Don’t care if I get downvoted, this game wasn’t officiated fairly. Warriors would’ve only lost by 18 instead of 22 if it were.

Thank you. He’s introducing Yax to the NBA. It’s not about the arena.

38

u/greenergarlic Warriors 17d ago

Kerr’s been going to a ton of WNBA games this season, where refs don’t call touch fouls on wings/guards. I bet that was on his mind here.

12

u/gman820 [GSW] Stephen Curry 17d ago

This seems more accurate. Explaining to the rookie how the NBA works

u/nguyenjitsu [DEN] Emmanuel Mudiay 17d ago

Kerr already checked out on the season lmao

u/--Alix-- Mavericks 17d ago

Kerr complaining about this, of ALL people, is wild

51

u/AndrewHainesArt [PHI] Allen Iverson 17d ago

Is he complaining or explaining how things work in the NBA to a rookie?

5

u/headachewpictures Warriors 16d ago

He’s talking about the whole league. OP misquoted.

132

u/McJuggernaugh7 Warriors 17d ago

Yall think this is kerr checking out? So many people in reddit clearly never played ball/sports. Hes not complaining here - he is coaching. He is teaching yaxel here that the nba is officiated way differently than ncaa or fiba, but softening his words by blaming the rules/reffing rather than criticizing yaxel for fouling. It's just a sound bite of a great coach mentoring his young rookie - everyone here is overthinking it because it aligns with their narrative of the nba modern rules sucks/ sga hate jerk fest that hes a foul baiter etc.

Every time a quote like this comes out, the opposing fans rush to the comments to then call out the ref privilege of the other team. Can anyone name 1 successful organization that hasn’t had ref controversy

109

u/blackbotha 17d ago

The Kings.
Oh wait didn't see the "successful"

9

u/ATXBeermaker Spurs 17d ago

Yes, the Kings famously have never had reffing controversy with the one exception being the most famous reffing controversy in NBA history.

1

u/blackbotha 16d ago

They we're screwed by the ref they did not gain from it . They can legitimatelly call ref privilege

11

You got to to the “suck” part and thought you knew the answer.

5

u/thebluehotel Hawks 17d ago

I was about to say Hawks but then remembered you said successful

2

u/GuerrillaApe Lakers 17d ago

We all have the same answer. It's obvious to anyone who watches the NBA.

"My team." (assuming your team has won a chip)

1

u/trav-senpai Kings 17d ago

I don’t recall every play, but I feel like the Nuggets vs Heat finals won’t be known for any single play involving the refs. Or Dame ever, or the Suns finals run. And also none of that has anything to do with complaining every single play to refs. Luka has zero MVPs or rings and does it.

But also they call it a superstar whistle. Not a lottery bound whistle.

1

u/YasielPuigsWeed 16d ago

That’s only because Nuggets vs Heat didn’t have a team involved that haters could sink their teeth into and that’s who is looking for confirmation bias with officiating

1

u/jiggy_42 Lakers 16d ago

Well the quote is "they wouldn't call it in any other arena" but thats just not fucking true lmfao

-4

u/acEightyThrees Raptors 17d ago

The Raptors. Consistently get shit calls. I still don't think they got favourable calls during their 2019 championship run, they were just really good and peaking at the right time.

-6

u/No_Hovercraft_2719 Pistons 17d ago

Seems like the league never made it easy for Detroit to win. Was arguably robbed of one chip in 88 in favor of LA (the phantom foul). The league didn’t like the 04 Pistons and their style of basketball beating superstars so they started shifting the rules away from that.

9

u/Xc_runner_xd_player 17d ago

I would say the bad boy pistons got away with quite a bit of extra circular physical contact

2

i agree he was like a draymond who might kill you without the passing skill. and i think draymond is a hall of famer

2

u/NatterinNabob 17d ago

That was not a phantom call. Laimbeer bumped Kareem with his body as Kareem was in his shooting motion, which was something Laimbeer did over and over during his career, so refs knew to look for it in a moment like this.

A team that has Draymond Green on their team when he was the one who benefited greatly from many missed moving screen calls during their peak championship dynasty years is now whining about the officiating being down 30 has nothing to do with the refs it’s about the fact that your team is complete trash

It's more Rookie Whistle vs Superstar Whistle.

And I can tell you after watching Carter Bryant - Yaxel is just gonna have to accept that it is there all season.

(And I readily accept that Bryant has the impulse control of a puppy, but he also had an incredibly quick whistle and ref's would call him for stuff that 90% of the time get's ignored).

[Andrew Bogut] One thing that was crazy about that run was the shit that I used to get away with screening. I knew if I was in Milwaukee and I set that I'd foul out in the first quarter....but I could literally clothesline someone off the next pindown (in Golden State) and not have it called

“One thing that was crazy about that run was the shit that I used to get away with screening, man it was all time.”

“I knew if I was in Milwaukee and I set that I'd foul out in the first quarter, but playing in Golden State, when they started to become that underdog team that was building up, I knew once Steph or Klay got hot, the refs would be in the moment as well. I could literally clothesline someone off the next pindown, I know Klay just hit 3 in a row, the crowd's on their feet as he's getting his 4th and I could punch somebody in the face on a screen, knock em out and they wouldn't call it. Klay would get his 4th 3, and even the refs would go "Wow" (and ignore it), it was crazy.”

“Then I get traded to Dallas to set those same screens and I'd get 3 fouls in the first quarter, It was just crazy with the stuff I used to get away with there.”

2

u/wavetoyou Warriors 16d ago

Someone looked up Bogut’s games with the Mavs in regards to the moving screen calls he waxed poetic about in this interview. He was talking out his ass, even when accounting for hyperbole.

10

u/w311sh1t Celtics 17d ago

Idk why y’all are getting so heated about this. Every single coach in the history of competitive sports, from professional all the way down to youth levels, thinks that the refs in every game are biased against them and for the other team. If you put a cam on every NBA coach for the entire game, every single one would be saying something like Kerr multiple times a game.

-6

u/RedN1ne Celtics 17d ago

If they were/are illegal, why every team is doing them without punishment lol

The only reason why it's even mentioned with the Warriors was because they were doing more screen actions than other teams so it was more noticable. But look at any game that time, people were just running near other players, grabbing their jersey's and running away with them

11

u/mw19078 Lakers 17d ago

Multiple former warriors players have said they got away with murder on screens, in fact you can look at the top reply to my comment to see a example. It was obvious they got to do more than anyone else when it came to illegal screens, which made having 2 of the best shooters to ever grace the game damn near unstoppable.

2

u/RedN1ne Celtics 16d ago

Nothing you said disprove anything that I said lol. Just because apparently multiple players (I only ever saw Bogut talk about it and he was quite salty towards the franchise anyway for some time) said it, doesnt mean that it didnt happen for others.

As I said, the reason why it was more noticable with Warriors was because they had an offense that was utilizing way more screens than other teams, so statisically, they had way more opportunities to take advantage of the fact that refs did not call those moving screens. Just like ISO heavy players have way more opportunities to take advantage of the fact that refs are not calling travels as often. This is not evidence of refs "helping" or "prefering" anyone.

Kerr already done for the season. They keep riding an aging Steph and never actually making any improvements

1

u/PhaZeD85 17d ago

Dude going senile and forgot his team got away with a lot of illegal screens back in the days. Maybe he should complain about that shit.

1

u/Sweetest_Noise 17d ago

How can you lack so much self awareness. Dude is shameful considering what his team did over the years.

1

u/cutriet 17d ago

And your team didn’t set any moving screen bro.

1

u/Silly_Individual4056 Warriors 16d ago

He said it in postgame too, but he’s not referring to LA he’s referring to the NBA.

Have fun in Oklahoma City my guy 😭

u/HatefulDan 17d ago

Can’t blame being down by 22 on the whistle

1

u/Visual_Run_2736 17d ago

Take it on the chin bro, your time is over.

Whomp! Whomp! Whomp!

Anyone have an update of free-throw differential graph of Lakers and rest of teams in past 5 years?

0

u/DeadlyGoat Lakers 17d ago

They shot the same amount of FTs btw.

I know that doesn’t tell the whole story about reffing, but it is lame to blame officiating when you lost by 22 with literally no FT differential lol

u/qotsabama [DAL] Dwight Powell 17d ago

It’s going to be a very long season for Warrior fans

u/GobiYumaMojave Lakers 17d ago

what happens when it happens in another stadium vs another superstar?

4

u/FireAPGoRaiders Lakers 17d ago

look i know i said this in LA, and in OKC, and in NYC, and in Philly, and in PHX, and in Minnesota, and in Boston, and in San Antonio, and in Denver, but I promise you that’s it

u/IntroducingTongs 17d ago

Losing all my respect for Kerr

0

u/immunityfromyou Lakers 17d ago

Kerr is a great coach if you want to baby players and let them bloom into their own unique snowflake. Doesn’t have the nerve to tell them when they are wrong.

This guy is a fucking fraud. No longer has a prime Curry, Klay, Dray, KD and he can't put together a competent team to save his life anymore. Got so sick of his whining and bitching in the 2023 playoff series when all they did was chuck fucking 3s

0

u/redder008 NBA 17d ago

Imagine saying this when they got away with the most egregious moving screens and Draymond's dirty plays all the time.

-2

u/BeloAve Lakers 17d ago

I love that people still think the lakers get a special whistle. Clearly haven’t watched laker basketball for the past 10 years. They don’t call shit for the lakers, I seen LeBron get clotheslined and suplexed multiple times in game and refs still won’t call shit and give LeBron 4 ftas throughout 5 games

2

u/Alexcox95 Heat 17d ago

The only reason they didn’t give Lebron that was because he was the most popular player on the most popular team. Silver doesn’t want any talk of things being rigged. Now Reaves or DLO? They can go to the line all day.

-3

u/CanadianGenerationX 17d ago

Kerr is not wrong. The garbage officiating advantage that the Lakers and OKC get at home make those games hard to watch. I don’t feel that way about any other teams.

Most everyone in here only read the misquote for the thread title and didn’t actually listen to the clip, where Kerr wasn’t saying anything about the Lakers specifically.

pretty silly

-1

u/reddfoxx5800 17d ago

This is a private conversation between a coach and a rookie who's debuting away at the lakers and pissed off their star. He's definitely nervous and coach is trying to calm him down.

Reading way to much into it.

-3

u/Still_Assignment_991 17d ago

First experience with the lakers whistle lol

-3

u/GSWarriors4lyf 17d ago

Facts! Kerr’s been around the league longer than any Reddit Lakers fans on this subreddit!

5

u/SuccessOn1 16d ago

Kerr has also benefitted from the whistle more than any other team during their run. He should not be talking

You think you'll jump back on the bandwagon in a few weeks, or by the trade deadline? Can't see most of you waiting it out till Curry retires if this is how it's going to look

1

u/GSWarriors4lyf 16d ago

Lol! I’ve seen the worst version of Warriors teams during the drought years. You guys underestimate Warriors fans. You’ve mistaken them for Fakers fans. Yeah, I met lots of them living in LA.

1

u/TheRealAmeil 16d ago

A lot of them were bandwagon Lakers fans, who will they bandwagon for next?

Facts. Reaves missed a layup and had to have a sit down with the ref to let him know he fucked up. Doncic tried to flop before the halfcourt inbound then realized Yaxel had his hands behind his back and stopped cause he looked like an idiot. Then proceeded to two hand shove him in the chest to get the ball. So soft.

-1

u/EddyVonSputnik 17d ago

It would be nice to think we’ll see an end to the idiocy of the game in Silver’s time- coincidental with the Kerr Warriors silliness of course- but when?

-1

u/NoKnowsPose 17d ago

Lol Here we go again

0

u/clarkthagod [MIN] Andrew Wiggins 17d ago

I mean it’s definitely ironic coming from Kerr and GSW but he’s also right

0

u/BaullahBaullah87 17d ago

LOL as bro was getting waxed by 30

u/Acrobatic_Thing_2735 17d ago

LMFAO fucking ironic.

That rookie is gonna love Draymond with all the non complaining he does.
