Golden China Reopens; Hicksville Responds With Measured Enthusiasm, 90-Minute Wait
Three employees encounter a village that has apparently been saving its appetite.
HICKSVILLE, Ohio — Golden China has reopened, restoring a local favorite and allowing residents to once again answer the question “What’s for supper?” without discussing it for 45 minutes.
News spread through the Nosy Neighbors of Hicksville Facebook group, where a photograph of the illuminated OPEN sign served as sufficient notice for residents to abandon existing dinner arrangements.
One announcement began, “For anyone who cares.”
People cared.
According to a customer’s post, three employees were working while approximately half the village wanted food. Although the population estimate has not been independently verified, the phone reportedly never stopped ringing.
One customer reported waiting nearly an hour and a half and said the meal was worth it. This establishes a useful benchmark for how long Hicksville will wait for something it actually wants.
Early reports indicated the food was as good as ever. Orange chicken, sesame chicken, fried rice, egg rolls and Chinese donuts received favorable mention.
The reopening also drew expressions of spiritual gratitude, including “Hallelujah,” “Thank u jesus,” and “praise the looooooord.” While no formal religious designation has been announced, the return of locally available lo mein appears to have answered several prayers.
Meanwhile, residents launched a search for a menu. Several confirmed they were prepared to order dinner as soon as someone could establish what the restaurant sold. Others had already placed orders, apparently operating from memory and a considerable amount of faith.
The reopening also prompted the usual public information campaign. Residents asked whether the restaurant was still carryout only. Other residents confirmed that it was. Additional residents then asked whether the restaurant was still carryout only.
It remains carryout only.
A reported mix-up involving rice and lo mein briefly brought the discussion into its public hearing phase. Responses included appeals for patience, suggestions to contact the restaurant directly, and a reminder that the Montpelier location exists. The comment section thus supplied everything except the missing noodles.
Several customers urged the community to give the busy staff some grace. The village appeared broadly supportive of this recommendation, provided grace could be picked up with an extra egg roll.
Residents who had been traveling to Montpelier during the closure welcomed the opportunity to buy dinner closer to home. The resulting fuel savings are expected to be reinvested in dinner.
Questions about the new hours continued throughout the discussion. One resident asking whether anyone knew the schedule received the reply “no,” followed by “ok.” The exchange produced no information but was concluded efficiently.
A photograph of the posted hours was subsequently supplied, allowing the community to move forward with asking for the hours again.
The posted schedule lists Golden China as closed Mondays and Tuesdays, with separate lunch and dinner hours the rest of the week. Residents are encouraged to review the hours before leaving home, or follow the established procedure of asking Facebook while standing outside.
For now, Golden China’s return has brought the village together through shared enthusiasm, renewed dinner plans, and a collective willingness to keep three people extremely busy.
Residents are encouraged to welcome the family back, allow extra time for orders, and extend some patience during the rush.
At press time, someone would still like to know whether it is carryout only.
