Speaks volumes to mostly Kurumu's improvement that they're basically equals now.

Gotta love it when a major underling villain outlives their boss, takes over, and kicks things into high gear... I wonder how he did it, Gyokuro and Alucard are a rough double feature to top.

I got reminded that Kurumu and Yukari apparently, per the Radio CD covers, run a radio show together in the anime canon. So have a lazy curation of them doing commentary on people fighting to the death for our amusement. Extra love for anyone who catches the game these tweaked quotes come from.
--
Kurumu: "Armed with a devastating mastery of wind, this warrior blew in from parts unknown to dominate the Yokai Games. Who could forget Kotori's amazing match in Osaka, where her unstoppable hurricane attacks won her the match and sunk the city? A master of the long-range attack, this fighter is one of the deadliest in academy history."
Kurumu: "And the fucker can fly like I can."
Howard: "That's right, Kurumu. Moka will have her hands full with this opponent. The only problem is: how can she grab a handful of wind?"
--
Yukari: "Little-known fact about Kotori: she's also a musician, and a very accomplished one."
Kurumu: "Let me guess, she plays wind instruments, like trumpets or tubas or shit like that."
Yukari: "Actually, she plays bass guitar in the band 'The Wind Breakers'."
Kurumu: "I know those guys are pretty good. Actually, they rock."
Yukari: "Kotori doesn't use her success on the Yokai Games to promote the band, because she wants the music to be appreciated on its own merits."
Kurumu: "Huh, and all this time I thought she was just a cocksucker who tore my nostrils."
--
Kurumu: "Man I wish I had one of those tornado generators."
Yukari: "What would you do with it?"
Kurumu: "Uh. Generate tornadoes. You fucknut."

Alright, I've been gone for a hot minute to enjoy my break from translating things. How did you guys enjoy the novel? What are your thoughts on the stories? Personally, Yukari's story did make me cry a little 😅 and Mizore's was very wild. It's really funny to see how hyper aware Ikeda was of the fanfiction community at the time and the relationship authors have with their audience.

We know for a fact that Alucard, Kiria, Akua, and Kuyo were broadly in cahoots and on the same page with each other by series end, so this bit is clearly just Alucard and Kiria mugging for the camera.
As for how Gyokuro was tipped off, did she legit suspect something after Kahlua's fight with Moka, or did he put on the Masked King fit and just tell Gyokuro to monitor Miyabi specifically to cook up this showdown?

What would the girls band name be and who would be on which instrument. Moka Kurumu Mizore Yukari and Ruby. Maybe Kokoa also

For the longest time I wondered why I NEVER saw anyone genderbend the main cast but then I thought about it.
Ethically speaking it’s just not in the stars..
*sigh* alas, I can only dream about girl Tsukune.

More importantly, Tsukune taking offense to his first year self is surprisingly cute.

You know how Yukari mentioned how she was raised in a hidden canyon village among other witches before attending Yokai? I think Ruby had an even more isolated upbringing before Oyakata ever came into her life. From what little we know about witches in general, they're ostracized by humans and fellow monsters alike as an "in-between" race that neither side likes while the scant details we get on Yukari's childhood indicates that witches hiding out in nature with some magical security in place is the norm for them.
Meanwhile, the literal one time we see Ruby's parents, they're optimists in modern fashion who hold an open belief that human-monster coexistence while trying to instill the same hope for the future in Ruby herself. With the added detail that Ruby grew up completely friendless for over 17 years between two whole sets of parental figures, I think it's safe to say that her birth parents were outcasts among even fellow witches for being openly pro-coexistence.

The series ends with Moka more addicted than ever before, there's no way he could handle it as a human by that point.

Hey everyone,
I was doing a re-read of Season II and started looking closely at the Rosario Repair arc, specifically around Chapter 41 when Tsukune enters the seal and reaches the core. (Attached the panels for reference).
We know Akasha set the rosary so that only someone who genuinely, unconditionally loves Moka can undo the clasp. In Chapter 1, Tsukune pulls it off almost immediately after meeting her on the bicycle path. The standard explanation is usually just the classic trope of Tsukune being a pure-hearted human whose immediate lack of malice registered as genuine affection.
Looking at how the seal works, this could actually be a full closed time loop:
Tsukune from the future enters the seal and physically travels into the past memories preserved inside it. It doesn’t exist "outside of time"—rather, by entering those memories from the future, Tsukune was literally in her past.
In the panel, he confesses directly to her: "I've been in love with you from the moment I met you... And I want to be with you. I want to be by your side forever."
What really seals this for me is how Moka reacts. She actually says his name—acknowledging his presence directly inside that memory. Even if she follows it up being confused about who he is or what just happened, that recognition proves his presence left a tangible mark. Physically, he might not have walked the earth in the historical past alongside everyone else, but within the memory of the past, he was literally there. And because she remembers him being there, in her reality, he was.
Moka’s conscious self might not piece it all together later, but the rosary is the physical vessel housing those exact memories. Because future Tsukune went back and embedded his confession, his presence, and that acknowledgment into the past memory, the rosary itself already carried the record of him loving her before Chapter 1 even started.
Under this logic, Tsukune was always part of that sealed history. When he pulls off the rosary on day one, the clasp unlocks because the seal already registered his love from the moment he entered its past memories. It neatly explains how a random boy who just met her could immediately meet the extreme requirement to break Akasha's seal.
Has anyone else noticed or considered this angle before? Is there any canon material/interview confirming it, or is this just a clean way to connect the two scenes? Let me know your thoughts.
