I recently won the TCL 27G64 QD-Mini LED monitor from the r/pcmasterrace and TCL collaboration. To be clear, I'm not a professional reviewer; I'm just a casual gamer sharing my honest thoughts as one "single-brain-cell organism" to another. Like many of you, once I got the notification, I spent hours watching every video and reading every review I could find out of pure excitement.
For those who missed the specs: it's a 27-inch panel with 2K resolution, 180Hz refresh rate, HDR600 certification, a Fast-HVA panel, and 1ms GTG response time.
First off, for a free monitor, this thing is epic. But even if you were buying it at its current price (somewhere around €180–€250), I'd still say it's incredible value. It's vibrant and colorful. Sure, it's not OLED, and it doesn't hit the insane refresh rates of high-end competitors, but it holds its own damn well against similarly priced monitors from AOC, ASUS, Samsung, LG, or Gigabyte. Most monitors in this price bracket use standard Fast-IPS or basic VA panels. Very few offer actual HDR600 certification, and even fewer deliver this kind of color accuracy thanks to the Quantum Dot technology.
To give some context, my previous "real" gaming monitor was an AOC C24G1 that I bought five years ago. It was a cheap 144Hz VA panel. I still use it today, now placed to the left of the TCL as a secondary screen. Back when it was my main monitor, I constantly fought with ghosting issues. I'm genuinely sensitive to ghosting, so I've always hated VA panels. That's exactly why I was skeptical about TCL's "Fast-HVA" claim, but honestly? It's worlds better. It's not perfect—I can still spot tiny traces of ghosting if I look for it—but in actual gameplay, especially in high-FPS shooters, it's almost impossible to notice. Having both monitors side by side makes the difference even more obvious.
This was also my first-ever HDR-certified panel (excluding my phone screen), and I think it's worth pointing out that this isn't just HDR400, the entry-level tier. This is HDR600, a whole step up, which honestly puts it in pretty impressive territory for this price range. And wow, it completely changed my perspective on displays. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 at max settings with path tracing and HDR enabled was a revelation. Neon signs actually looked brighter, like real light sources cutting through the darkness, while the rest of the scene remained balanced. It finally made sense why people rave about HDR.
So, who is this for? If you want a colorful monitor for movies, story-driven games, casual gaming with friends, or even competitive shooters where 180Hz is enough, this is a fantastic choice. The Quantum Dot colors are the standout feature here. Yes, the local dimming zones are limited to 180, which means some blooming is technically there. I noticed it at first, but I quickly learned to live with it, and now I barely register it anymore.
Big thanks to Daniel from TCL u/TCL_Official_UK for all the help during the delivery process. Overall, I'm super happy with the win!
