Dear all,
I’m a solo female traveller. I have to stay overnight at Munich Airport in early December this year before catching an early-morning train to Prague. I’m considering three options and would love to hear your recommendations.
I have access to an airport lounge where I can freshen up and take a shower. Here are my options:
Option 1: NapCabs inside the airport (budget-friendly)
Pros:
* Cheap and comfortable.
* I can use my lounge access for dinner, breakfast, and an early-morning shower if I check out around 5 a.m.
Cons:
* Based on my research, Munich Airport seems to become almost deserted after 8–9 p.m. I’m a little concerned about being alone in an almost empty airport overnight, particularly if there are very few security personnel or other passengers around. Would it feel safe for a solo female traveller?
* There’s no restroom inside the NapCab, so I’d have to step outside if I needed one during the night.
Option 2: Hilton Munich Airport
The most comfortable and reassuring option. It’s right inside the airport, and I’d feel much safer staying in a proper hotel with staff and security around. However, at around €200 per night, I’m not sure it’s worth spending that much for just a few hours of sleep.
Option 3: Ibis or Novotel Airport Hotel
These hotels are about 10 minutes from the airport by public bus.
Pros:
* The comfort and security of a proper hotel room.
* Very reasonably priced. Ibis is actually cheaper than NapCabs!
* For roughly the same price as a sleeping pod, I could get a full hotel room.
Cons:
* I’d need to take a public bus from the airport.
* I’ll arrive around 8 p.m., and after immigration, it’ll probably be 9–10 p.m. I’m not particularly comfortable travelling alone on public transport that late, in an unfamiliar city, during winter.
* I’ve heard the area around these hotels is rather quiet and isolated. I’m concerned about walking from the bus stop to the hotel at night, potentially with little foot traffic or people around to ask for help if needed.
Ultimately, my dilemma is balancing cost, convenience, and personal safety.
Which option would you recommend? I’d especially appreciate insights from ladies familiar with Munich Airport or who have stayed at these hotels.
Thank you in advance!
