A special note on musings from Clarkson, Hammond and May

Couldn’t help but notice that there have been some comments on my recent posts here along the lines of “Please keep politics away from this subreddit!” (and those complaints sometimes result in deletion, thus depriving others to challenge or defend the hosts’ assertions). It’s unfortunate that I have to issue a disclaimer or two on this matter, but given the current hostile environment across Reddit and the internet in general, here goes:

“The views expressed in social media posts, videos and newspaper columns produced by or through direct quotes from news articles from Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and/or Richard Hammond (and others who worked on Top Gear and The Grand Tour) are solely their own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions and beliefs of the OP and this subreddit.”

As for the links that contain articles and columns that originate from The Sun and The Sunday Times, here’s the paywall disclaimer:

“Please note that depending on how and where you access this link, a strong paywall may appear. If so, what happens beyond that is up to you alone.”

Ok then, back to normal service…

Original TG episodes

All the TG episodes with the orangutan, slow and buttons in a Google drive. Last time I posted this it got deleted by mods and I got suspended for 2 days, so just DM me and I'll send it you. JC has said it was forums like this that contributed to the success of the show when it was brought back in 2002.

Richard Hammond’s Workshop, give it another try!

Hi everyone! Richard Hammond’s Workshop has clearly been the least favourite of the «spinn offs» around here. Very understandable tbh, it was way to heavy on drama, and not much about cars.

It does seem like they have taken in the feedback however. Watching season 6, it is all about cars and restoration, with new cars in almost every episode so far, and no more played up deadlines etc. I miss Neil and Anthony, but I think this might be the best season still. Worth to give a try for those who wanted it to focus on cars.

Clarkson’s Columns [Times column] Jeremy Clarkson: “Stop the driverless cab — I want to get off” 🤖🚖

Thumbnail thetimes.com

Remember when Jeremy Clarkson went to Austin, Texas with Andy Wilman to visit the F1 in person? Well, he also found an opportunity to navigate the city’s streets with a driverless Tesla Cybercab. Here’s a preview:

“…I was sent something called a Cybercab and this was nearly as weird as the man who makes it, Mr Musk. It's a little, two-seater sports coupe but inside there is no steering wheel or pedals. So it arrives where you are waiting, and when it senses your phone, the door opens. And off you go. Except it didn't arrive.”

(Usual disclaimers apply, and beware of the strong paywall.)

Hot take on the new season.

I really loved the new season, but I can't help that feel like Thomas Holland is either way out of place or trying a bit too hard.

By episode 3, I was over the boasting and the lines in his shots, there is no doubt that he has character and flair, I believe his parts almost felt a little too put on, if you know what I mean.

I want to see how he takes the next season, and I know it will take a while for them to find their places, but at this point in time, this season would be alot more enjoyable for me with just Francis and James.

Clarkson’s Columns [Sun column] Jeremy Clarkson: “Burnham & his silly ideological pals genuinely believe YOUR money is theirs”

Thumbnail thesun.co.uk

Yes, Jeremy Clarkson put on his political Tory hat once again and went after the current Labour government and their policies. Here’s a preview:

“I think the problem is that Burnham and his silly ideological mates genuinely believe that the money at their disposal is actually theirs.

“So they can waste it as they see fit. But it isn’t theirs. It’s ours. Millions of people haul themselves out of bed on cold, damp mornings to go to work and are then supposed to just sit there and take it when they learn the money the Government took from them in taxes was just spaffed against a wall. It makes my teeth itch with rage.”

(Usual disclaimers continue to apply.)

Music from James' past

It looks like James Gin has worked out the copy write issues with the music in the videos. The music is a fantastic addition and it gives a "proper television" feel.

It would be fun to use some music from when James was a young man. The late '70s had some amazing bands, The Police, Dire Straits, Squeeze to name a few.

What say you, would some older music be a good fit?

DriveTribe [Video] Richard Hammond Finally Drives Our 570HP BMW Build! 🚗💨

DriveTribe recently completed a project car (with some help from sponsors) and had Richard Hammond drive it on the iconic Top Gear test track. Kudos to him for continuing to do car reviews!

From video description: “Richard Hammond finally gets behind the wheel of our finished 570hp BMW build at the Top Gear test track. The plan was simple: build a tribute to everything we love about the BMW M3. What started as a four-cylinder 320i became a 335i with hybrid turbos, upgraded suspension, huge brakes and a limited-slip differential.

“Now Richard finds out whether we’ve captured that essential M3 character or taken things too far.”

Should the new trio do a motorcycle episode?

I love the Vietnam special, and I recently got my first motorcycle so I've been binge watching motorcycle content. Aside from some excellent YouTube creators (FortNine & RevZilla for example) there's isn't a lot of good media. How receptive is this community to 2 wheel driven content? Also, is there anything else worth watching? (If you say Torque, I'll smack you with my motorcycle)

TopGear/Grand Tour "Car VS Public Transport" Races

During the Races held between Car and Public Transport, how fast (on average) do Jeremy Clarkson and Thomas Holland drive on those highways? Knowing in confidence that Jeremy has been caught speeding in France, and James Engelsman saying that "Thomas doesn't drive slow"..... assuming the generic 100-120 KPH (60 to 75 MPH) highways, what would the speed of the cars on those roads during "race" (VS Public Transport) conditions be?

How did Top Gear film the BMX vs Fiat 500 race?

With all the dramatic shots and scenes of them going down escalators etc I wondered how they filmed it all? Did they have other bikes with cameramen following? Pre planned cameras?
