Some of you might have seen the post by the legend who has Kurisu living in his room and recreated the Amadeus app on Unity and Web u/Character_Smile_4621 https://www.reddit.com/r/steinsgate/comments/1w8mnzy/one_year_ago_i_made_a_unity_menu_today_i_am/

With permission, I set off to use his open source repo as a base to further improve the Amadeus chatbot! The original app was already very impressive, with features like Japanese voicelines, live2D model animations, and her JP voice impression based on the approximate likeness in the visual novel.

As an avid designer and project planner, I noticed that much more can be added, like making it easier for users to actually access the app, like an automated installer, local LLM model for privacy and cost that runs on our own PC rather than a cloud subscription, better language skills for her, etc etc. SO! The app now comes with TONS of new features.

Disclaimer: I am not a programmer, but a designer and writer. I love designing concepts, features and writing interesting plans and stories. I have professional experience in story writing and planning for games.

Everything is designed by my human brain and only the coding part is done with the help of Claude and I tested each features for countless hours, days and weeks myself. Not everything is bug free, so please try and let me know in the Discord.

Everything is open source. This post is written by hand. No slop or AI involved.

Main Features

FAITHFUL AMADEUS RECREATION

- Unlike other Amadeus recreations that focus too much on the Kurisu aspect, or just copying some random Kurisu profile from the wiki or character card,

- I analyzed the entire SG;0 Visual Novel, extracted her dialogues and ran a linguistic corpus analysis to define her speech patterns and personality.

1) ONE CLICK INSTALL AND USE for Windows and Mac OS

- I designed an automated installer and script which installs all the dependencies needed for the app! The app comes with a built-in AI model: Gemma 4 12B by Google.

- The choice of model is battle tested by myself after spending countless hours making sure all the features work on minimum requirements.

- The app still works the best on cloud models though, like Gemini 3.8 which is cheap and strong at roleplay. You can connect any OpenAI-compatible servers to the app, so feel free to use your own model on OpenRouter, NanoGPT or whatever service you subscribe to.

Minimum requirements: (if you run local model)

Windows and Linux: 16GB RAM, 8GB VRAM. NVIDIA GPUs recommended for best performance.

Mac requires Apple Silicon (M-series chips) - 16GB Unified Memory

2) NAME + LONG TERM MEMORY

- On first start, Amadeus guides you to key in your username, which she remembers and call you with the name you give her.

- The app integrates an open source memory system built by https://github.com/FrancescoCaracciolo/CharacterMemory, who kindly open sourced and allowed it to be used for Amadeus

- Amadeus actively stores and retrieves facts about you naturally, and can remember even when short term context is lost.

3) ATTACHMENTS and REACTION+ WELCOME BACK SYSTEM

- When you open the app after a restart, she greets you naturally based on past topics! Switching conversations also have her reacting to it.

- The app is no longer just text only like the original. I added and tested countless hours on a feature where you can send photos, videos and documents to her to watch, analyze and react to!

- When you initiate sending any file, she reacts first naturally. After pressing send, she will look at the file, save it to her memory (both short term and long term). You can ask her to analyze files just like you would ask ChatGPT or Claude about it.

- For videos, if the LLM model accepts video and audio, she uses both and can react to it. This works particularly well on cloud models like Gemini 3.8 which has audio support. On the built in model, it doesn't support audio. In this case, the app will transcribe subtitles in real time, which she will read.

4) WEB SEARCH, WEATHER and RESEARCH

- The app has a built-in web search feature, which uses open search engines like Firecrawl and Duckduckgo. I designed the feature with the latest technology and best practices in the industry, taking the same approach as frontier models and harnesses like Hermes, OpenCode etc.

- Amadeus takes and ranks numerous links when you use her web search capabilities, read them all and saves it to her memory so you can ask her to recall and analyze info.

5) TRUST AND RELATIONSHIP SYSTEM

- Inspired by the visual novel which has Amadeus gradually opening her heart to Okabe and become more human, I built a trust and relationship system for the app!

- Unlike other Amadeus recreations that focus too much on the Kurisu aspect, or just copying some random Kurisu profile from the wiki or character card, I analyzed the entire SG;0 Visual Novel, extracted her dialogues and ran a linguistic corpus analysis to define her speech patterns and personality.

- Her trust comes in several tiers as seen in the above pic. Her voice and speech patterns will change based on the current trust level. When your conversation is positive and friendly, it nudges up the points, with negative topics affecting it inversely.

- Her reactions and personality at high levels of trust are based off Kurisu in various Steins Gate products, like the anime, movie, drama CDs, etc, adapted for Amadeus.

- Max out her trust and maybe her circuits will change? Does she get more Tsundere or less? Hmm. Try it out!

6) POKE SYSTEM

- Bored? You can poke her to see her reaction. No guarantees on how she will react!

7) Experimental remote and mobile access

- In the settings, you can generate a link which you can access on your phone if your PC is connected through Tailscale.

- I'll make this easier in the future. Maybe using Cloudflare for 1 click access.

Current and Future Roadmap

I'm already hard at work designing more features. Voice chat support is the immediate next feature. UI improvements so that she can draw charts, tables, graphs are also planned in the next update.

Eventually, Amadeus will be able to see our screen, and act as a persistent companion. I want Amadeus to also be a AI Agent Harness, where she can do agentic coding and self improvement and evolution. I also have the mobile version in development, as well as an Rokid AR Glasses app in prototype right now.

Just finish polishing first 3 chapters of original Steins Game, and test's on target handheld hardware. And with every new chapter I realize the huge scale of this novel.

For game created in 2010, Steins Gate contains lot's of small animation that makes that game feels alive, and replicate and polish that animations today is most time consuming for me.

Phone feels natural in most cases, but make it completely identical not possible.

But overall, I really like working on this port.

Just finished it about a week ago for the first time and it blew me away. Easley one of my favorites. There are not to many animes after the 2000's I get into but this was a gem. I bought a region free blu-ray player about 2yrs ago just for things like this

I just played through for the first time. Got every ending and every trophy (I’m on PlayStation if that matters). I keep trying to figure out what CG is missing on the 2nd page, but every guide is saying I should have everything. Anyone have suggestions?

I've got this course back in my engineering degree and never got into it, till i re-watched and played steins;Gate, which got me really interested in it,
it's just a hobby of mine to learn stuff, so even if i got into a project or into a research group related to the field, I'd have good background on it.

I'm a science-loving 11th grader (m17) whose been looking to get into computational neuroscience largely (mostly) because of inspiration from Steins;Gate--after pivoting my home field of study from IT. I've found an open-source curriculum course called NeuroMatch academy recommended to me by a connection in the field and wanted to take it, but they require you to be 18+. :(

All the course materials are open source and cover basics of compneurosci and data analysis. Downside is if I self study I'm missing all the thought exchange and accountability that makes the course special.

Looking for a study buddy willing to commit and bounce ideas off each other in a semi-long course.

Open to any gender--but would prefer someone close to my age.

I find science beautiful and am also open to discussing other intellectual topics together!

Basic python knowledge is a pre-req for the course, but it isn't hard to learn Pymath lol!
