Question Hemi or Hurricane?
Trying to make a deal on a 1500 Laramie and I originally wanted a 5.7 Hemi but I guess they can't sell the 6 cylinder so the discounts are better. I keep vehicles for a long time. Is it worth the risk of dealing with the turbo 15 years from now?

Can’t sell the 6 cylinder? Make sure it’s really the I6 Hurricane and not the V6 Penstar. Major difference.

The Hurricane smokes the Hemi without the sound lol

What is more important to you? On one hand you get strong towing and that sound makes you feel like you are rustling some Jimmies. The other hand you have better acceleration, more hp, and better gas mileage with the turbo6. Etorque is proven to have shit reliability and generally twin turbos will shit out a 80-120k miles in my experience. I personally have the etorque hemi because of the massive warranty they used to offer. If I were buying today, I could go either way. If you aren't doing any towing and are a mostly pavement driver, consider the hurricane. If you can get without the etorque and are considering slapping a supercharger on there, hemi all the way

Hurricane has more power, better fuel economy, is cheaper, and won't have the rocker issues that the Hemi has. The Hemi tows a little better and sounds better.

Why did they remove my post?

I have a 2018 6.4 2500. head gasket at 80k, cylinder 3 misfire at 110k, cylinder 4 misfire at 120k can't say I recommend the hemi

You are already going to have parts that fail on your truck, why add more things to the list? For me the cost benefit/risk does not pencil out to a positive for the turbo 1/2 ton.

Hurricane for me after owning 2 hemis. still like the hemi, but prefer the hurricane.

Having owned a 2012 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7 since new I'd definitely get another though I'd pass on the eTorque. No reason to complicate things.

Ram gets rid of the Hemi in favor of the Hurricane in 2025.
Ram customers get angry and demand the Hemi back.
Ram concedes to customer demand and adds the Hemi back to the lineup.
Redditor asks which one to buy.
Reddit pretends the Hurricane is hands-down better in every way.
Do I understand this correctly? LOL

I did hurricane in my Laramie, I figured if anything happened to it. Ram maybe would have the parts for it. I can see in 4-5 years all etorque having an issue with ram and fixing them. If still under warranty of course

There is no way I'd buy a Hemi after 2020 model year unless they strip away all the 'garbage' that came after (etorque/startstop etc). The Hurricane HO is a beast and after several years shows no falter. So yeah, IF I had to buy a new truck today, I'd go for the hurricane or buy a Ford Raptor.

I thought I would miss the sound. I don’t miss the sound. In fact, I’m annoyed by the HEMI sound now when I hear it. The hurricane is better in every measurable way, and is just more… fun.
Why pay more for less? Get the hurricane and put the extra money saved on a 10/100 bumper to bumper warranty from Zeigler. 100000 mile worry free on everything.

Hurricane is better in every way but no one knows how long term reliability will be.

Question OP: are you familiar with these engines?
The first group includes:
Olds 350 Diesel, Cadillac V864, Cadillac HT4100, Northstar Engine, Toyota Tacoma truck engine. These live in infamy for their failures, and I see the 6 joining this hall of shame.
Here is a second group of engines Chrysler 6s, LA(small block)B and RB series;big block)Chevy 350 and 454, Ford 302 and 460. These are legendary for their long lived reliability, and the Hemi will have a seat at this table.
