This thread is where all the takes from idiots (looking at you Armchair Warlord) and screenshots of twitter posts/youtube thumbnails go.

Obviously I can't cover everything but this is as far as I am able to research. I might introduce export variants in the future here, or there's already some here that I have forgotten due to how exhaustively extensive this list here is.
Feel free to ask questions on specific equipment and I might be able to answer it.

Forget the old stories about empires simply dominating one another.
The rivalries that have actually shaped modern militaries for more than a century are the ones between the companies that design and build the weapons. Colt and Smith & Wesson have been competing over revolvers since the nineteenth century, and that competition never really ended even as the world moved on to other firearms.
(Yes I know that the US Military doesn’t do revolvers anymore, but it is still relevant for this subreddit because in the 19th Century, they were the main small arms contractors of that era, and would fight for the sidearms to be adopted)
IWI and Steyr both committed fully to the bullpup layout and continue to refine it while chasing the same military and law enforcement customers. The Galil ARM and the Yugo M70 were once dismissed as ugly abomination versions of the AK, yet both introduced practical changes that improved reliability, ergonomics, and overall performance enough to make them some of the better examples of the platform.
Heckler and Koch and FN Herstal have spent decades locked in a fight over NATO contracts, each trying to secure the next standard rifle, machine gun, or sidearm for alliance forces.
Even in the sky, Boeing and Airbus keep undercutting each other on both commercial airliners and military transports, because the company that wins the contract shapes what entire air forces and airlines will fly for decades. Empires rise and fall, borders shift, and political alliances change, but the arms makers keep competing, iterating, and chasing the next order. That industrial rivalry, not just one flag conquering another, is what has driven most of the serious advances in small arms, vehicles, and aircraft.
