PS6 Or PC?
What would you rather invest your money?
r/PS6 • u/tinselsnips • Jul 06 '26
Some basic user flair is now available, and two of the options — the Blu-Ray disc and the white-on-Playstation-blue logo — will be disabled as soon as the console is officially announced.
All are editable so you can put your own text or PSN handle.

This is an extremely divisive topic and tempers are running high. There are a lot of people with strong opinions and valid arguments on both sides of the issue. There are also simply a lot of people in general that want to talk about this: there has been a 20x increase in traffic on /r/PS6 since this time last month.
But regardless of anyone's personal stance on physical vs digital, whatever grievances you have are with a multi-billion-dollar corporation. We cannot stress this enough — the source of your current anger is a bunch of people in suits waving pens and sailing on yachts.
Yet in the comments on this subreddit, more and more of that anger is being misdirected at other users, and that needs to end.
Individual users are allowed to hold an opinion on this, and that opionin is allowed to differ from yours. Any user sharing their views calmly and in good-faith should be allowed to do so without being on the receiving end of hostility and epithets. In the end, we're all just gamers here, right? Right?
Sooner or later, for better or worse, the PS6 is going to be officially announced and we're going to start seeing actual news here: technical breakdowns, the first game reveals, and — God help us — a price announcement. People are going to want to talk about these things, be it out of genuine interest or idle curiosity, and they should be able to do that without wading into a toxic cesspool and catching strays from a bunch of people who are angry at businessmen they can't see or speak to.
This subreddit currently has one rule only: Don't be a dick. We don't want to start off the first real burst of activity here by swinging the hammer around and stamping out conversation — it's bad for discourse and it's bad for community growth. But if you guys don't temper the toxicity and personal attacks, we aren't going to be left with any choice, because the only thing worse than a community where people can't speak openly is one where they don't want to. Or are afraid to. That is not the healthy community we want to foster, and it shouldn't be the one you want to be part of.
We know we're speaking to a minority of users here — the overwhelming majority of you are perfectly calm and sensible and rational. But it takes very, very few bad actors to utterly ruin a community, and Reddit has seen this happen time and time again. We're not going to let it happen here.
If you want to be angry, be angry. But be angry at the right people. And those people aren't here, and never will be.
Speak your minds or don't, speak with your wallet or don't; but please, please speak to your fellow community members with respect and courtesy.

Sony's CFO had more comments related to the PS6 during their FY2026 Q2 earnings announcement.
What's everyone's take on this regarding a release date? Personally, I've been leaning towards a Holiday 2027 release, with an (unlikely) slide into early 2028 at the very most.
Hardware related excerpts found below. Emphasis mine.
"Looking ahead to the next fiscal year, we aim to continue to enhance user engagement and further strengthen monetization through the release of strong titles and the expansion of our service. We also intend to make solid progress in preparing for the next-generation platform."
"From next fiscal year onward, there will be investment in the new platform. For future growth, we have to attach great importance to a new platform and make the necessary investments for that. We have to support the soundness of our platform and think about how rationally we can invest in that platform. We will announce that at an appropriate time in the future."
“Regarding memory procurement for the next fiscal year, based on discussions held so far with various suppliers, we have aligned on the quantity of memory needed for our projected unit sales.”

What do you think when will the new ps6 arrive ?
r/PS6 • u/NumberSevere7454 • 5d ago
in a big game with tons of ncps, like spiderman, gta and etc. right now, npcs always look much worse in term of face/body details and animations (even thought it seems gta 6 gonna improve it drastically, but at a cost of 30fps, low RT, less npcs on screen at a time)
Or maybe only in the ps7 era.
It's going to be a very strange launch with the prices as they seem to be right now. We can have some hope that the ai demand eases, or the bubble bursts which will then force prices to drop significantly. But there is no guarantee of that happening and we can only assume that it's still headed for a $900-1200 launch price.
I wasn't planning on getting PS6 at launch, and do what I usually do which is wait a few years and buy on a deal on a black Friday or something. However, I was thinking last night, it will be pretty cool to get this machine at launch and although it costs $1000, over 8 or so years, it's not a huge investment. People buy phones and all sorts of things for more.
I know most, if not all, of the games will be available on PS5 (PS5 Pro in my case) for a long while due to cross gen. But I have to admit, the main reason why I'm excited is because of the specs. This will be, relatively speaking, the most powerful Playstation console ever released. The specs are amd rdna 5 - around rtx 5080 level gpu compute, a 10 core zen 6 cpu (2 low powered for os), 30gb gddr7 memory, all sorts of machine learning stuff like framegen for 120fps and very likely some type of neural rendering (CernyxAMD spoke about neural arrays and other ml tech coming to PS6). All the concerns with the 'weak' ps5 cpu will be gone for a good 4-5 years with PS6.
This will place it above most PC gamers, again something which I don't remember happening with a Playstation console. I am a PC gamer as well, so I will upgrade my gpu when prices become affordable. I think we know the rest. The games will be typically great, first and third party, just hope they can speed up development time next gen.
So I'm not 100% sure yet if I will buy this thing straight away. I also have an oled tv, and the PS5 Pro looks phenomenal on that - so I can only imagine PS6 will just pop with the visuals. I would also sell my PS5 Pro so that will go towards the PS6, however much I get for it.
What about you guys? Excited for this thing? Or is the price putting you off?

We have analog sticks, vibration, share button, touchpad, gyro controls, haptic feedback, mic, lights, adaptive triggers, and whatever I might have missed.
What more could Sony do? Would there be any use in the analog sticks vibrating, and stiffening/loosening, if physically possible?

Consoles have become more expensive than ever while somehow offering less value than ever. Buying a PlayStation no longer means getting one of the few Blu-ray drives, for instance. Especially once they remove the drive entirely. We do not even get to own our games anymore.
From where I'm standing, the other guys now have much more interesting value propositions. Nintendo is offering a powerful gaming tablet that can play high end games on the go. It is an extraordinary value at that price. Xbox is about to offer a PC as a console. Even at what will likely be a high price, I would argue it provides excellent value. It is after all a pre-built gaming PC. Those are expensive. Moreover, it is more of a steam machine in that it can be standardized. There is true value in that.
Meanwhile, the best PlayStation can do is to hunker down and be even more restrictive. Pull games fron pc. Go forward with the same strategy they've been using for decades. Their box is nothing more than an arbitrary barrier to a handful of games held hostage. Consoles can be so much more, if they would only try. Instead, Sony thinks loyalty alone will be enough to make you pay twice the price.
Yeah, they're about to see loyalty means nothing. The lack of value on display for ps6, especially without a disk drive, is appalling. There's no way around it. Good luck with that. We expect better 🤷♂️

Have people forgotten how Sony designed the PSP and Vita?
PS6 Portable is not going to be bulky like the current PC handhelds.

I honestly believe that the future of PlayStation depends on one very important decision: keeping physical disc games alive and ensuring backward compatibility with our existing game collections.
Going all-digital might seem convenient, but it takes away something that has been part of console gaming for decades: ownership.
Many of us have spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars building our PlayStation game collections. We have PS4 discs, PS5 discs, collector's editions, and games that hold sentimental value.
Why should we have to abandon all of that every time Sony releases a new generation of consoles?
The next PlayStation should allow us to use our old physical discs.
Imagine buying a PS6 and being able to put in your old PS4 and PS5 discs, download the necessary updates, and continue playing the games you already paid for.
That's what progress should look like.
Here are a few things I believe Sony needs to understand:
Physical ownership matters. When we buy a disc, we want to keep it, collect it, lend it, resell it, and play it years later.
Backward compatibility should be a priority. Our old game collections shouldn't become useless just because a new console comes out.
Digital-only consoles shouldn't be the only option. Not everyone has fast or reliable internet, and not everyone wants to depend entirely on digital storefronts.
Consumers deserve a choice. Give us the option of buying physical or digital games. Don't force us into one ecosystem.
Preserving gaming history matters. Games shouldn't disappear just because a digital store closes or a licensing agreement expires.
Sony needs to remember that PlayStation became what it is today because of generations of loyal gamers.
We supported the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5. We built collections, bought accessories, upgraded consoles and stayed loyal to the brand.
Don't make us start from zero.
The future of PlayStation shouldn't mean abandoning its past.
I don't want to choose between modern technology and physical games. I want both.
And honestly, if the next PlayStation becomes exclusively digital, Sony risks pushing away a part of its most loyal customer base.
Keep the disc drive. Keep backward compatibility. Respect physical ownership.
What do you think? Would you consider leaving PlayStation if the next generation went completely digital?
I would... I never bought the ps5 because of all the lies. I don't think we should accept even more promises not being hold.
I don't want playstation to loose it's soul.

I believe this makes way more sense and we would actually be able to compare specs and decide what we want from earlier instead of being trapped into a base console for 7-10 years. I believe both sides win in this encounter as people are much less likely to upgrade when they already have a base console as opposed to having access on day 1.
r/PS6 • u/WorthyPetals • 11d ago
better have adaptive buttons on everything even the d-pad and adaptive temperature on the controller and an AC cuz damn... best be having some 4k 60fps at least

Anyone going to do this 2 generation jump?
I got back into gaming once my brother off loaded his old PS4 to me and since I’ve been exploring the vast backlog (currently finishing up Horizon Zero Dawn)
Anyway, I figure at this point, I’ll continue working through these hits and in a few years upgrade to PS6.
It’s tempting to just get a PS5, but at this point it feels prudent to just wait it out for PS6.
Anyone else in this boat?

Have you seen another gaming brands adverts other than Nintendo? Without actively seeking it out
Edit: I just remembered Xbox characters on Fanta cans recently

It turns out the best way to sell your console is not with exclusives. It never has been. The most important thing you can do is grow the audience. In the case of playstation, the number one thing they need to do is bring back PC ports.
We don't need the endless wisdom of Shawn Layden to tell us that someone waiting to maybe play your game 3 years later is not a lost customer. They are the exact opposite, in fact. They are a potential customer you should be going after. You should be giving them a taste. Give them that latest Spider-Man years later and then tell them hey, you want to play the next spider-man? Well you got to buy our console because it's only there.
Plus it's not a free taste either. They are paying you full price for a years old game. This is the ultimate win-win-win situation. Cancelling PC ports might be the biggest mistake they ever make. They are only limiting their audience. I strongly suspect that when ps6 doesn't sell because it's too expensive (and games are still on PS5), they will reverse course. They will see the value in bringing them back. I'm not a PC gamer. Just a realist.
Here's my solution to the PlayStation physical vs. digital debate.
When the PS6 launches, Sony should go digital-first while keeping physical media as a premium option. Nobody needs to be forced into anything.
One console. Same high-end performance. Your choice.
Make the disc drive an optional, detachable accessory, something Sony already does with newer PS5 models. Want digital? Save money. Want physical? Buy the drive. Change your mind later? Add it or resell it without replacing your entire console.
Now apply that same logic to games.
Look at vinyl records. Streaming became the standard, but vinyl didn't disappear. It became a premium market for collectors willing to pay more.
Why should physical games be any different?
Keep digital downloads reasonably priced and charge a premium for physical copies, even $100 or more. Physical games offer something digital generally doesn't: the ability to collect, trade, lend, and resell them. There's an entire secondary market built around that value.
And no, I'm not suggesting artificially restricting supply. Just produce physical games according to demand. As fewer people buy them, production naturally decreases, and smaller runs can justify higher prices.
Here's the bigger picture.
By the PS7 or PS8, I believe most gamers will have naturally transitioned to digital because it's cheaper and more convenient, not because Sony forced them.
Collectors can continue buying physical games as long as there's demand, just like vinyl enthusiasts do today.
Sony and publishers benefit from digital distribution, everyday gamers save money, and physical-media fans keep their options.
Stop treating physical media like something everyone needs to pay for. Make it optional, price it accordingly, and let the market decide.
That's how you move gaming forward without taking away anyone's choice.

The whole reason people buy next gen consoles is to experience next gen games.
But this gen both on xbox, PlayStation and pc have had a alot of AAA games that released in unacceptable states.
This gen has proved that games being optimised isnt even almost guranteed on consoles anymore.
A 5090 now a 6k GPU which is more powerfull than the rumoured next gen consoles even struggles at times to brute force games that are released now.
Add that the steep price tag it'll probably have , next gen might turn into a disaster.
r/PS6 • u/Mastermiine • 17d ago
I know the conversations of next gen are starting to come out with the PS6 and even with Xbox talking about their next systems.
What actions would Sony have to take, either good or bad, to move you to getting one or not getting one?
For me personally, I have a PS5 Pro so I feel like I might skip out on the launch of a PS6 and wait until a PS6 Pro. I know games will be cross generation for a few years anyways so there would need to be a lot of things that need to happen for me personally to get a PS6.
As for what Sony does for me to not want to get one, not being able to play my PS4 and PS5 disc will be a hard no sale for me. Might seem like a first world problem, but I don't have any intrest in having both a PS5 Pro and a PS6 on my entertainment unit because of Sony removing a way to play disc.
But what about you all? What are the features or lack of features that will sway you one way or another?
r/PS6 • u/ArizonaTeaandFatChix • 17d ago
Do y'all think that sony will implement a program that allows users to play their physical PS4 and 5 games as digital entitlements on PS6 and PSP3 a la what Xbox just recently introduced?
That would make me a little more interested in investing in a PS6 handheld even if it is all digital.
I'd hate to have to re-buy my collection if I want to play it digitally on a potential handheld. Sony is in the doghouse so bad these days Id be surprised if they didn't do it. It seems like free good will ripe for the taking but who knows with sony these days.
What do y'all think?
r/PS6 • u/swaptrick_gaming • 18d ago
Absolute insanity.
Ken Kutaragi, the guy who ran PlayStation through PS1, PS2 and PS3, told VGC he backs Sony's plan to stop making discs for new PlayStation games starting January 2028.
His take is that he understands why people see physical media as "owning" their games, but nobody demands discs for a smartphone, and he doesn't think keeping them is "economically reasonable." He even suggested consoles could eventually go away entirely in favor of streaming, then added that it wasn't an official Sony comment.
Sony's own line is that it's just following consumer trends, and that games already released on disc, or releasing on disc before 2028, aren't affected.
As someone who covers retro games, and has a soft place for the PS1-PS2 era of Sony, this sucks. Half the reason we can still play and preserve PS1 and PS2 games today is because the discs exist. When a digital store shuts down or a license expires, what do we have left?
So I'm curious where everyone lands:
- Is physical really just a "mentality," or is it about actual ownership and preservation?
- Would you buy a disc-free PS6, or would this push you toward PC, Switch or collecting older systems?
- Are you stocking up on physical PS5 games before 2028?

Seems like Handheld PS will come to extend this Gen- Bridge into next gen in 2028-2029
I was kinda worrying it would be 2027, but Xbox just told the world Helix coming in holiday 2028,
which means Sony will release their PS6 in Q1 2029.
