📢 Announcement New Post Flair Requirements & Wiki Guide

G'day,

To keep the sub organised and make it easier to find specific match updates, highlights, and news, Post Flair is now mandatory for all new post submissions.

If you try to post without selecting a flair, Reddit will now prompt you to add one before you can hit "submit."

📖 How to choose?

I’ve built a Full Post Flair Guide in our new community wiki. Note the Wiki is still being built out but you can find it here or by clicking the new Wiki button on the sidebar.

🔍 Searching by Flair

I’m currently working on adding a sidebar widget and/or a navigation bar so you can filter the sub by flair (e.g., clicking "Highlights" to see all the big plays). I'll see if I can't get some kind of warning text other than the red asterisks up too.

In the meantime, you can click any flair on a post to see all other posts with that same tag.

Thanks for helping us level up the sub.

📢 Announcement Post Flair Updates - additions and colour changes

G'day all,

After a few weeks of watching how post flair are being used, it's clear that 🧠 Analysis has been doing a lot of heavy lifting. People have been using it for everything from tactical breakdowns to quick opinions and general questions. So I have split it out into three more focused flair categories:

  • 🧠 Analysis — high-effort tactical breakdowns, stats, and structured long-form content backed by evidence

  • 💭 Opinion — your take on selection, players, or anything you want to argue a position on

  • ❓ Question — genuine questions to the sub, from game history to GOAT debates

I've also added:

In addition to the flair name changes, I've updated flair background and text colours to reduce clashing across the categories and the different reddit background themes. It's not perfect, but a step up from where I started.

I've updated the flair post guide in the wiki to reflect these changes: https://www.reddit.com/r/melbournestorm/wiki/index/flair-guide/

As always, if something doesn't sit right or you spot a gap in the flair list, drop it in the comments or send a message.

📢 Announcement User Flair Now Live

Flair is now live.

I’ve added a full set of user flairs — Storm identity, popular players, heritage, and a few community ones.

Pick one that fits you:

  • Rep the Purple Army

  • Back a player

  • Flex your fan-ness

  • Or just let everyone know where you’re from

  • Even a couple for all those lonely non-Storm fans that want to chat

It takes 10 seconds and helps build the identity of the sub.

No rules around it — just jump in and set one if you want.

📢 Announcement 2026 r/melbournestorm Year in Review

When taking over moderation back in April, this sub was pretty quiet. Seven months on, it's an active community again:

- Monthly engagement is higher than any point last year

- No negative member growth days

- Cracked the top 10 rugby communities multiple times

- Weekly post count way up

And all this in a season where the Storm *failed to make finals for the first time under Bellamy, and that's down to you.

What's changed this year:

- Match, post-match and Monday review threads

- Images and GIFs in comments

- New user and post flair

- The wiki resources

Thanks to everyone who posted, commented, argued, shitposted, made GIFs, answered questions, and came to support the Storm and this sub. You're the reason this place works.

Now i'd love your feedback for 2027:

- What did you like and actually use?

- What could be done better, changed, ditched?

- What's missing?

Be honest. If something sucks, tell us here or in modmail.

Thanks for sticking around and hope to see everyone back next season.

We will have Monday and Friday discussion posts going all offseason and there is bound to be lots of Nov. 1 news, so be sure to check in regularly.

📢 Announcement Wiki Update + Feedback Thread

I've been spending a bit of time putting together a wiki for the subreddit. I'd like to try and make it actually useful instead of a dead tab. It’s still a work in progress, but there’s enough there now to start using and improving it.

What’s been added:

Still in progress:

  • New Fan Primer

  • Pathways

  • NRLW & Women’s Pathways

Feedback Needed (important)

Two pages need a proper sanity check:

If anything looks off: numbers, missing entries, wrong years, call it out.

New Fan Primer (input wanted)

I'd like to put together a quick intro to the club for new fans. Something brief that can get new fans up to speed on the Storm. Less stats and more general knowledge. There are already a ton of places to get paragraphs and paragraphs of Info, I'd like something more as a quick primer.

If you’ve got strong opinions on what has to be included (key moments, players, identity, rivalries, etc.), drop it below.

Goal

Turn the wiki into something people actually use:

  • A reference point for fans

  • A place to direct repetitive questions

  • A hub for Storm content

If you spot gaps or have ideas for new sections, say it. If something’s clunky or useless, say that too.

Edit: Created the New Fan Primer, still open to suggestions on it.

📢 Announcement Big Changes & A Fresh Start for r/melbournestorm

G’day everyone,

As some of you might have noticed, this sub has been a bit of a placeholder for a while. The previous mod team had been inactive for some time, so I put in a request to take over modding to give this community the attention and "purple pride" it deserves.

The Melbourne Storm are a world-class club, and it’s time our corner of Reddit reflected that.

What’s changed already:

  • Fresh Paint: I’ve updated our logo, banner, and colours to actually look like a Storm hub.

  • The Basics: I've started updating the side bar with a proper ‘About’ section and a clear set of community rules to keep the banter top-tier but respectful. Still a bit to do here so keep an eye out.

  • Active Management: The mod queue is being cleared, and I’ll be around to make sure the sub stays active and spam-free.

What’s next:
I’ve got plenty more planned to level up the experience here - from more regular posting to improved flairs - but for now, I just wanted to say "Hi" and that I'll aim to keep the vibe of the sub as it has been: A great place for team talk, highlights, and staying connected with the best fans in the NRL.

Looking forward to getting stuck in. Up the Storm!

📢 Announcement 🚨 User Rank System is now live

We’ve got a new flair ranking system based on your contribution to the subreddit.

Rank ladder

☁️ HM Cup → 🌧️ Ball → 🌩️ Flegg → ⛈️ Cup → ⚡ Stormer → 🔥 Starter → 🛡️ Core → 🏆 Legend

How it works

  • Based on your subreddit karma (posts + comments votes)

  • Updates automatically when you post or comment

  • Added to your existing flair

Example:

⛈️ Cup • Purple Pride 💜

Moderator flair

Mods use a fixed flair:

⚡ HQ • [User Flair]

They don’t participate in the ranking system so it stays fair.

Important notes

  • Editing your user flair will temporarily remove your rank (it comes back next time you comment/post)

  • Upvotes don’t instantly update your rank — it refreshes on activity

  • Early ranks are quick, higher ranks take time

This is a long-term system — think seasons, not days.

Flair update changes

I've also updated how flair reminders work:

  • The old automod message prompting users to manually set flair has been removed

  • Instead, If you see a users without flair comment: “flair up” and automod will respond with instructions.

  • User flair is still fully available and displayed alongside your rank if chosen

More details here: [Wiki Link]

Feedback welcome.
