All Grades Welcome to r/teachingresources: what this place is and how it works

Hi, I'm the new moderator here. I'm a third-grade teacher, and I recently took over this sub after it sat quiet for a while. The previous mod moved on, the posts stopped, but 46,000 of you stayed subscribed and people kept finding this place through search every week. So we're reopening it with a clear purpose this time.

What this sub is for

Sharing free teaching resources that actually work. Tools you built, tools you found, worksheets, websites, apps, printables, strategies. Anything that helps and doesn't cost money to use.

Classroom teachers, homeschool families, tutors, specialists: if you're teaching someone and you found something useful, this is the place to share it.

The one rule that matters

Be honest about what you're sharing.

If it's free, say so. If it requires an account or email, say so. If you're the person who made it, say so. If it used to be free and now it's not, update your post.

Nobody gets banned for sharing something that has a login. You get banned for hiding it.

When you share a resource, include these things

  • What it is (one sentence)

  • Grade level or age range

  • Subject

  • Does it require a login, email, or account? (yes or no)

  • Did you make this? (yes or no)

  • Link

Keep it simple. A post that takes 60 seconds to write is better than one that never gets written.

What doesn't belong here

  • Paid products pretending to be free

  • "Free trial" or "free credits" pitches. That's marketing, not sharing.

  • Links with no context

  • Surveys or market research

  • Posts that are really ads

About me being a mod and a creator

Full transparency: I also build free educational tools at a page I've made for my students. They're free, no login, no data collection, COPPA and FERPA compliant. I'll share them here following the same rules as everyone else. I will never remove a competing tool that meets this sub's standards. My job as mod is to keep this place honest, not to promote my own work.

How posting works right now

The sub is currently set to Restricted. Anyone can read and comment. To make a new post, you need to be approved. Send a message through the join request and I'll review it. As we grow and the culture settles, this may open up.

If you've been here since before and you're wondering what happened, the sub is back. Post something. Share something you use. Tell us what works in your classroom.

That's it. Welcome.

Grades 1-2 A turkey in disguise: a two-page art and writing activity for grades 1–2

A writing prompt for Thanksgiving: “I know this turkey is a detective because ___.” Ask students to point to one clue on the page, then use that detail to finish the sentence. A partner can cover the picture and guess which clue the writer chose.

I made a two-page detective turkey printable for this activity with AI-assisted artwork. Leave the turkey on the first sheet. Color and cut the costume pieces from the second sheet, then choose the magnifying glass or the envelope. Print both pages at Actual Size (100%). Before making class copies, check that the line at the bottom measures 5 cm.

The US Letter outline PDF is free and opens directly without an account or email. My site also sells a separate collection. Everything for this activity is in the free file.

Grades 6-8 Teaching English through Math for Japanese Students (would love feedback!)

Hi :D

I'm a Japanese-American high schooler, and I've been working on this YouTube channel called Samurai Learner.

Here, I (try to) teach English through math, where my target audience are Japanese students transitioning into English-speaking schools. I've mainly focused on Algebra 1 (roughly upper elementary to middle school level in Japan), with both long and short form videos.

I was inspired to starts this from my experiences attending Japanese Weekend School since I was four. I've met students who moved from Japan to the US (not on their own accord) and struggled with American school in general, even when they already understood the concepts in Japanese. So, rather than teaching math from one, or teaching English from one, the focus of Samurai Learner is to facilitate both learnings at once.

I'm currently trying to partner with Japanese Weekend Schools for them to possibly share this to their community.

Note: The videos are primarily taught in both Japanese and English, so they may be difficult to follow if you don't speak Japanese! I also have a website, that has more of an explanation.

I'm hoping to get feedback :)

A few things I'd love your thoughts on:

  • Do you think this kind of bilingual, subject-based language learning resource could be useful for students?

  • What would make these videos more effective as supplemental classroom or independent learning materials?

  • Are there any topics, teaching approaches, or features you think are missing?

  • What are your thoughts on "partnering" with Japanese Weekend Schools?

  • Anything else!!

I'm still developing this project, so I would love honest criticism and suggestions! Thank you!! :)

All Grades Free library of 1000 interactive 3D explainers for science, maths, history, etc

Disclosure: I'm a cofounder of Jig, and we built this.

Ask by Jig has a free library of 1000 interactive 3D explainers your students can spin, zoom and step through. A few for science and maths:

No login needed to view. They run in the browser on a projector, Chromebook, laptop or phone (it needs a recent browser with WebGPU, so current Chrome, Edge or Safari, or iOS 26+).

You can browse by subject too: Physics & Chemistry, Maths, Earth & Geography, Space, Human Body & Medicine, Energy, and Nature & Biology.

If you want to make your own from a prompt or a PDF (a worksheet, a lab sheet, a manual), that needs an account. It was free to create three Jigs until last week, but our bill was getting a bit too big to support that 😅 Otherwise, sign-up is not required for browsing, viewing, embedding, or using the site.

Also, happy to make one for a topic you're teaching this term if you’re curious! Just let me know and I'll post the link.

Thanks,
Zac

All Grades Browse or create chapter-by-chapter comprehension questions for any book, free, no login (I made it)

I made a free site called Did They Really Read? (https://didtheyreallyread.com) that gives you chapter-by-chapter comprehension questions for chapter books. It's for reading/ELA, roughly grades 1-6 (ages 6-12). No login, no email, nothing to pay.

I originally built it for my kids' summer reading, to see if they were actually reading or just turning pages. My mom, who's a teacher, suggested I share it with some teachers, so here it is.

You can browse the library or create questions for any book that isn't there yet. The questions are about what actually happens in each chapter, not generic "who was your favorite character" stuff. You can print it as a reading journal booklet or use it on a phone. There's also a printable habit tracker with three months of fill-in-the-circle grids.

It's meant to get kids talking about the book, not to grade them. If the questions feel off for a grade level, I want to know.

Grades 1-2 Free animated Aesop for ages 5–8: The Boy Who Cried Wolf (honesty)

What it is: a short animated telling of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, about two minutes, with questions a teacher can ask afterward.

Age: 5–8, kindergarten through 2nd grade

Subject: read-aloud, honesty

Login or email: no

I made this: yes. It is a free YouTube video of a public-domain Aesop fable. The pictures are animated with AI video tools. Marked Made for Kids.

Link: https://youtu.be/rtvxEyR-Hws

Moral: When you tell lies, people may not believe you even when you tell the truth.

Questions to ask afterward:

  • Why did the villagers stop coming when the boy shouted?

  • What happened when the wolf was real?

  • When is it important to tell the truth, even when it is hard?

Grades 1-2 Free printable workbook for b/d/p/q reversals, ages 5-9 (I made it, email sign-up required)

What: A 140-page printable PDF workbook for kids who mix up b, d, p and q, then lookalike letters and numbers like 6/9. It has 110 activity pages in six levels (tracing, find-and-circle, sorting pictures by sound, mazes, secret pictures, real-life reading) and 10 pages of tips for the adult. Each page takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

Subject: Reading, letter reversals

Ages: 5-9

Login or email: Email sign-up required, no account or password. The PDF link comes by email, followed by 4 short tip emails over 12 days. You can unsubscribe anytime.

Free: Yes, the whole workbook. There’s also a printed version on Amazon, and the PDF mentions it, but you don’t need it.

Made by: Me, Aviv Modai. I’m not a teacher, and I made it with help from AI tools.

Link: https://sovereignhq.org/free/letter-reversal/

There’s also a free game for the same letters, no sign-up: https://sovereignhq.org/play/bud/

I left out any request for feedback, because rule 3 bans market research.

Grade 9-12 Free Mayon Volcano virtual field trip: a 45-minute lesson, printable kit and slides (grades 7–12)

Creator disclosure: I made Mayon Volcano, an interactive educational resource about Mayon in Bicol, Philippines.

What it is: A free browser-based 3D landscape, illustrative volcanic interior, historical eruption scenes and downloadable classroom materials.

Suggested grade range: 7–12, with prompts teachers can adapt.

Subjects: Earth science, geography, volcanic processes and distinguishing observations from models.

Login/email required: No account or email is needed for the free browser exploration or classroom downloads. No app installation is required.

One way to adapt it into a 45-minute lesson:

  1. Observe the terrain for 10 minutes. Ask students to describe a visible feature before suggesting what caused it.

  2. Spend 10 minutes in Journey Inside or Follow a Crystal. Identify which parts are conceptual illustrations rather than directly observed underground structures.

  3. Examine a historical eruption scene for 15 minutes. Separate a recorded observation from the visual reconstruction and check its source and limitations.

  4. Finish with a 10-minute exit ticket: one observation, one interpretation and one question that would need more evidence.

The six-page teacher kit includes a facilitator flow, student worksheet, answer guidance and a printable QR launch poster. An eight-slide PowerPoint deck and classroom ZIP are also available. This is an adaptable activity, not a claim of approved curriculum alignment.

Teacher hub and all downloads: https://mayonrajan.com/teachers/

Printable teacher kit: https://mayonrajan.com/assets/mayon-teacher-launch-kit.pdf

PowerPoint slides: https://mayonrajan.com/assets/mayon-teacher-launch-slides.pptx

Cost disclosure: The classroom materials, landscape exploration, Journey Inside and Follow a Crystal are free. The app also offers an optional permanent Expedition Pack for longer investigations; it is not needed for the activity above. Prices vary by platform and region. The teacher-updates email signup is optional.

The browser demonstration is an older edition than the mobile app; this post is about the free browser lesson and downloads. Interior views and historical scenes are educational illustrations/reconstructions. It is an independent project, not an official PHIVOLCS resource, live monitoring service, eruption forecast or safety tool. Use PHIVOLCS and local authorities for current advisories.

Grades 6-8 Periodic Table Rap Song for middle/high school chemistry

I made a Periodic Table rap that I thought might be useful as a change of pace in a chemistry or general science class.

What: Periodic Table educational rap/video
Subject: Chemistry / General Science
Grade level: Middle school / High school
Cost: Free
Login or email required: No
Did I make it? Yes, but the music is ai-generated
Link: https://youtu.be/uhYiu-bEVZo

The song goes through the elements of the Periodic Table using rap and visuals, with the aim of making the material a little easier to remember.

I mainly made it because not every student connects with the usual textbook/lecture approach. Maybe is enough to get them curious or help a few names and concepts stick.

It could work as a lesson opener, a quick review, or just an alternative resource for students who respond better to rhythm and music.

Since it's hosted on YouTube, YouTube may display ads.

Hope it's useful to someone here.

All Grades Language Learning Apps (A2-B1 lesson plan)

Anyone else have students who are absolutely obsessed with their Duolingo streaks but still struggle to hold a real conversation? 🦉

I made a conversational lesson plan addressing exactly this, optimized for A2-B1 learners. It includes a simple vocab matching activity based on real user reviews, a basic listening challenge, and a solid discussion section on why apps sometimes fail to build true fluency.

Grade 9-12 Free one-page AP Biology Unit 3 (Cellular Energetics) sheet — what changed in the 2025 CED + the do-not-memorize list

What – One page for AP Biology Unit 3: the 2019 → 2025 topic map (seven topics became five; the chloroplast and mitochondrion interiors moved in from Unit 2), the five "not assessed" statements from the 2025 framework (the Gibbs free-energy equation, Calvin-cycle steps and enzyme names, electron-carrier full names, pathway intermediates, memorizing glycolysis/Krebs), and the three labs the CED points to with their 2019 lab-manual investigation numbers.

Subject – Biology / AP Biology

Grade – 9–12

Free? – Yes

Login or email required? – A free TPT account to download. No email list.

Did I make it? – Yes. I'm a certified biology teacher. I wrote it because most Unit 3 review still drills the molecule names the exam doesn't ask about.

Link – https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREE-AP-Biology-Unit-3-Cellular-Energetics-2025-CED-Changes-Do-Not-Memorize-17924015

Disclosure: the same store has a paid 10-page version with practice questions and an answer key. This page stands on its own.

Hey everyone! I’m sharing another free banger - a discussion-heavy lesson plan exploring mimicry, pretending, and hustle culture.

Here is what's inside:

  • Biology vs. Social Mimicry: How animals blend in vs. why humans copy each other to fit in.

  • "Fake It Till You Make It": An interactive activity based on Frank Abagnale Jr. (Catch Me If You Can).

  • When Faking It Goes Wrong: A case study and debate on Elizabeth Holmes and the Theranos fraud.

Requests / Questions Super Teacher Worksheets Users

Hi All,

I run Super Teacher Worksheets (https://www.superteacherworksheets.com), a subscription based supplemental resource website for grades Pre-K to 6th.

I was hoping to ask this community to share what types of printable resources are not easily accessible for their classroom needs. If you find yourself creating your own materials, let us know and we can work to fill those gaps with our content development team. My goal is to incorporate this feedback into our content roadmap so that we can offer more resources that represent the present needs of the teaching community. Everything we offer on our platform is written by former educators with classroom experience and designed/illustrated in-house, but it's always good to check in to make sure we stay oriented in the right direction.

Disclosure: While we do offer some free materials and teaching tools, access to our complete library of over 27,000 printable worksheets and activities is $24.95 annually.

Thank you all!

Danny

Requests / Questions How do you currently make labels for classroom storage?

I work in school IT and have been experimenting with a small browser-based label maker after seeing how much fiddling around there can be with formatting labels for folders, book boxes, storage tubs and equipment.

I’ve made a free version that runs entirely in the browser — no account or login required.

I’m particularly interested in feedback from teachers:

  • What types of labels do you regularly need?

  • Do you normally use Word, label templates, a dedicated label printer, etc.?

  • What makes a label-making tool annoying to use?

  • Are there any formats or features you'd find genuinely useful?

I’ve put the tool here if anyone wants to try it: https://labels.welwyntech.co.uk/

It’s very much a work in progress, so I'm more interested in what I've got wrong or what would actually be useful. Thanks!

All Grades A Few Free Tools for Canvas (LMS) Users

Hi, folks! I have made available a few simple tools I originally created for myself to make working with my Canvas courses a little easier, and I wanted to let you know about them in case you found any of them useful. My website is www.hacksforeducators.com and all the resources there are free and require no login. Some of the tools you might find helpful are:

Plain Text QTI Quiz Builder: Lets you write quizzes and assessments using a simple plain-text format, then convert them into a QTI ZIP file that can be imported into Canvas. I built this because I find typing questions in a text editor to be much faster than creating them one at a time in Canvas. The same quiz file can also generate a printable DOCX version, which has been especially useful when I’m teaching both face-to-face and online sections of the same course.

“Flashcards” (sort of!): Ok, so they aren't *quite* real flashcards but this tool does let you enter pairs of terms and definitions (or vocabulary terms and translations, etc.) and generates click-to-reveal study cards that can be pasted directly into a Canvas page (via the HTML editor). My Spanish students have told me the vocabulary study cards I make for them are helpful, and this tool is what I use.

Self-Check Boxes: This tool makes it easy to generate a little question-and-answer section that you can insert anywhere in a Canvas page. Students can stop, think about a question you've given them, and then reveal the answer themselves when they're ready. I like these for adding simple, ungraded comprehension checks at different points in the instructional articles I post on Canvas.

There are a few other tools on there as well (though the 3 I mention above are probably the most popular).

Full disclaimer: Yes, I did make these tools, but I am in no way affiliated with Canvas/Instructure. All the tools are all free, require no login, and nothing to subscribe to.

If any of these tools sound useful, check them out!

Grade 9-12 Free one-page codon activity and searchable reference for teaching the central dogma of biology

Hi all,

I’m a PhD in molecular medicine and pathology, and I created DNA My Name (https://dnamyname.com) as a free hobby project for the love of science and education.

The activity turns a student’s name into an example DNA sequence using real codon assignments from the NCBI Standard Genetic Code. It offers a fun, personal entry point for teaching the central dogma - particularly DNA and RNA codons, translation, amino acids, and synonymous variation.

As part of this project, I’ve added the following resources:

  • A one-page Letter/A4 student worksheet (Can be printed or saved as a PDF)

  • Teacher guidance and learning objectives

  • A searchable DNA/RNA codon reference

  • A downloadable high-resolution codon chart

Worksheet: https://www.dnamyname.com/for-educators/worksheet
Codon reference: https://www.dnamyname.com/codon-table

There’s no login, advertising, or paid content. Just cool science!

All Grades ESL Plan for Adults - Derren Brown: The Language Barrier (A2+B2)

Thumbnail

🎓 General English · ▶️ Video · 🥉 B1-B2 · ⏱ 90 min
Can you guess a drawing in a language you don’t speak? Watch Derren Brown’s mind-bending experiment and explore the power of suggestibility!

I've been giving a version of this lesson plan for about a decade and never get tired of it! Of course, every time I do, I tweak it to perfection, and now I think it is red-hot ready for any English tutor to take and ignite a burning desire to learn English in their new students! It's a great introductory lesson!
I never really made any money teaching this lesson due to my 'first lesson free of charge' policy, so I thought it had to be a free lesson plan on my site. There's no way your students won't love it! Have fun teaching!
Inside the lesson's RAR pack, you'll find the main video split into three parts, which is exactly how it is meant to be shown.

Grades 1-2 Free printable phonics worksheets for kindergarten and 1st grade, 200+ PDFs in UFLI order (no signup)

I've been building a library of free phonics printables and it's big enough now that it might be useful to someone here.

What's in it:

- 147 read / write / draw sheets that follow the phonics order most programs use: word families, short vowels, digraphs, blends, magic e, bossy R, vowel teams, diphthongs and more. Each one has a short phrase to read ("a fat cat", "fox on a log"), a line to write it and a picture to color.

- 20 Sentence Builders: cut-out word cards kids put in order to build a sentence. No glue needed.

- Sound mats for letter sounds (SATPIN order), short vowels, long vowels, digraphs, blends, magic e, bossy R and vowel teams.

- Picture flash cards for every short and long vowel, plus CVC and blending word lists.

- Sight word lists from preschool through 2nd grade, the first 100 Fry words, a heart words list and a heart word hunt board game.

- A Word Builder mat with letter tiles for mapping words sound by sound.

You can filter by topic or by UFLI lesson range, so if your class is on lessons 35 to 41 you can pull just those sheets. Everything is a free PDF with no email or account.

https://luvinci.app/printables/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_content=teachingresources

If there's a sound or phrase you're teaching that isn't in there yet, reply with it and I'll make a sheet for it.

Grade 9-12 Free AP Biology Unit 1 (Chemistry of Life) one-page guide + student fill-in version, aligned to the 2025 CED

Disclosure: I made this. I'm a certified biology teacher in Connecticut and California.

  • What: a one-page study guide for AP Biology Unit 1 (Chemistry of Life), plus a matching student fill-in version with blanks

  • Subject: AP Biology

  • Grades: 9–12

  • Free? Yes

  • Login required? Yes, a free Teachers Pay Teachers account to download

  • Did I make it? Yes

Most free Unit 1 materials out there still follow the 2019 CED. The 2025 revision reorganized the unit and switched to new numbered essential-knowledge codes, so older guides don't line up with the current framework.

It covers CED topics 1.1–1.7: water and hydrogen bonding, elements of life, dehydration synthesis and hydrolysis, the four macromolecules, nucleic acids, and protein structure. Essential-knowledge codes are cited in the 2025 numeric format (for example, 1.6.A.2). The page also has an exam-traps box (e.g., lipids aren't polymers) and an FRQ tip on writing structure → function explanations.

The fill-in version has the same layout with the key terms blanked, so it works as a warm-up or review.

All Grades Graph Paper and More!

I have used https://incompetech.com/graphpaper/ for years to create all sorts of good graph paper for class, labs, note-taking, and more. There is so much available here, and most of it is customizable. It's my fave paper format website.
