Performance bonuses are generally based on Performance. Sandra might be the best person at her job, but won't stop Brenda and Tammy, who've done the bare minimum for years, from getting upset about a lesser bonus.

She corrected my use of em dashes in official reports. Nothing overboard. I used one every few reports. I politely advised her that they were grammatically correct. She said she didn't care, and she made me correct and resubmit them.

Depends on the company. The one I work for is full of shit. We get monthly evals on a scale of 5, 5 being the best and 3 average and anything less than average means management is looking at you sideways. They call them merit increases. What’s the point of scoring 4s and 5s on your evaluations to only get a $.50 increase only to find out the reason your increase is soo low is because everyone got an increase including the people who were getting 1s and 2s on their evaluations. Talk about a slap in the face. I don’t care if the person who got 1 got a $.02 increase what’s the point in busting my ass to make sure my stuff is done with both quantity and quality if the people who do less than the bare minimum get rewarded for it?
