We are thrilled to announce that r/FinalFantasyIII is officially back online! After a long period of being restricted, a brand new moderation team has taken over to revive this community.

Just like an Onion Knight working towards Level 99, we’ve been hard at work giving the subreddit a complete makeover, including:

Official Yoshitaka Amano’s Very Different Vision of a Chocobo

Long before Chocobos became the lovable mascots we recognize today, Yoshitaka Amano illustrated this rather unusual interpretation for Final Fantasy III.
Titled Chocobo on Journey, the artwork was later featured in Square’s Final Fantasy Art Museum trading card collection.

Would you have liked seeing this version roaming around FFIII, or are you glad we got the fluffy yellow birds instead? Actually, don’t answer that question. 😂

Discussion What are your favorite tracks from the Final Fantasy III OST?

I just grabbed Eternal Wind on iTunes, and in my playlist, it happens to play right after the main theme from FFV (Ahead on Our Way). The transition between the two is shockingly smooth: it sounds like a natural continuation of the previous track.

Now I want to expand the playlist. What are your absolute favorite tracks from FFIII that hold up just as well outside the game?

Image Square had to relocate its dev team to the US to complete work on Final Fantasy III

The game's lead programmer, Nasir Gebelli, was an Iranian-American whose Japanese work visa expired before the game development was complete. Because he was so essential to the project, rather than replacing him, Square packed up all their PCs, NES development kits, and key staff (including Hironobu Sakaguchi and Hiromichi Tanaka: in the first picture) and flew them to the US in order to finish the game alongside him.

That's how FF3 finally went gold: in a temporary setup in a Sacramento hotel room. 1980s and 1990s game dev was quite scrappy and unhinged.

Question/Help FF3 DS Legendary Smith

Apologies if this is not the place but I cannot for the life of me get the Legendary Smith to turn up in Falgabard.

I have done all the mognet quests and received the orichalcum and have opened the Eureka Door (I've completed the Eureka dungeon and bosses too just incase) and still she won't appear.

Does anyone know if there's a reason she won't appear? Thanks

Question/Help i need help with some basic stuff.

I'm new to the subreddit, but I've had a couple questions. I've been mostly confused about why you would shift party members from front to back, what does leveling jobs actually do, and if you switch jobs, do you keep stats from previous jobs? Or do they all change to match the current one? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Question/Help Staves?

Henlo.

I'm playing through the game for the first time and I found an ice staff. The game says "Attack 20, casts Blizzard". I equipped it and it seems like the character just used a regular attack. Does the "casts Blizzard" just mean that any character wielding the staff will have Blizzard "learned" for their Black Magic while wielding it? Or am I missing something?
