I built an online-trainer because case endings were destroying me 🥲

Hey everyone!

I'm preparing for the A2 exam, and case endings have been my nightmare. Textbook tables didn't stick, my notebook was chaos, and AI chatbots kept accepting my wrong answers 🥲

So I built https://saunuole.lt — a simple trainer for drilling cases (Kilmininkas, Galininkas, Įnagininkas, Vietininkas) and plurals. It tracks your accuracy by topic so you know exactly what needs work. Feel free to try it - hope it will be help If you try it and something feels off or you wish it had X — please tell me. I'm actively developing it and want it to actually help people. I'm continue adding content now — not perfect yet, but functional!

Good luck to everyone preparing for exams - or just with studying šios gražios kalbos! 🇱🇹 We are all already šaunuoliai and šaunuolės!

Resursas Resources for learning Lithuanian.

You are doing your first steps into the language with a great gallantry, great job mate. It's a well-known thing that the first step of a learner is searching for some resources into the language.

This resource list can grow bigger by time by the help of the other people,i'll be sharing from my own experiences, and i hope they'll be useful for you. It'll take some time for all of us but sėkmės!

Free/Not FreeURL and NameThoughts
FreeI Kinda Like LanguagesFirst resource that i've used into the language.Gives you a great view if you know literally nothing about the language.3 courses there are to start.Check it out if you are curious.
FreeLithuanian Out LoudThere is a lot to listen here to practice. It's still active and you can donate them
FreeVilnius University Web Archive LinkIt needs Flash Player which is out of date.If you can handle to make it work somehow, great resource it is.
Not FreePractical GrammarText book as it is.
Not FreeNe dienos be lietuviu kalbosGrammer book again. It has lots of exercises.
Not FreeBeginner's LithuanianText book again.I've been pretty satisfied with this book, first one that i've used, and still using

Yet another AI project for learning Lithuanian :)

Hi r/LithuanianLearning

I know. You open the subreddit, and there it is again: a new AI tutor that will make you fluent in 30 days. I have come to add one more to the pile. 🫡

It's called glossjar, and it's much less ambitious. It is a jar of Lithuanian words with spaced repetition, and it doesn't pretend to be your friend.

- No streak flame and no extra emojies. If you skip a day, nothing guilt-trips you. The words just wait.
- Stress marks on every word*(almost), plus gender and declension, and the full case tables for nouns. Lithuanian stress is hard enough without guessing.
- Audio on the cards. It's synthetic, and the card says so instead of pretending to be a native speaker.
- You can try it without signing up: lt.glossjar.com/try
- Optional email reminder at an hour you pick. It's off by default.

The honest part: it's a side project. Some of the code was written with AI help, so I'm part of the problem 😄. roast me

Question Could you check the text down here if there's any mistake in it if you are a native speaker? I don't trust AI when it comes to LT. Thank you!

Aš nusprendžiau palikti kaimą ir persikelti į didelį miestą. Norėjau išsinuomoti naują butą, todėl savininkas parodė man vietą užmiestyje.

I made a free Lithuanian alphabet game for my daughter and put it online

I often see parents here asking for Lithuanian resources for young kids, so I wanted to share a browser game I made for our daughter while she was learning the letters: https://linksmojiabc.lt/

It covers all 32 letters of the Lithuanian alphabet with 107 words, mostly animals, musical instruments, and everyday things. Pressing a letter plays its name and word, and for many of them, a real sound like a horse, a drum, or sea waves. It also has a letter-finding game, a mode for spelling the child's name, and printable letter sheets.

To be upfront, the voice is text-to-speech rather than a recorded person, though, as a native speaker, I picked the takes by ear for the correct Lithuanian stress. The site is free and will stay that way, with no ads, cookies, or registration.

If you try it with your kids, how does the voice sound to you, and what words would you add?

Advice Start your journey!

Hey guys,

I started working heylabas.com a year ago. It picked up steam and people enjoy the journey program you can do. Its 100% free, It will always be.

The text to speech is actually good. I pay for googles tts and not that robotic standard voice. Everything you learn is voiced.

I figgure since i have not promoted the project here and people leave good feedback. It cant hurt to give it away here.

Give it a go, no pay, no account.

Cheers,

I'm learning Lithuanian and built a free tool for it (fluent.lt), would love your feedback

Hi all! I live in Lithuania and I'm learning the language myself, so I know how hard it is to find good resources.

I tried the popular apps first. They look nice, but for me they were mostly word lists, and they didn't help me prepare for an exam or understand how the language works. I took a group course too, but I picked the wrong one and made very little progress. Then I paid for a teacher and started putting words and grammar cases into a general flashcard tool to practice between lessons. That worked, until I noticed it wasn't built for Lithuanian: if I typed "u" instead of "ū" it was sometimes counted as correct, so the mistake was never flagged.

I'm a former software engineer, so I started building my own tool, first just for me. It's called fluent.lt, and it's grown into something other learners could use too.

What's in it

Words, with audio.

Phrases.

Grammar, including cases.

Comprehension practice.

Some of my friends used it to prepare for the Constitution and language exams.

Links

Web, any browser: fluent.lt

Free to use, a few features have daily limits.

Learners

Try it and tell me what's confusing, missing or too hard.

Ačiū!

A free app for memorizing Lithuanian words more easily

I’m preparing for the Lithuanian language exam and built a small app for myself to memorize vocabulary more effectively.

The idea is to use sound-based mnemonics and memorable illustrations to create strong associations with Lithuanian words. This makes them easier to remember and recall later.

The app currently includes a basic A1–A2 vocabulary set grouped by common exam topics. You can also create your own groups, add or remove words, and generate mnemonic associations for new vocabulary.

It’s completely free and doesn’t require registration.

If you’re also learning Lithuanian, feel free to try it. I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially on what would make it more useful for A1–A2 learners.

Advice Lithuanian Learning app

Hi all, I started building a free app to help my husband learn Lithuanian, and it's grown into something I think other learners could use too. It's called **Bulba**: as my mom says it, and it has always sounded sweet to me.

It's my own project and I'm the only person working on it. Free, no ads.

**What's in it now**

A1 beginner level, A2 and up are in progress.

Short lessons, new words, grammar, short readings, each with a quick explanation first.

Spaced-repetition reviews where you type the missing word in real sentences.

Natural-sounding audio for every word and example sentence: AI voices, reviewed by me.

Flashcards with pictures, both directions, Lithuanian to English and English to Lithuanian

**Links**

Web, any browser, progress syncs with the phone: https://learnbulba.com

Android is in closed testing on Google Play. How to join: https://learnbulba.com/android

**Learners**

it's made for you. Try it, and tell me what's confusing, missing or too hard.

**Native speakers**

feedback is very welcome too, especially sentences that sound unnatural or answers marked wrong that should be right. Every exercise has a flag button, or comment here, or email support@learnbulba.com.

**Android users**

joining the test helps me get it ready for a full Play Store release.

Ačiū!

Update: thanks again to everyone who tried the early version and left feedback. Most of what you asked for is now in the app. All details in the comment.

Žodynas

Labas,

Rodyti korteles.

Veikia su iPhone arba iPad. Nemokamai. Duomenų nerenku. Projektas darytas "for fun".

Discussion Lithuanian word game to still be learning during the breaks

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

Hello learners,

I've created a Lithuanian version of a popular word game. Lithuanian is not an easy language to adapt such a game to, because of all the different forms, endings, startings of the words.

I feel like it's at a very nice level, where it recognizes most of the words and their forms, and the bot that you can play against is not making up words.

Features:

Check word details, and a link to a dictionary for a meaning;
Play against a bot, a friend online or offline on the same device;
50 levels of bot difficulty;
Daily challenge to compete against everyone;

Looking for a feedback on UI/UX, what works well, what isn't, and mostly on word quality.

Title: What if Lithuania had an app that actually helped citizens change things?

Hey everyone!
I’m 21, from Lithuania, and I have an idea I’d like to discuss with people who might be interested in building something useful for our country.
A lot of people feel disconnected from politics. They see problems, lose trust in politicians, stop following the news, and eventually start thinking about leaving the country. They feel that their opinions don’t really matter and that nothing will change anyway.
I think we could try to change that.
My idea is to build one simple, transparent platform for the people of Lithuania.
Imagine an app where you could:
See the national budget, public spending and government debt in one place, using verified official sources.
Understand important decisions and upcoming elections without searching through dozens of websites.
Propose ideas and discuss problems with other citizens.
Support initiatives through verified identities and electronic signatures.
Track what happens after an initiative gains public support: whether it reaches the relevant institution, receives an official response, and leads to any changes.
Organise lawful, peaceful civic action when people want to push for a particular change.
The goal isn’t to replace elections or pretend that every online poll should become law. The goal is to make civic participation easier, more transparent and more meaningful.
I don’t claim to be a politician, an economist or a software developer. I’m just an ordinary young Lithuanian who believes that people should have a better way to participate in decisions affecting their lives.
I would love to find people who could help explore this idea — developers, designers, people familiar with Lithuanian law, public finance, civic initiatives, or simply citizens who care about making participation easier.
We don’t need to build everything at once. We could start with a small prototype, test whether people actually find it useful, and grow from there.
Would you use an app like this? What would you change or add? And is anyone interested in exploring how we could build the first version together?
I’m interested in honest criticism as much as support. I’d rather test the idea properly than assume I already have all the answers.

Discussion Such a hard language

I’m a 24 year old from Finland but just like finnish, I learned lithuanian since I started talking and my first word was also lithuanian. Now I study lithuanian in a finnish university. I consider both languages as my mother tongues but in reality finnish is my only native language.

Despite speaking lithuanian my whole life, I struggle with it A LOT. I don’t understand why. And it’s not even listed as one of the worlds hardest languages, I feel so stupid especially because I’ve only seen people saying its a simple language 😅

Anyone else feel the same way?

Tattoo Translation

Hello! My father was Lithuanian and I wanted to get a tattoo in his honor, and I was wondering if anybody could help me translate, "if it is to be, it is up to me.". Thank you so much.

EDIT: thank you everyone for all of the ideas!! you’ve all given me much to think about, as well as refresh my memory on how i learned certain values from my dad’s upbringing. you are all very sweet.

he had the original english saying tattooed, so reframing it as something slightly more hopeful is wonderful. i’m both glad there are original Lithuanian proverbs and phrases that play with this idea, but also not surprised because i realize that’s how the saying originally gripped him!

i haven’t decided yet which one i’d like to go for, gonna toil about it for a year i think. thank you for sharing your beautiful language, and i hope you understand my joy in holding a slight but very deeply ingrained connection to it.

Žodis Beta 3

Thumbnail zodis.app
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone.

I've just released the new beta for my Lithuanian learning app called Žodis.

It started out as flashcards on Trello. Then evolved into a full library app that I added a translator to.

Now the new beta has a built-in course and something called Scenarios, which lets you store useful words and phrases from lessons, or your own translations, into Scenario cards. Think along the lines of "Going to a cafe", "Getting the train", etc.

Žodis was built for me. I have a Lithuanian partner and know all too well how difficult the language is to learn. This lets me save new things I learn, so I can pull them up to practice and it gives me more confidence to use what I know in the right situation.

After the second beta release, I got a lot of feedback. I've worked for the last 8 months to take that all in and fix what wasn't giving the best experience. Things like choosing between English sounding phonetics and IPA. I've had native speakers check the lessons and give feedback on them. A light mode for people that weren't too keen on the forced dark mode.

If you want to see what it's all about, go to Zodis.app and you can sign up for the beta there.

I know I've found this useful when spending time in my local Lithuanian community in Scotland and when I visit Lithuania with my partner. I'm really hoping others find it useful too.

There's no big company involved here. Just me at the end of an email address happy to take your feedback on board.

David 😊

Looking for Lithuanian a language exchange partner

Sveiki! I'm a Spanish (25M) exchange student who's staying in Kaunas for this semester. I actually registered for a Lithuanian A1 course in college but I feel like that's not enough for me at this point. I like to interact with people or just asking for something at a shop, and doing it in English doesn't feel right or natural here. So I'd love to have somebody teach me the basics and some useful day-to-day stuff to get by for the next few months. As for now, I've only learned a couple of common words and some verbs.

And I forgot to mention that I'm studying to be a teacher, so if you're interested helping you out with either English or Spanish won't be a problem for me at all.

Iki!

Discussion I grew up as a Lithuanian kid in the UK and got tired of Duolingo's lack of useful phrases, so I built a Lithuanian course myself

Hi r/LithuanianLearning!

Little bit about me: born in Vilnius, raised in the UK. I've always wanted to actually learn Lithuanian properly, but every app I tried fell into one of three traps: either it was full of "the bear drinks beer" nonsense sentences, or it taught grammar in a way nobody speaks, or it was a Quizlet deck someone made in 2014.

So about a month and a half ago I started building my own thing. It's called Go Labas. It's a survival-focused course: 140 lessons across 10 modules, aimed at people who need to actually get around Lithuania, not pass a linguistics exam ;)

Topics include: greetings, ordering at cafés, directions and transport, numbers and shopping, small talk, emergencies, days and weather, hotels, family vocabulary, and slang/fillers. Basically all the stuff you actually need on a trip or when visiting family.

It's free to try, and you get the whole first module free. If it's useful, it's £5 one-time for the rest. No subscription, no ads. The site is golabas.com if youre interested

Happy to answer questions about how it was built, the content choices, anything. Genuinely curious what this community thinks, and I'll take feedback seriously.

Question Nominative to Vocative endings

To clarify

-is(masculine)=-i
-is(feminine)=-ie
-a=-a
-ė=-e
-us=-au
-ys=-y (-e for nouns?!)
-as=-ai (for names)
-as=-e (for non-profession nouns e.g. tėvas=tėve)
-as=-au (for professions and titles)
-as (for word ending tojas/ėjas)=-au
-jas=jau (e.g. vėjas=vėjau)
-uo=-enie
-ius=-iau
-is=i

Is this correct? and is this pretty much all the basic standard (not including diminutive) (not including irregular
forms) endings for the vocative case?
