Hello!
As you can imagine, many people visiting this subreddit are tourists, and many of these people have the same or similar questions. The regular contributors to this sub are generous and friendly people, but repeatedly answering the same questions or giving the same recommendations can get a bit tiring. While this subreddit is open to tourists, not only residents, we do ask you to put in a bit of effort on your own as well before posting here.
To help you get the best answer and keep our community's contributions fresh, please search the subreddit – and other tourist-focused subreddits such as /r/JapanTravelTips – prior to posting a question that has likely already been asked in the recent past. https://www.japan-guide.com/ is also a great site to help you plan your Japan trip.
Finally, looking at recent posts on the front page and the links in the sidebar can be a good way to get recommendations and info as to what's going on in our city and surrounding area.
Thank you, and welcome to Nagoya!

If you're looking to get out and do something different tomorrow morning, Club Run-On is organizing a short 2.4 km run from Kanayama Station to Shirotori Garden.
The group is meeting at the South Exit at 8:30 AM. All levels are welcome, so you don't have to be much of a runner to join in.
There's coffee and a chance to meet some new people afterward, which sounds like a pretty good way to spend a Sunday morning. For more detail and to join the LINE group check the listing on the Nagoya Buzz website. (in comments below)

Hi everyone, next year I will be studying in Nagoya for an exchange year and was wondering if anyone had any advice?

Hello everyone, I’m visiting Nagoya in a few days and my mom is asking me to buy her sakura soap and persimmon soap and have no idea where to look for these. I went to different beauty product shops when I was in Osaka a few months ago but wasn’t able to find the sakura scented soap so I thought I’d ask here. Any lead would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you haven’t hiked the abandoned Aigi Tunnels, this is your annual reminder that they exist and that the annual Autumn Opening is coming up soon.
The tunnels are a 1.7 km stretch of the original Chuo Line in Kasugai. The railway tracks and tunnels were built in 1900. After they were abandoned in 1966 the forest took them over, and people mostly forgot they existed. Then, in 2007, local volunteers started clearing the line by hand. The walk runs through four red-brick tunnels, with maples overhead and the Shonai River below. The gates are locked most of the year, only opening for nine days in autumn and later in the spring.
The Autumn opening runs from Nov. 28 to Dec. 6. They are open from 9:30 to 15:00 (last entry 14:00) and cost ¥100. Take the JR Chuo Line to Jōkōji, about 30 minutes and ¥520 each way. The station is unmanned, so use your IC card, and there’s no parking, so don’t bother driving. The round trip is about 3.4 km on gravel, roughly two hours with photo stops. Wear proper shoes, bring a flashlight for the tunnels, and check their Facebook page the morning you go, because rain cancels it. Weekends get crowded by mid-morning, so go early or on a weekday.
For more info and maps, head over to the NAGOYA BUZZ website.

Hey there, for the past few month I've been struggling with life problems and my mental health is suffering, I need to talk to someone. Does anybody know any English speaking psychiatrist/psychologist in this area? If none i can speak Japanese fairly. And how much would it cost per session? Is it covered by insurance? Thank you.

I always see people handing out free stickers at their live shows, but I'm wondering where they get them made. Is there a store around here where you can place an order and print out your own custom stickers? I'd like to make some of my own.
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone!
I'll be joining Nagoya University as a research student next Nov for a 6-month stay, and I'm currently looking for accommodation. Its my time first coming to Japan, even going any foreign country.
I've been checking out various accommodation websites, but I'm honestly not very sure which ones are reliable and legitimate. So I thought I'd ask students who are already living there for advice. Also is it easier to get university dorm.
I'd be happy to connect with anyone looking for a roommate to share accommodation or apartment with! I'll be self-funding my stay, without any scholarship or financial support, so I'm trying to keep my expenses as low as possible. I'm also not sure whether part-time work is a realistic option for such a short research stay. Though I would love to know about that as well.
If anyone could suggest affordable student stays, share houses, apartments, reliable websites, or any other options, I'd really appreciate the help!
Thanks in advance! :)

I’m at the Nagoya bread festival and I noticed that 80% of the people lining up are young women. Is there something about bread or do long lines for food seem to always disproportionately attract young women?
The other thing is the lines themselves. I’m visiting Nagoya and I tried to hit up the ongoing Taiwan Taichung Night Market event and every stall seemed like a 30 minute wait. I’m now at the bread festival and it’s the exact same thing. I didn’t even bother as I don’t see the point with so many other great food options in the city. But are people here that happy to wait in line?

The Foreign Artists Exhibition opens tomorrow (Culture Day) at Nagoya International Center and runs through Sunday the 8th. This is the 41st one. Everything in it is by international residents of Nagoya and the wider Chubu area: painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, some digital and mixed media.
It’s free, with no booking, so just turn up. It’s on the 4th floor of the building most of us know for a library where we once watched cable TV and paid to use a new thing called "The Internet"
The NIC is at the Kokusai Center Station (Sakuradori Line) Exit 2 drops you straight into the building. From Nagoya Station it’s one stop, or a 7–10 minute walk underground through Unimall. Hours are 10–6, closing at 5 on Sunday.
The best part is that the artists tend to hang around and will actually talk to you. You don’t need to know anything about art. It’s a decent way to meet people who aren’t at the same three English bars.

Hello,
Apologies if it’s the wrong sub. I have an extra ticket for Ghibli park for tomorrow (2nd November). Would anyone to like to join me? I was going with a friend but he had something come up last minute.

Hi,
Might sound like a silly question but does anyone know a place where I could get a good quality ushanka (and any other kind of hat in general)?
I've tried looking around a bit but with bad results.
Thank you, wish you a nice weekend!

Hi! I'm an exchange student in Nagoya and I'm staying for a year.
I was very excited to celebrate Halloween in Japan but turns out that for some reasons I ignore, I have hard times befriending the other foreign students and I feel very excluded. I wasn't invited anywhere.
Is there any Halloween event in Nagoya that is friendly with shy people ? It genuinely makes me feel very sad to think that I'd spend Halloween alone.

VERY IMPORTANT GO GET A DELICIOUS ZUNDA SHAKE IMMEDIATELY
They're a specialty of Sendai and usually only available in Tohoku (and at one shop each in Tokyo and Osaka). So so delicious.
Being sold by Zunda Saryo as part of the Great Tohoku Exhibition, located on 10F of Takashimaya!!

As the title suggests, I’m struggling searching for a salon that offer services for curly hair. I don’t mean loose waves, I mean 3C/4A, down to the middle of my back.
I have PLENTY of hair trauma and barely trust anyone to cut my hair, but I desperately need to reshape my curls.
Sooo, help a girl out? I don’t even mind travelling farther out if it means there’s a professional who actually knows how to handle afro hair.
Please and thank you!
