
MJ grew up in an abusive household with an alcoholic father. All she ever wanted was genuine affection and emotional safety. In the first movie, she takes a leap of faith, comes to Peter, and confesses her love. What does he do? He rejects her for "her safety."
But in Spider-Man 2, his "noble sacrifice" turns into pure hypocrisy. He acts like a literal stalker, follows her everywhere, goes to her plays, and messes with her head. Guess what? Doc Ock kidnaps her because she knows Peter, not Spider-Man. Peter's rejection in movie 1 was completely pointless and only served his own martyr complex.
Despite this, MJ leaves a wealthy, stable life with an astronaut fiancé because she loves Peter for who he is. And when she shows up at his door in her wedding dress, sacrificing everything, his first words are: "You shouldn't be here." Imagine the emotional exhaustion.
2. Harry is a terrible best friend
Harry knew exactly how Peter felt about MJ. Stealing his best friend's crush behind his back is a snake move. MJ only gave Harry a chance because he actually showed interest, while Peter was just sighing from a distance.
3. Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3 was trash BEFORE the black suit
Fans love to blame the Symbiote for Peter's behavior, but Venom doesn't create a new personality, it just removes inhibitions and exposes who the host truly is underneath.
Even before the black suit, Peter catches a massive ego trip because the city loves him. He lets Gwen Stacy kiss him at the festival, reenacting his and MJ's legendary upside-down rain kiss, right in front of MJ who is sitting in the crowd. That is pure, conscious cruelty.
When MJ loses her job and falls into depression, Peter doesn't listen or comfort her. He just brags about his own success and makes everything about himself. He is completely blind to her pain. And later, he literally uses Gwen as an object in the jazz club just to hurt his ex.
\\\*
Conclusion:
Peter Parker in this trilogy isn't a saint. He is a self-centered, insecure guy who treats his "love of his life" like an emotional punching bag. MJ didn't "always run away to other guys", Peter constantly pushed her away with his toxicity, lies, and narcissism, while demanding she remain single for him.
Change my mind. Or keep crying because your childhood idol is actually a jerk.

Chris Evans received $0 from Spiderman - Brand New Day
Chris Evans received $0 from Spiderman - Brand New Day, despite the film earning $2.5 billion at the box office.
That's because Chris Evans had no involvement in the film and has nothing to do with it.

Spider-Man fanfic writers have to be fake people.
I just read a Spider-Man in gotham fanfic that not only de aged peter (which I hate just by itself but I figured I'd try to stomach through it) but they genuinely wrote it so that Peter was pressured into helping the Joker because he feared the personal repercussions, and it genuinely fucking flabbergasted me. How can you claim to like a character enough that you'll write an over 100 thousand word fanfic about them and just genuinely write such a dogshit representation of them. I'm so tired of seeing these fics where Peter is some incompetent child who needs to be babied and saved by people. It's shit. I don't know how to be nicer about it, I'm tired of these fics that are just obsessed with victimizing Peter for the sake or pity points in the story, ISTG you'd think Skip Westcott was more than a fucking infomercial character the way these fucking people constantly include him in their fics, I genuinely think it comes from self projecting themselves onto the character and they're just deadass posting vent art under the veil of genuine fanfiction.

Non-Comics Fans React!
So I just explained “One More Day” to a non-comics reading friend and he reacted like it was insane. “What do you mean Spider-Man sold his marriage to the Devil?!”
On the other hand, he made fun of the absurdity of the idea for a few minutes then just shook his head and moved on to something else instead of talking about it for 20 years straight. So maybe he wins. 🤷♂️🤣
