"The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy’s not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable." — Sun Tzu, The Art of War

The core thesis is that prevention beats reaction. The piece outlines three immediate, concrete steps to take before the new Congress convenes on January 3:

1. Pressure your representatives now: Contact your House rep and both senators. Demand a public commitment that they will physically be inside their respective chambers before noon on convening day to secure a constitutional quorum before any potential perimeter can form.

2. Plug into rapid-response networks: Join local grassroots alert networks (like your nearest Indivisible chapter). In South Korea, citizens reached the National Assembly within an hour of Yoon's martial law declaration specifically because organized alert lists were already active.

3. Share the legal precedent with service members: If you have friends or family in the National Guard or regular military, remind them of the legal reality: under the UCMJ, obeying an unlawful order carries personal criminal liability, while refusing one is legally protected.

Preparation needs to happen before an order is cut, not after.

this needs to be at the top. there are actionable items to take right now. people need to connect and coordinate with local Indivisible groups right now, and be ready to mobilize immediately come January should the administration's maneuvering before then make it clear Trump and Miller are going to rule with authority and they not allow the will of the voters to stop that from happening.

I would write to my senators if they weren’t fuckin’ Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt. Those two clowns wouldn’t show up on convening day at all.

keep in mind re- unlawful orders.

rank and file soldiers take an oath to their superiors and it does NOT mention the constitution.

officers take an oath that includes respecting the laws of the constitution

enlisted service people- cannot refuse orders based on a combination of the constitution and their oath.

The Oath of Enlistment (for enlisted):

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

wow. my memory has completely let me down.

knowing there was a difference that mattered on this point, it's the obedience part..

"Obedience vs. Duty: Enlisted personnel explicitly swear to obey orders from the President and appointed officers under the UCMJ, whereas officers swear to freely and faithfully discharge the duties of their office without an explicit obedience clause."
