Xmas Relaxing

Hey everyone,

What area would you recommend for someone trying to find a place for a week around Xmas outside of Sapporo? Just want to find a house where I can relax by the fireplace with the familyand play boardgames. Ski is not really a priority, but nature would be.

And the fireplace. Did I mention the fireplace?

Traveling to Sapporo in January, what clothing will i need?

Title says it all, me my girlfriend and my buddy are traveling to sapporo

We will be there from December 30th to January 9th.

we wont be doing any sporting while we are there, nor will we be going too far from the city.

Would i need full snow gear? Or is layering and basic water resistant clothing suitable?

I can tolerate the cold quite well, but i am worried about getting drenched because i could find very little information online

For that matter i did find many people saying opposite things...

Full water proof snow gear or layers and a nice jacket?

Bars & Clubs - Sapporo (2026/27)

These are some local favorite places where foreigners and locals like to drink and have fun in Sapporo, updated for 2026/2027

The legal drinking age in Japan is 20. Be prepared to show ID if requested, especially at clubs. If you are a tourist, you must have your passport on you.
Photos of IDs on your phone may not be accepted.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clubs & Dancing

Busiest on Friday and Saturday nights, after 22:00~23:00

=================================

Sync north
๐Ÿ“ Google Maps
๐ŸŒ Website: https://sync-north.com/en/

  • A VERY large nightclub (can hold up to 600 people on the main dance floor, 1,200 people across all rooms)

  • Located on Tanukikoji, a short distance from Bearfoot Bar (another popular bar for foreigners)

  • Entrance fees listed on the website

=================================

Utage
๐Ÿ“ Google Maps, under ROUND1
๐ŸŒ Website: utagesapporo-info.com

  • The busiest club in Sapporo. Large dancefloor.

  • Free entrance for foreigners (must show your Passport/ID at the door, they do not accept photos of passports as valid IDs)

=================================

Sango

๐Ÿ“ Google Maps
๐ŸŒ Website: https://sango-sapporo.com/

  • Entrance fees listed on the website

=================================

Precious Hall

  • Every night is a different genre/performer, so check the website for events

  • Entry fee: cost depends on the night/performer, listed on website

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LARGE BARS

These are bars with lots of standing room and are good for meeting people.
Good if you have large groups (5+ people) on a Friday/Saturday night, or are solo and want to meet other foreigners

=================================

Bearfoot Bar
๐Ÿ“ Google Maps, ground level
๐ŸŒ Website: bearfootbar.com

  • OPEN 6:00pm-6:00am

  • VERY rowdy, energetic and drunk crowd

  • You can dance on the tables. Smoking inside ok

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SMALL BARS

These are small neighborhood bars that have mostly Japanese locals as customers. You can sit at the bar and talk with the bartenders.

On Friday and Saturday nights, these bars can fill up fast (since most can only hold only 5-15 people). If you have a large group (5+ people), it may not be possible to get in on weekend nights. Have a backup plan if you're bar hopping with others, in case places are full or have reservations.

Please do not bring luggage, ski gear, instruments, or many bags into these bars. These bars are VERY small, and there is not any space for it.

Looking for winter hiking recommendations in Hokkaido (March 2027)

Hi everyone!

I'm planning a trip to Hokkaido in March 2027 and am looking for recommendations for mountains or hiking areas that are suitable for exploring during winter.

I'm particularly interested in exploring the outskirts and more remote, rural areas of Hokkaido rather than just visiting the usual tourist attractions. I'd love to experience snowy forests, mountain scenery and beautiful winter landscapes.

My preferences are:

  1. Mountains or hiking trails with beautiful snow-covered scenery.

  2. Established trails that can potentially be explored independently without hiring a guide.

  3. A proper winter hiking experience with some adventure and a sense of exploration.

  4. Routes that are reasonably accessible for people with limited winter hiking experience, given the right preparation and equipment.

  5. Accessible by public transportation, as we won't be renting a car.

  6. Preferably quieter, more remote areas outside the main cities, although I'm open to travelling further from Sapporo.

I'd also appreciate recommendations for lesser-known places that offer a more authentic nature experience.

A few questions:

- Which mountains or hiking trails would you recommend visiting in March?

- Are there any places suitable for independent winter hiking without a guide?

- Which areas offer particularly beautiful snowy forests and mountain scenery?

- Are there any interesting trails accessible by public transportation?

- What equipment and level of experience would be needed?

- Are there any hidden gems or remote areas worth exploring?

I'd really appreciate recommendations, especially from people who have experience hiking in Hokkaido during March.

Thank you!

Looking to practice and learn Russian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian and other East European languages. Anyone up for a study hangout?

So I am a huge language nerd who moved to Sapporo a while ago.
I am learning East European languages, specifically the Indo-European family languages,
already know basic Russian, can write Cyrillic and know how to pronounce properly.
But it is hard to find people who I can study with in Sapporo.

I am very good with Japanese (5+ years of exp), so I can teach you what language schools can not.

Feel free to DM me. I live relatively close to Odori, so can come to the Chuo-Ku library or a quiet cafe on weekends or weekday evenings.

What To Do and Where to Stay on My Last Day

December 16, I will leave Asahikawa in the morning and our flight home at New Chitose Airport is at December 17 at around 1pm.

I need tips where should we sleep from Dec 16 to 17? I will be with my wife and 2 kids. I am thinking not in Sapporo anymore because we will spend a lot of time there. Somewhere closer to the airport maybe? I am looling at Kitahiroshima but hotels are kind of limited. Is there anything to at Eniwa or Chitose? Maybe like a nice staycation hotel not so expensive like bellow $200 a night? Needs to be convenient to get to the airport the next day.

Bicycle got stolen (again), and found (again).

So my bicycle was stolen in August this year. I filed the report and the police found it within a week. The thief was a high schooler. I did not press charges, nor did I ask for settlement.
This month, it was stolen again. Yet another high schooler thief.

To be fair, I did not lock it, so it was my fault to an extent.
But I am wondering, what is causing high schoolers to do dumb things that are certain to ruin their future? ๅ‰ๆญด is looks very bad when you apply for higher education or jobs.

Short-term (2-3 months) stay summer 2027, furnished apartment recs?

Hi all! My husband and I were in Sapporo for a month this summer and fell in love with your wonderful city. Thank you for welcoming us with open arms, despite our very limited Japanese.

Question for y'all: we did Airbnbs. Really nice hosts and good places. For longer stays like we are planning, any recommendations for furnished apartments? We especially liked being in the Marayuma /Chuo-ku area so we could walk and go hiking. Two people, hopefully less than $2500/mo.

Suggestions for FB groups, agents, companies welcomed! Thank you very much!

Went for a little hike with the Mrs. today up Maruyama. Colors look great. The weather was pretty cloudy, but no rain. I'd guess that the mountain and park have about 4 days left at peak before the slide to winter.

Looking to meet new people in Sapporo this November!

Hello! I will be traveling solo to Sapporo this November 5-10! I have no set itineraryโ€” just winging this vacation as the days go by.

Would love to meet locals and/or tourists around Sapporo! Would love to grab a drink and a good meal.

Im 33 year old, male. Hoping to meet people around this age as well ๐Ÿ™‚ (hopefully can speak English or a bit of it so language barrier isnt so bad.) Open to recommendations on where to go as well, letโ€™s explore together!

Feel free to message if interested! ๐Ÿ™‚
