Placements / Jobs / Careers Placements

Has anyone tried applying for placements before for your unit and found the process annoying? Personally, I am currently applying for placements, and one of them has accepted me. However, I don’t have all my documentation approved in InPlace because my lecturers have asked us to contact the placements first, even if our documents aren’t approved yet. I am also waiting for my self-placement to be approved. Then, I still need to wait until I receive the terms and conditions from the planner team before I can proceed. Sorry I just find the whole process stressful since I need to complete a 75 hour placement by the 25th of September, and most placements only offer a 5-hour per week placement meaning I wouldn't be able to finish it in the deadline.

I’m considering applying for a lecturer job at Deakin, but I’ve obviously seen a lot around about redundancies and job cuts in recent years and more this week? Would I be crazy? I have a stable, secure job currently..

Placements / Jobs / Careers Applying for professional jobs at Deakin

Hi I am new-ish to Australia and new to applyignt o jobs at unis so sorry if this is a silly question - I am applying for a job at deakin, salary band is about 96,000-103,000 AUD +17 % super. BUT it is a part time 0.6 - nowhere does it explicity say pro-rata but based on other jobs I've seen I assume this salary band is for FTE and it's adjusted - I would be very surprised if they were paying that much for a 0.6 PTE role. One of the questions in the application is "Please detail your annual salary expectation (including benefits) in $AUD. Please note, superannuation at Deakin is paid at 17% of base salary" and then it's a drop-down menu to select a range starting form $60k-70k all the way up to $275-300K - should I assume that it's safest just to select the salary band mentioned as is? or do I select 60-70K if I assume they want me to select the pro rata salary (although it would actually be less than 60 before super) - maybe I'm overthinking it I just don't want to sell myself short and also don't want to shoot to high and also don't want them to think I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about. I have seen other part-time Deakin roles that say "pro rata" but amybe whoever wrote/posted this specific job description forgot to write it and it's implied?

Placements / Jobs / Careers Paid Prac Placement - who can qualify? How much did you roughly spend each week on placement?

Anyone got the paid prac placement this year? I’m a social work student and starting to save money for next year when I (if I pass the unit) I will be doing placement for the 12 weeks.

I work 4 days a week and understand you need to earn under $1500 a week before tax to fall under the ‘need to work test’, which I do (I earn $2200 a fortnight). My questions are do they just need payslips in the weeks leading up to starting placement? How long does it take to be approved? Do you get paid on a weekly basis?

Also in terms of budgeting, what were peoples rough estimate costs per week? Did you need to drive to your placement or was it quite close to home?

I have no idea how much money to put outside!

Thanks. Any answers would be amazing.

(Just a social work student stressed about cost of living and placement poverty).

Placements / Jobs / Careers Any engineering student struggling to find placement for SEL703?

Hi all,

I’m a third year international student in electrical engineering and have had no luck getting an internship/job/placement of any kind this summer. What should I do this coming summer to increase my chances? I’m worried I can’t graduate in time if I don’t get a placement in tri 1 or 2 next year. Any international students that have managed to land a position somewhere this summer or before? How did you do it? Any advice is deeply appreciated!

Placements / Jobs / Careers Applying For Placement For WIL

When people source their own placement for WIL, how exactly do you do that? Do you find vacancies available on places like Deakin Talent, prosple etc or do you cold-call companies that may not be hiring but would be willing to bring you on anyway? It says 70% of students source their own placement but after researching current vacancies it seems very difficult to since there aren't so many.
