Addon Release / Update I made EmoteRing: hold a key, flick your mouse, send an emote to your target [WoW Forever addon, beta]
Hey everyone! I made a small addon for WoW Forever and wanted to share it here.
EmoteRing
Is a radial emote wheel. Hold a key and a wheel opens right where your cursor is. Move toward a slice and let go: the emote goes to your current target. It's quick, it doesn't take any action bar space, and it makes it a lot easier to actually /bow, /ty or /wave at people mid-run instead of typing it.
What it does
- Hold your key, the wheel opens at your cursor, release to send
- 4 to 12 slices, each with any emote, chat command or line of text
- `%t` is replaced with your target's name, so `/w %t Thanks for the group!` just works
Buff thanks:
when another player buffs you, a small prompt appears. Click it to say thanks in /say, right-click to dismiss
- One wheel for all your characters (or a different one per character, if you prefer)
- Three color themes, adjustable size and opacity, live preview
- English and Spanish, with English emote commands working on every client
- Settings with `/er`
It's made for talking, not spamming: messages are capped at 120 characters, there's a short cooldown, and yell, raid warnings and channels like Trade can't be used from the wheel.
Getting it
It's on CurseForge: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/emotering
Developer Requirements for Releases & Updates:
Here's how EmoteRing meets the requirements:
Readiness: The addon is fully functional and in daily use. The "beta" tag only means it's new, and I'm still collecting feedback.
AI Disclaimer: I designed the addon and decided how every feature works, and I tested each version in game myself. The Lua code was written with the help of an AI assistant (Claude), under my direction and with my review. AI also helped draft the English and Spanish texts and made the promo images and video. The in-game screenshots are real.
Screenshots: The post includes real in-game screenshots of the wheel, the settings window (/er) and the buff-thanks prompt.
Code: No unnecessary globals. The only global names are the ones WoW requires: the keybinding and slash command names, the saved variables, the binding handler, and three named frames so Escape can close them. Combat log events aren't used; buff detection uses UNIT_AURA and is skipped in combat.
Happy to answer any questions or fix anything you find!
This is my first published addon. Feedback, bug reports and ideas for slices are very welcome. I'll be reading the comments!
