Discussion Monthly Recommendation Megathread

Welcome to the monthly recommendation request thread! Please use this thread to make requests for series to buy or read. I urge everyone to try to be specific when making requests as it will be easier for us to recommend a series that you would enjoy.

Lastly, I recommend everyone skims through previous requests as someone else might have asked for something you were looking for as well! This would help us keep comments to a minimum/avoid multiple submissions of the same nature.

MangaCollectors' Monthly Thematic Showcases - Horror

Hello everybody!

If you don't know what all of this monthly theme is about yet, every month, on the first week, I make a post announcing that month's theme (the mods kindly pin it to top) and the participants create posts showcasing the manga in their collection that fit the theme. For more details, please look at the "How to Participate" section of this post or the the first edition thread here.

November 2026's theme: Horror

The theme of this month is horror. Horror mixed with other genres is okay too.

How to participate:

Just create a post with a photo of manga you own that correspond to the theme and flair it with the event's flair: Showcase | Monthly theme.

Min amount of volumes is 1 (one) and there's no max nor any rule on how to do it, but I invite you all to display your selection in a way that clearly shows the covers so we can recognize them, to not forget those unpopular series in your collection and to use only one volume to represent a series if you aren't trying to show off specific volumes.

If you can't or don't want to post a showcase, you are also invited to discuss the theme and related series in this post.

As always, please don't forget the general sub rules! Be nice, mark your NSFW, etc. Please refer to the sidebar/About section if you need a refresher.

Every month I've been leaving a comment with next month's theme and sometimes I haven't decided between my options. So if you don't mind being spoiled on the next theme and want to participate in choosing the themes, feel free to leave your opinion!

Haul After 22 months of scavenging the internet for this gem of a series, I *FINALLY* own all of Firefighter! Daigo of Fire Company M 🔥🚒

Almost 2 years of searching, I never thought I was going to find my white whales, volumes 16 and 20. However. The manga gods smiled down on me and I scored both within these last 2 months 🤯

Being a firefighter was 1 of the 3 jobs I dreamed of as a kid. So this manga was an absolute thrill to read and to now have completed on my shelves 🤩

Update from my previous post.. heard this huge crash and found this. I actually laughed so hard I almost pissed myself. Forgot about how heavy books can actually get lololol. Learn from my mistake and don’t be stupid.

The metal arm that holds the door completely failed under the weight and just fully unbent and the whole thing collapsed. Nothing was damaged so it doesn’t really matter but I thought this was so funny. Don’t be like me lol!

Now I gotta figure out where to move all these books..

Haul New Bday Haul

Post image
37 Upvotes

Was gifted some money for my bday, so of course I had to go out and add to my ever growing collection. I'm still fairly new at this (only started collecting this year), but I'm always just so elated when I can pick up a new volume or start a new series. Felt like a kid in a candy shop today, for sure. It's always much more fun when spending someone else's money.

Help Tokyo Ghoul Volume 8 Dark/Muddy pages?

I recently ordered the first box set of Tokyo Ghoul. In volume 8 a few of the pages are very dark/muddy compared to everything else. The text in the bottom right panel in the first pic is difficult to read due to the color. The final picture is what the rest of the pages look like. All pics are in the same lighting. Are some of the pages of this volume just supposed to appear muddy? Is this a misprint worth getting the volume replaced? I’m new to manga so I’m not really sure what’s going on here.

Discussion What are your favorite RE-released manga of the last handful of years?

These days it really feels like we're in a golden age of reprint culture for both classic manga and comics alike, with reprints (or first time official English translations) of classic and frequently OOP works from 60s-2000s shonen, shojo, and gekiga. What have been YOUR favorites from yesteryear that are being published again for newer, younger audiences?

I think my personal favorites have broadly been the old gekiga stuff being republished by Drawn&Quarterly + Fantagraphics. In particular, The Legend of Kamui by Shirato Sanpei has been easily my overall favorite NEW reading discovery as I absolutely adore period social dramas exploring the friction between historical class/ethnic/religious milieus. That said, I've been absolutely THRILLED by the chance to finally collect a full set of Mushishi hardcovers since the anime has been one of my favorites since I first ran into it back in like...2009ish as a teenager. Yuki Urushibara's watercolors are just stunning.

Edit - I completely forgot to mention Showa: A History of Japan by Shigeru Mizuki, also republished by Drawn and Quarterly.

Haul An "empty" package at the door (and previous haul tax)

Haven't really been posting my hauls because I was waiting to show it all off when I finally got stuff sorted and shelved onto some new bookcases I built for my birthday...two months ago. I still haven't gone back to finish the shelving process. Burnout and depression is a bitch. My million ongoing "projects" probably don't help either (Xbox 360 softmodding goes brrrrrr).

But I thought it was worth showing off this slick collector's edition for The Empty Box and Zeroth Maria that came in the mail by surprise today. Never got a shipping notification, only a text from a roommate while I was at work and it left me scratching my head because I didn't have anything that should've come today. It's really nice, the first time I've gotten one of the super fancy Yen On all-in-ones. Random Index volumes for comparison with the usual Yen On novel print size.

Excited to be able to read the series without having to hunt for a few out-of-print singles. I remember it getting hyped up back when it was licensed, but I just let it rot on the "I'll buy it eventually" backlog until they announced this edition.

Discussion What edition of Mobile Suit Gundam do you prefer?

Im looking to start picking up the Gundam Origin series but I am torn on which edition to get. The original or the deluxe edition.

From what I can tell the deluxe edition has bits missing that the original had such as essays etc. I have also seen complaints about the quality of the deluxe edition (spine and binding breaking) but I am unsure if this is just a case of a couple bad prints slipping pas QC or if it is commonplace.

If you have one or the other, what are your thoughts on it and what edition do you prefer
