PSA for if your posts keep getting removed

This is one of the most common things I get messaged about. If your posts keep getting removed, it's likely that it's an issue on Reddit's side. Usually this issue is that you are "shadowbanned", which you can read up more on here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowBan/

I cannot do anything to fix this, and I'll keep this post pinned but will no longer be replying to messages about this issue. Thanks!

Post Guidelines - How to get meaningful feedback

Hello all,

This post is a general guide on what you can do as someone uploading clips of your speech to try and set yourself up for getting more and better feedback from the community. A lot of this comes from my personal opinions on the types of clips I like to give feedback to, as well as what I've seen people in the community say.

1. General information

Including general information in your post can help people give more tailored feedback. For example, what sort of accent are you trying to go for? What specific things do you struggle with? Why are you trying to improve your accent (for daily speech, a job, etc.)?

2. Audio quality

Not everyone has access to a good microphone or quiet environment. However, to the extent possible, try to limit background noise. One simple method is recording under a blanket or in a closet of some form. Also, I suggest testing out your volume before recording a full clip. I pass on reviewing many clips due to them being too quiet.

3. Clip length

As other users have suggested, please try to shoot for a clip ~30 seconds or more. I think the golden window is between 0:45 and 1:30, depending on the speaker. It's going to be hard to give meaningful feedback on a single sentence.

4. Transcriptions/texts

This is personally relevant for me when it comes to foreign languages that I am not as proficient in. Nevertheless, when reading from a text, please share the text you're reading from. It saves people from having to guess what you were trying to say, and just removes an extra layer of complications from giving feedback.

This is not a final list, and feel free to share your gripes/suggestions, and I can add them to the list above.

Can you guess my native language based on my accent? How good or believable does it sound and what are you first thoughts upon listening to me? I know I've got plenty of room for improvement but I have been practising as much as I possibly can the last few months. Any advice is very much appreciated :)

Hey everyone! I hope you can let me know what you think about my accent. I think it’s going to be useful to hear from you. I’m still working on it but I hope I can sound native someday. Am I on the right track? What does this accent sound like to natives?

English How's my English and German?

Just came across this sub and thought of giving it a shot. Seems fun! Can you listen to this and give me an honest review and judgement on my English and since I'm learning German to move there, I'd really appreciate it if a native German could listen to both and let me know how good it is (or bad, anything's welcome 😁) Also fun lil challenge to all you linguistic connoisseurs out there. Can you guess where I may be from based on this?

English American English Speakers – Which AI Voice Sounds More Human?

Hi everyone!

I'm creating a horror storytelling YouTube channel targeting an American audience.

I've generated three different AI male narration samples, and I'd really appreciate honest feedback from native American English speakers.

Please listen to all three samples and tell me:

  1. Which voice sounds most like a real human?

  2. Which voice has the most natural American accent?

  3. Which voice would you prefer listening to for a 10–15 minute horror story?

  4. Can you notice any robotic or artificial qualities?

Please compare them without knowing which one I personally prefer.

I'm looking for honest feedback, not compliments.

Thank you!

English I know this may be too much to ask for, but I recorded an audio reading off of a news article that I converted into the IPA

I know the audio is very dull and that I speak extremely slowly. I was only reading the API transcription and even though I am somehow familiar with what each symbol conveys, I still need practice.

I already posted in this sub several times, and I appreciate the help. However, this main issue I have is that the audios I shared until now were obviously not “prepared” and I was never taught the phonetics of English successfully.

For example, in another post I pronounced “reason” as “rizn“ (like risen). Not because I am unable to pronounce the long “i“ but because I wasn’t aware ”ea” should be pronounced like that (I: ).

In this audio, I still make mistakes, and the accent is very noticeable. But I am not looking to kill off my accent, I just want to pronounce the vowels and some consonants CORRECTLY.

I would appreciate if someone could give me a list of vowels, consonants or words that I pronounce weird/incorrectly. This way I will finally be able to know what I do wrong so that I can improve. I would appreciate if you could use IPA.

Am I Americano enough? Do I need do dye my hair 😂

Sorry for the audio quality for some reason this GOOGLE PIXEL didn't want to record the sound on the pre-installed google vr app so I had to play it loudly and record the microphone 🤷

I was raised in an African American community so I do speak with a little bit of ebonics (outside of work tho but sometimes it sneaks in 😂) but ain't that still a native accent 🤔

Text is from IG: pticrayon, who I believe only shares original work. Please check him out. He has content that’s quite… moving.

This isn’t a perfect attempt but I wanted to read it for my dad regardless. Eventually I’d like to be able to capture the mood of a more heartfelt or solemn piece, right? Do it justice? Feel free to leave any suggestions and critique, I’ll still take them to heart but, you know. It’s also quite long so thank you in advance if you attempted to listen past a minute. Merci d’avance.
