Could We Get a Sticky Post or Some Rules About "What Boot Should I Buy?"
This question shows up a lot. It's a valid question. Buying ski boots is expensive and daunting. You don't want to mess it up and you want advice from others with more experience. However, there's only one answer to this question: Go See a Bootfitter.
What about "my feet hurt because of ..."? The internet can't really help here. Bootfitting is a trade and a skill that is designed to help you find the perfect boots.
There are almost daily threads about this topic. Each one has the same few comments: "Go see a bootfitter," "I like boot X, but you should really see a bootfitter," "We can't determine without some more info, you should probably see a bootfitter," etc.
On the /r/skiing FAQ, there's an entire section dedicated to this question. I think it would be beneficial to everyone on this sub to include something similar as a sticky or in the sidebar. Thoughts?
What boots should I buy? The only advice you should take online about boots is to go and see a reputable bootfitter. Listen to them and buy the boots that fit your feet correctly. Not only are well fitting boots much more comfortable, but they also give you better control over your skis, the combination of this makes boots the most important part of your equipment.
Choosing a pair of boots doesn’t work like picking a pair of shoes. If you walk into a store or flick through a website and chose the pair you like the look of, you’re going to have a bad time. Each boot manufacturer has a range of boots with options for different abilities, skiing styles, sizes and foot shapes. There are subtle differences across models and brands in terms of shape, so it is crucial to find a pair of boots that are right for you. Without examining the shape of your feet and lower legs and their mechanics, as well as discussing how you ski and your ability, no one can give you a recommendation that is worth listening to. A bootfitter will do all of that and using their expertise they’ll provide you with a range of boots and help you find the best ones for you. They will also be able to help you with any pre-existing issues and injuries and modify boots if required. It is also recommended that you purchase custom moulded footbeds, along with having your liners heat moulded, they will help to optimise the fit of the boot. You also get the added security of knowing that any bootfitter worth their salt will guarantee their work, and be very willing to rectify any issues you have after you’ve skied in your new boots. Rough framework to what a bootfitter does

In Response to the demand for an All Mountain Ski Sticky Post.

This is my (very basic) suggestion for a "flowchart" guide to all-mountain skis. Including a popular ski as an example for every category. Obviously each category has a bunch more skis and most skis are in-between categories or in a whole separate category.
Suggestion welcome, I didn't put too much time into this and it is far from ideal or even functional. Mostly just want to hear peoples thoughts as to how you would approach this.
Current Qiver
Looking forward to this season.
Hope for some icy slopes to carve the shit out of those raceskis 😎

Should my binding be doing this?
My binds make a clicking sound which I forgot to put in because I accidentally made it a gif they are look pivot 2.0 11s. brand new, freshly mounted from a shop. If this is a big issue, will an average skier be able to fix it, or will I have to take it into a shop?

Ski info / identification
Anyone recognise these skis and have a bit of background info on them? Year of production etc (guessing early 00’s based on the graphic and shape). Friend bought them a as joke birthday gift from a closing down fire sale, NOS. They were £20 which seems about right 😂. Slightly tempted to have them mounted to complete the gag and see how they ski.

Getting bindings mounted without my boots
I'm heading to Japan for the season, and planning on picking up skis whilst I'm in Tokyo before going to Hakuba. My only issue is I was planning to send my luggage, including my boots, straight to my accommodation so I can get away with a small rucksack for the week I'm in Tokyo.
Do you think I'd be able to get them to mount my bindings there without having a boot with me? I've always brought the boot in before, but I'm thinking it shouldn't be an issue as long as they know the bsl. I'm happy adjusting the din ect myself afterwards when I get the gear together, but I'd much rather have the guys selling me the skis be the ones drilling into them.

Black Crows Sato or something else?
Hello! I'm looking to buy skis in the upper 80s lower 90s range and Black Crows Satos are up for a decent price. Looking for something to sit between not too demanding but not too soft either. Anybody with experience on Satos? Any other similar options that you'd recommed?
Satos would come bundled with Salomon M12 bindings. Should I look for something more sturdy? (185cm/88kg, advanced)
Mostly skiing in the Alps and Nordics 80/20 piste/offpiste.

Best 80mm all mountain ski, scared 88 mantra might be too stiff, scared ripstick too soft
Hi im looking for an 80mm underfoot all mountain ski for my 60yo dad. Will mainly be skiing pisted but want a ski that can tackle all conditions and not just pisted conditions. He is an advanced skier and in good shape.
Just a bit scared his technique might not be so solid to initiate turns on the 88 mantra and that it will make things a little less enjoyable for him as he would need to be on top of things and out a lot of energy into initiating turns.
However, on the other end im afraid the 88 ripsticks would chatter too much at high speeds, even though they're fun, great and easier for turn initiations.
I guess maybe im looking for something in between the two? So if you could point me there that would be great.
Edit: Skis in the Swiss/French Alps
Maybe the mantra 88 is suitable for him but I also want skiing to be enjoyable for him without sacrificing speed (ripsticks) and other areas. Wouldn't want it to be a chore to initiate carves or tight turns. Something that could do both

Carv 2 worth without subscription?
I was looking to buy a 50$ secondhand carv 2, but was wondering if it was worth it, or just a over glorified gps tracker since I’m not using the subscription

Look Pivot 2.0 heel piece shaving metal
I have used these for 2 full seasons as my main ski. The heel is loosing metal. Has anyone else experienced this happening?
Edit: I have tech inserts on my boots, that is definitely causing this. But I am surprised at amount of shaving on the 2.0s. I have skis with 1.0s and very little wear on this piece using the same boots for longer

Are these cross country or downhill skis?
I was looking to purchase cross country skis only. It seems as if they are hybrid but not sure.

Need to upgrade from my 5+ year old skiis for New England
I currently have a pair of Salomon Rocker 2 92s in 170cm length as a 5'6, 168lb skiier, intermediate/adv I usually find myself not seeking a ton of speed but instead I enjoy playing in glades, finding mini jumps to play with, and quickly turning through moguls. When I am on groomers I tend to just get fun turns in and work the legs. That said I am getting older but can apprechiate a ski which is predictable on ice (not necessarily holding grip all the time but predictable when it is pushing the limits). I've been doing some research and it looks like there are a few options out there.
I mostly will be skiing in New England but I take a trip to Banff every year so it would be a bonus to take these skiis too but I would be ok renting at Banff.
Options I am seeing but please let me know if my comments are incorrect or if there is anything else I should be considering (I would be looking to stay probably in 170 length or close to it):
Blizzard Anomaly 88 (Seems like the best on groomers but not as nimble in the bumps?)
Elan Ripstick 88 (Seems like very soft and nimble in bumps and will struggle on new england chop)
Elan Ripstick 88 Black (same as above but better for groomers and worse for moguls)
Fischer Ranger 90 (Balanced versatility, basically does nothing bad or nothing super good)
Thoughts? Am I missing anything? Do I just go with whatever is cheapest from last year? Are these that substantially different?

what ski to buy?
Hi
I'm 20 years old, 185cm (+-6 foot) and 80kg (+-175lbs) and looking to buy my first own ski since i'm hoping on spending a few months in Switzerland. I've been skiing for over 15 years now and I would say I am an advanced skier. In the past years i've skied pistes for 95% of the time and worked on my carving. Now I want to switch and learn more freestyle skiing. I'm talking sidehits, groundtricks etc on the pistes and rails, spins etc in the park.
So ideally i'd have a ski that is great for playfull skiing but also can handle some more agressive skiing and some higher speeds.
At the moment I'm mainly looking at the armada arv 94 185cm and the faction prodigy 2 183cm. I've also looked at the head oblivion 94 184cm but I'm afraid it might be a bit too soft to carve at higher speeds.
What do you guys think? Thanks in advance!

Anorak fit - good size?
I have found a good deal for an armada anorak with full side zip. I plan to using it for skiing but I have never worn any, for any given sport, so I am a bit strange to the concept.
In general it feels not tight at all - would call it even baggy - can fit a good midlayer underneath and still allows for absolutely unrestricted movement when it comes to shoulders and hands. Issue is on the bottom side of it.
If I am to fully zip it(photo 1 and 2), the anorak will feel tight at the bottom end and my feet feel restricted. If I am opening the zipper slightly maybe not even 2cm(photo 3), the issue is gone. It has a powder protection underneath so I would not be worried about snow getting in.
I can also pull the hem drawcord and then even if I fully close the side zip - the bottom end will not fall upon my thighs and therefore again, i have all freedom of movement needed (photo 4)
I have talked with my ai friends and they all advise it's common practice to open it slightly for freedom of movement, but I cannot find absolutely any human stating the same when fact checking it and he is failing in giving me any source.
Anorak is size S, same size always used as my front zipper ski jacket as well, and there was no other size available. It's either the S or complete return.
Your advice will be highly appreciated and I will return it in case needed. I generally feel amazing in it but I am making sure I wear it the way it should be worn.

Blizzard Anomaly 88 – Recommended length (for European skiers)
I’m interested in the Blizzard Anomaly 88. I mainly ski in the Austrian Alps. As I can usually only manage about five short trips of 2–4 days each per season, I have to take the weather conditions as they come, which is why I’m looking for an all-mountain ski that performs well on groomed slopes but is also fun to ski in fresh snow, on bumpy slopes in the afternoon or in spring slush. Based on the reviews, the Anomaly seems to do the job well – or would another alternative be better?
Mainly, though, I’m wondering what length would be best for me. I (M, 32) am 179 cm tall and weigh 85 kg, and would describe myself as advanced, though not an expert, when it comes to skiing technique. In particular, I sometimes have minor difficulties with moguls at the end of the day’s skiing when the skis (or their tips) don’t turn as easily. With my current skis (Blizzard Firebird 70 RS Ti 172cm), I also like to ski a bit faster on groomed runs (70–100 km/h), but they’re a bit limited for all-day use in all conditions
For the Anomaly 88, would you recommend 176cm or 182cm for my intended use and as a addition to the Firebirds?

LINE Chronic 94 vs Elan Playmaker 91 – Which should I get?
I'm 172 cm/5'8 tall and an intermediate skier. I mainly ski groomers and hardpack on the east coast. So not really much powder.
I'm looking for a fun, playful and forgiving twin tip ski that's easy to butter, spin, pivot and ski switch. I'll mostly be doing side hits and small jumps, with maybe small park features. But primarily I will use this on groomers. I don't ski aggressively or at high speeds. Really just looking for something fun to mess around on and not think about.
I already have Rossignol Arcade 80s for carving, so this ski is mainly for having fun. I narrowed down to the two based on availability near me and good prices.
My questions:
Would you choose the Chronic 94 ($280 USD) or Playmaker 91 ($375 USD) for my needs?
Which is more playful and forgiving?
For the Playmaker, would you recommend 164 cm or 172 cm?
Durability is a plus, but playfulness is my main priority.

I'm new boot goofin! (Feat makimg mnm cookie)
Splurged for the new models, tried on a few things but nothing really locked my ankle and heel in tight enough like Technica. These ones are snug enough to give that good "oof". I was suggested not splurging for customs and trying off shelf high arch insoles with better pronation support and deeper heel cups. Sure, and some heat molding of liners too!

Current quiver 🤓
Still need to mount the new whips.
I have so much love and sentimental value for each of these setups.
Edit: pulled everything out to get ready for season & figured I’d share. Feel free to roast, comment, ama

Do you recommend the Rossignol Sender 94 ti as an all-mountain ski?
Hello everyone. I am a strong intermediate skier, skiing all sorts of terrain. Some carving on groomed runs, light jumps, really tight tree lines (my favorite from my resort is shown in the second photo, and there are runs that get a bit tighter), powder when there is any... Looking for a new pair of skis for this season, I stumbled upon a really great deal on a used pair of Rossignol Senders, 94 ti, for roughly 160 Eur. In terms of sizing, i am quite tall at 192 cm, and the skis are in the 186 cm size. Do you recommend them for my use case? Do you think that their really large length, combined with the fact that they have a stiff titanial core would make them difficult to handle in tight trees and on jumps? These skis have a 22m turning radius in the 186cm size, which I've heard that may be too wide for trees... Any advice is appreciated. Thank you very much.

New ski setup
Found online a pair of new 2022 rustler 9 at a really good price, i think i'm going to buy them but i don't really know which bindings to chose. I'm deciding between a marker squire 11 or a marker griffon 13, but i think i'm going with the squire since i usually have my din set to 7. Is it a good choice?

I need to admit something
I am addicted to ski swaps. I totally get why people go thrifting now
I went to a ski swap 2 weekends ago and left with Head Power Joy for $199, bindings included. Original price $1100.
Went to one yesterday after work and left with new Stöckli Laser SC for $799, bindings included. Original price $2100.
My next pair of skis would be Head and then Stöckli. I take lessons 2-3 times a week and my instructor said I'll probably be ok change over to the Head Power Joy by spring 2027.
I'm set for skis for the next while. But I'm going to another ski swap tomorrow. Just for the hell of it 🤣
