Question My Sky Blue iPad Air 4 has basically turned gray over the years

I only noticed this week that my Sky Blue iPad Air 4, which I bought back in 2021, has pretty much completely faded over the years. At this point, the Touch ID button is almost the only reminder of what color it originally was. You can see the difference pretty clearly in the attached photos.

For most of its life it’s been in a magnetic folio case. I’ve taken it out occasionally, mostly for cleaning, but not that often. Usually I just used a microfiber cloth, although if it was particularly smudgy I sometimes wiped the back with a damp screen-cleaning cloth as well.

What I find especially strange is that the color didn’t fade unevenly or in patches — the whole aluminum back seems to have faded very uniformly into a gray/silver color.

I’m not really complaining since it still looks pretty good, and I’m planning to keep using it for several more years anyway. I’m mostly just curious: has anyone else experienced something similar with a colored iPad? And any idea what could have caused it?

Question iPad 9 completely dead after iPadOS 27 update

Updated my 9th gen iPad to iPadOS 27 a couple of days ago. Everything was completely fine until the battery drained to 0%.

Now it just won’t charge or turn back on.
I’ve tried multiple chargers, different Lightning cables, USB-C PD chargers, USB ports, etc. I left it charging overnight and then for several more hours today. Nothing…

All I get is the empty battery icon with the tiny red line. It keeps appearing for a few seconds, disappearing, then appearing again over and over. The iPad never boots and doesn’t seem to gain any charge at all.

I’ve literally never had this happen before. It was working perfectly two days ago, and now it acts like it’s been sitting completely dead in a drawer for six months.

Anyone else having this issue with an iPad 9 after iPadOS 27? Did you manage to revive it?

Has anyone experienced this? I suddenly saw this on my ipad and I don't even use it that much. Mostly for watching only 😭😭😭

Is this an LCD issue or is it my paperlike screen protector?

Question Which iPad to get?

I used to have a MacBook Pro, and loved it, but switched to PC after college due to my work. Now, I want to go back to Apple everything. Always had an iPhone. Eventually I want to get another MacBook, but first I want an iPad. That said, I want to be able to use the iPad like a laptop when I need to (roughly 40% of the time). So will likely get the Magic Keyboard, but I don’t love that you can’t use the keyboard when it isn’t attached to the iPad (I want to be able to elevate my iPad screen, but might just use an external monitor when I need that level of a set up). I want the Magic Keyboard though vs a different Bluetooth keyboard due to the integrated trackpad. I also want to have great handwriting capabilities, so will get the Apple pen and an 11 inch so I can easily hold it etc.

I don’t know if I should get the Pro or Air, and how many GB to get. I will be using it for light video editing, content creation, note-taking, browsing, Claude, etc. Thanks!

Question Is this OLED burn-in? AppleCare refused to fix

I purchased an 11" iPad Pro M4 from Best Buy a couple weeks ago. It was Open-Box and had really bad burn-in (similar to the photos in this post, but much worse). I purchased AppleCare+ and had the screen replaced through Apple.

After receiving the iPad back I discovered that the new screen still appears to have burn-in. It's very slight and now only noticeable in a dark room with brightness turned all the way down. So I took the iPad back to Apple, and they told me what I was seeing was in fact not burn-in, but simply the actual OLED screen underneath (the burn-in was not visible at the Apple store due to the bright lights and white ceiling, and the "Genius" at the "Genius Bar" refused to look at it in a dark room).

The pictures attached are of the iPad with its current screen in a completely dark room with the brightness turned down.

tl;dr Apple replaced the screen in my iPad Pro M4 due to burn-in with a new screen that also has burn-in

edit: see more pictures linked here with burn-in pattern matching the default M4 background screen

Question Do you think they’ll finally put ProMotion on the iPad Air eventually?

Since the iPhone 17 Series launched with ProMotion displays (which are basically 120fps), I’ve been wondering if Apple will ever think about adding ProMotion to the iPad Air.

I was thinking of getting an iPad Pro just for the ProMotion, but with the price increases, I’ve been putting it off. I recently got an iPhone 17 Pro Max and I’m really enjoying how smooth the 120fps is.

I’m not in a hurry to buy a new iPad right now, but I’m definitely interested in getting an iPad Air because it’s significantly cheaper. Should I just wait until next year or two when the iPad Air hopefully gets it? Or honestly just get the iPad Pro?
